I remember a time before they were the rabble they have degenerated into. When they were a proud line of philosopher-kings, who ruled with wisdom as well as might. A longtime rival of mine was of this line. He was the mightiest warrior I ever came to blows with, and it has only ever been by the power of my sorcery that I have managed to subdue him. Yet he was also cunning. Behind a facade of brutish bestiality lay a mind far sharper than any blade. He leveraged his magnetic personality and indomitable will into a complex web of alliances and dependencies that made him a most vexing foe. And a most dear friend. Though we often despised one another, there is no one I would rather have at my side when my enemies come knocking. Such is the way of the world sometimes.
Brujah comes from "Bruja" in spanish that means indeed "Witch". But you also see that in the "Lasombra" which in Spanish is "la sombra" meaning "The shadow" but as if it was writen "Theshadow". Also Toreador comes from "Toro", meaning "bull", thus "Torero" in spanish "bullfighter" as a profesion, but "Toreador" means in spanish someone that skips the bull, anyone (bullfighter by professions or not) that stands and successfully tames the bull.
Makes sense when you consider most modern clan names were coined by the Inquisition, and adopted by Kindred themselves later on. Of course the Spanish Inquisition would use Spanish names!
Brujah is clearly in part named after the word brouhaha (meaning uproar or commotion) and the word bruxa (a Portuguese vampire like creature). I have no source for this, but neither do the people who claim it based on the spanish word for witch. I've seen the witch meaning floating around the community for a long time, but I have never seen a source. It has always been an odd urban myth in the community that never made sense.
i recognize the guy in the thumbnail. that's Mattias Nilsson from the game mercenaries! in all fairness. he probably WOULD be a brujah. albeit a surprisingly well spoken one.
So I've been watching your vids and it's been really cool to have someone explain the lore in character. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but the part where you explain the history of the Brujah utopia as a "den of degeneracy where mortals where killed on a whim" only to then call-out your own clan for being power mongers was very cool 😎

In LA/Hollywood the old martial artists in the old martial arts circles would use eachother as stunt men in the movies or consultants. I never had the chance to meet their predecessors, but I did have the pleasure of meeting a Brujah who had broken the mold of the 'edgy teen' stereotype most modern Brujah find themselves shoved into. Nines Rodriguez felt like a blending of the old and new, and lived up to the reputation I had heard about. Though, he constantly denied being such a Kindred. Nines definitely had a rebellious attitude, but unlike his younger cousins, he didn't simply throw his weight around by firebombing buildings and starting riots in the streets. He made his voice heard whenever he saw what he perceived to be an injustice and moved to correct it, even if it got him in trouble. Instead of pushing for total chaos, he often advised them on actually finding a reason to be angry, rather than for the sake of just being so. His second Damsel, on the other hand, was a modern Brujah through and through. But hey, at least both sides are being represented. - Cassius Sullivan, Tzimisce Autarkis
Brujah is best sentence is "a rebel without a cause". Better way to look they have a cause in their heart and mind but reality is different. A feather is has more weight in most causes of the Brujah.
Wait the Gangrel were the first Anarchs? I thought that was the Lasombra or do did you mean that the clan culture is anarchic and not the Anarch faction? Cause yeah the Gangrel would technically be the og Anarchs since the Brujah started out as The Learned Clan but the Gangrel have always been an anarchic clan from the beginning.
@@theashspawn question has you job lean up I know you sayed you usely do 2 video week but you had to slow down because of work did that change or not also what clan is next?
More complex. Originally there were unwelcome vampires to the kindred society and vampires who left it because of the creation of Camarilla. Originally the first clan who left on their own and started the first anarch revolt was the Brujah. Lasombra can't be counted as they were not welcome in first place and just took advantage to higher the numbers of their ideas. First dialberist in the revolt was Brujah too, starting the idea of drying the elders, later on taken from the new created sabbat. And in modern nights Gangrel were the first to leave Camarilla because Anarchs were considered kind of Camarilla, but not exactly, allies in a way. So gangrels left camarilla and didn't make anarchs of themselves. But when Brujah realized Camarilla are responsible for the second inquisition, one of them frenzied and killed one of the creators of Camarilla, making themselves, the anarchs and everyone out of Camarilla enemy of the organization. You may call this as the start of second anarch revolt, with Brujah in front again, Gangrels just already agree with Brujah and ending up on the same side of the coin.
While I find your videos very informative, in the affected accent and purported knowledge, you have, in several videos, used the wrong word that sounds similar to the correct word (malapropism). For example in this video, you say “antipathy” when the correct word would be “antithesis”. From the context, you are opposing “change” and “tradition”as opposites (antithesis) while you use “antipathy” which means aversion. While similar, antipathy does not convey the contrast you are speaking about, and since neither tradition nor change would be capable of feeling antipathy, the word just doesn’t fit. I do enjoy your videos and even the style, but when you use the wrong word (as you have in a few clan videos) it breaks immersion and undermines the character you are trying to portray. I would just be more careful when using more complex words and double-check the meaning to avoid these malapropisms. Also “vistage” is not a word. The word is “visage” (no T).
I will be honest with you I thought antipathy meant "having an aversion to something" as in the two concepts do not mix. Not "feeling an aversion to something" as in a subjective emotion. Using antithesis would have been better in this context I will try to remember such in the future, thank you. As for Visage (and the vast majority of the mistakes I make in these videos) it’s just a mispronunciation on my end. It’s something I have always struggled with and have improved with as this series has progressed.
@@theashspawn I understand that. We all get fumble-tongued at times. And I do hope you (and it seems you have) take this as the honest, good-intentioned constructive criticism it was intended to be. Honestly, there are so many VtM videos out there that I can’t even watch through to the end regardless of the usefulness of their content. Your style and approach to these videos as the reflections of a very old Ventrue are absolutely enthralling and entertaining as well as informative. So I hope my feedback did nothing to discourage you or your fantastic creativity. I find your videos to be some of the best VtM commentary content on UA-cam and I want you to know how much they are appreciated. As an author, unintentional malapropisms are like fingernails on a chalkboard for me, which is the only reason I mentioned it. They just break my immersion in what is otherwise rivetingly entertaining and informative content.
@chrisdurbin3349 I pronounce the word the same way you do the spanish word of which their name is devised "Bruja" with the J sounding more like a H. Which is the same way most official things have since Bloodlines. Although the word used in game is completely made up so there is no real correct pronunciation (they have even changed with editions and time)
