I enjoyed seeing your listing process, Ryan! I like to list on my phone also. I’ll get all the pictures done, then list later on while watching TV 😊

I also add words at the end of the listing title like: Parts or Repair, Parts Only, Damaged, Distressed, Read Notes, or if I'm short on characters, sometimes just - Read. Don't know if it helps, but we all know some buyers never read the Item Description details, especially when buying on a smart phone.

You have a nice process going on, especially for re-filling your boxes/bins. Decades ago, I struggled with having too many partially filled bins consuming shelf space. I would start with empties next to my work area and give each bin a unique SKU number and once filled, would fill another and so on. But refilling the bins as items sold was something more of a challenge, often because I sell a big variety of items and have a need to keep the categories somewhat separate in the bins. Don't want a used boat part to go into the bin with a clean book or a white stuffed animal. I've also always had multiple buildings, so my Inventory had to accommodate that as well.
It's also true that if more then 1 person is working at the business, any inventory system has to be easy to understand. The more people using it, the more straight forward it needs to be. When I was 40, I kept it all in my head. Now I'm 65, so my head already has enough data stored, so I use a better inventory system and designed it to allow for growth, change and the widest variety of items I could possibly sell.
So I finally created a 4 digit SKU, using sequences like LG AA or LH BB. The first 2 tell me which building or level (Lake House, Lake Garage, Lake Garage Loft, etc). The 3rd spot tells me the item type and the 4th is the sequential bin number in that item type. For instance, in pole barn LG we store bins with tools, commercial repair parts, all types of media, clothing like sports jerseys, small kitchen appliances, etc, they are just arranged on different shelves and grouped by the 3rd letter. All the media is in the LG A area, where you will find LG AA, LG AB, LG AC and so on.
Softgoods (clothes, coats, boots, jerseys, etc) are LG C, the small tools, hardware and commercial parts are LG D, etc. Then to deal with the way my wife likes to list (one random item at a time), I created the LG B category, which is any random clean item that she wants to fill a bin with. Her bins get interesting, but it allowed me to include her in the overall inventory system. When she fills up the LG B bin in the house, I carry it out and bring her in one that needs to be refilled again.
In my office, I keep one each of the most often used box and bin categories. As it is re-filled, it goes out to the pole barn and another partially filled bin takes it's place, until it is re-filled. Some categories, that include oversize or items we don't bring in the house are not represented in my office. Those items go from the photo area straight into a bin or onto the oversize shelf and I just make the last photo for that item a shot of the number on the bin, so I have it when I finish the listing working at my desk.
Our system generally works for us, which is why I say any system that saves time and works is a win. 😉

Having a system that works for YOU is the key.

You mentioned pre-sorting, I do it all the time because I buy most of my incoming lots as auction lots, so I get a real mix of odds and ends from those auction houses that don’t curate their lots. As I pre-sort I watch for ways to lot up the low end items to push it out. Grab any 6 random lots and there will be natural groups left, once the key items are pulled to sell individually. For instance, a group of 20 vintage cigarette lighters will have a few Zippos, which often command decent money. Then all the rest can become one or two lots, or even a “parts or repair lot”. Do you do this with books, such as those on neurology?

I used to do that but at the moment I have so much inventory I'm not with books like that. I do have a couple of boxes of vintage sci-fi to lot up one of these days

@@GalaxyCDSRocks It's always a balance as to how long you want to keep the odds and sods, while waiting for enough simiilar items to make up a logical lot off books or any other items. It's always easier to go to a book sale (or any other type of item sale0 and know from the start that you can pick and choose a group, knowing they will make a bundle listing.
These days, most of the estate auctions in our area don't curate and are done on-line, so you are bidding on whatever they grouped up, in whatever manner they did the grouping.
Sometimes I even have to bid on and try to buy 2 separate lots, because I can see the missing book from one set, over on a shelf in another room. Sometimes I get the first, but not the second, so it's a risk.

AI descriptions are not only full of marketing “gobbledygook”, the AI description (like the eBay reference library), is full of all sorts of descriptive words that would have to be validated anyway, since eBay takes ZERO responsibility for the AI data, leaving you on the hook for any INAD complaint as a result of including the AI provided info.
