Filling In A Blank Tube Map

- Printed myself out a large version of the tube map - with all 270 stations removed. How long will it take me - and is it possible? - for me to write in all the missing station names.
Online versions where you can try this:
Name All London Tube Stations: www.sporcle.com...

I love that he says "obviously" to so many stations, as if everybody knows them
I know obviously

Jay: why is north London better than south london

This is the video which features that quote.
Yep
@@sallynorton7262 Jays weeee in the video like prime Superman
The obvious strategy is to sing the every tube station song and fill them in as you go, then you won't miss any! You're welcome :)

No, like this: ua-cam.com/video/8jPyg2pK11M/v-deo.html
@@Cy-rg6fw Filmed by Geoff himself so.....
Jay could sing while Geoff pointed out the stations on a big wall map... I'd watch that.
Then there's me, who's never been on the Tube, never even been to the UK, couldn't place a single station but can still name them all thanks to Jay Foreman
The way the announcement says "Willesden Green" is one of my favorite things about traveling on the Jubilee line.
Jennifer Garibay I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks this!
Y tho
My favourite is Canons Park
So do i
There's a whole row of stations on the MBTA Green Line in Boston that seem like they were specifically named to be funny when said over the PA system in a Boston accent: Lechmere, Science Park, North Station, Haymarket, Government Center, and Park Street. When I lived in the area, it used to brighten my day anytime I got to hear a harassed-sounding T driver announce "Gummint Cenna" on one of the older trains where the driver still had to do the announcements live. :)
Surely Mornington Crescent should have been named last.
I was thinking that too. I guess that applies no matter what rule variation is used.
Why?
Tony Hancock that’s a good question I wish I knew
Listen to I'm Sorry I haven't a clue on Radio 4. They play a game called Mornington Crescent.
No because he used the Cockfosters switchback rule, which allows him to name Mornington Cresent without ending the round in order to pick up bonus points.
I can barely even remember the Waterloo & City Line. Of course, I'm exaggerating; it's obviously Waterloo and... London Bridge?
Waterloo and City line is Waterloo and Bank.
you don’t say..
After they changed the name of City station to Bank, you would have thought they would have renamed the line (and the City branch of the Northern Line).
Jack Durrant
And bank
no the two waterloo and city line stations are aldgate and aldgate east
You missed the East end of the Central Line mistake on your quick scan. Debden and Theydon Bois should switch places. Though admittedly, I wouldn't even be able to get close to 50 stations so you did better than I ever would!
Extremely impressive Geoff! 266 out of 270 is definitely something to be proud of. Something I'm going to try and do in the next few weeks is to travel at least one stop on each tube line in a day (maybe within a time limit). Should be easy.
Good going with the tube map though, very well done.
Cheers,
Matt

Next start from scratch. Include zones, all other TfL services such as Overground(excluding Battersea Park), TfL Rail/Elizabeth line, DLR etc, like the official Tube map.
I love when he wrote bond street station code (bs) and he said “not for bullsh*t” 2:08
Its awesome and impressive that you know 270 stations and remember their locations on the map.
You should do an advanced version next, with London Overground, TfL Rail, DLR and Tramlink included! :P
Moleman978 And National Rail stations within the Travel Card Zones.
And eventually Crossrail.
...and you must color in all the zones by hand as well.
@@joermnyc Also step free access, toilets in each station and number of stairs should be on the map😂😂😂
@@dianahoward9089 GOSH. Oh, and also that ALL stations (even if they have no steps (example Battersea Power Station (Station))) are equiv to a 15 story building. WHERES MY 15 STORIES
And I felt very proud when I remembered all the terminus stations of the tube.....
Upminster, Upminster Bridge, Hornchurch, Elm Park, Dagenham East, Dagenham Heathway, Becontree, Upney, Barking, East Ham, Upton Park, Plaistow, West Ham, Bromley-by-Bow.....................just to name a few of the many stations I've used and been through. I used to live close to Elm Park station in the 80s
Impressive, no way I could do that. I think I’d be able to do 90% of zone 1 and the central line from central London eastbound since it’s the one I use most often but all the other lines there is no way. His love of the tube is epic
it is elm park‚ Dagenham east and Dagenham heathway I'd know my local stations : )
I honestly was in disbelief when he got the Dagenhams and Elm Park the wrong way round, I heartbroken when he got stuck on my own station (Hornchurch) :/
Amazing job, well done! And I noticed the very stylish pillows on the sofa too. ;)
The east end of the District Line is the part I know the best! I grew up that way, and my family still live there, close to Elm Park station.
Wow! You are amazing to be able to remember all this. I will definitely print up this PDF and practice myself. Thanks for this amazing video!
Missed Sudbury Hill as well. Pretty impressive though, I couldn't even remember the parts I should know, only section I could name all of was Rayners to Baker St.
Rayners Lane. Not Rayners.
@@hanstheexplorer It's also Street not St. Sometimes people shorten what they are saying.
YES! stockwell station was one of the top 10 stations to be named
Pretty impressive! Though I think Oval should be between Stockwell and Kennington
Love the selection of OS Maps on your shelf.
Hey Geoff, I'd just like to ask about Kings Cross and the 3-Letter code. In this video you stated it to be KXX, now, the national rail station uses KGX, so is this a different code for the LU station (in which case, that's rather confusing!) Anyways, lovely video, like normal from you, looking forward to seeing some more!
My guess is that the mainline station at King's Cross is KGX and St Pancras is STP but the underground station King's Cross St Pancras is KXX.
It's on page 22 of content.tfl.gov.uk/trackernet-data-services-guide-beta.pdf
Thanks for that, I'm happy that I got it right!
Thanks all of you :) Nice to learn that the Underground do have their own codes as well, wouldn't have known otherwise.
Trackernet 3-letter codes are made up haphazardly by the team there. There are several sets of codes on most lines. The Jubilee and Central Lines' signalling codes are actually logical, most other sets are not.
i live on the eastern end of the district line (between dagenham east and elm park) its funny how u got them mixed up (the dagenhams and elm park) lol im not suprised u got confused as they are all bunched up together on the tube map
Elijah Pisani and the Dagenhams are next to each other 😂😂. For years I didn’t even know Hornchurch was on the district line 😂😂
I am slightly attracted to Geoff whilst watching this video
what about doing the same for the Overground / national rail in greater London??
Although this test has nothing to do with streets/roads, as such, perhaps using it for familiarisation, would be a good starting point for those who want to do The Knowledge.
Also as the area of The Knowledge in only a 6 mile radius from Charing Cross, then the number of stations in that area falls well short of the 270 total, which makes 'Filling in a blank Tube Map' a lot easier!
Colindale and Burnt Oak switched around too :P
You lived at Ealing Common Geoff? So did I! :0)
Colindale and Burnt Oak the wrong way round was another one, but this is still impressive, despite a few mistakes.
I could do pretty much the whole of the District and Victoria lines, but the rest of it would be bits and pieces.
I think the tube song by jay foreman would help me *charing cross kings cross st Pancras Brent Cross Hatton Cross Osterley Balham bourorgh tooting Hampstead Luton leaton leatonstone Stanmore etc
Hi Geoff. I am the person who met you at the [ Museum Depot] I just love your vids. [ videos] There just epic. See you soon. Regards. Daniel
Well done! also would struggle with the East end of the district! Will try those quizzes once I'm on an actual computer.
you did brilliantly well done Jeff!
so here's a new challenge, take a blank piece of paper, then draw the tube map as you fill in the stations.
as I don't live in London I'll give it a miss thanks for the great work
A truly excellent effort Geoff! If you had to challenge yourself to a drink in a pub outside every station, which line would you choose first?
Nice game. It could be a nice addition to the station master app. During boring commuting time people will check their underground knowledge with iPhone. It may have multiple choices and a score to beat. I don't think is difficult.
I will do it for zones 1 and 2 in paper since I don't really visit anything outside them.
great vid Geoff, you are my favourite youtuber please do another tube challenge and post it on UA-cam soon
+Geofftech Ok thanks mate
Bruh a kid just did this game with all underground, overground and elizabeth line stations, nearly completing all of them, in under 90 minutes.
Id be ok on most of the stations as far as central london using both District and Central and the "old" circle line but after that I think Id be lost.
Hey Geoff, that first Sporcle quiz you've linked is mine! I wondered where the surge in plays came from yesterday...
not a notiication as such, but Sporcle keeps track of your quiz plays each day, so you can see when a quiz has a big spike in plays. You may well have played a few of my other quizzes as well then...
you missed North Wembley! :(
Can you do one where you only do the Jubillee line as I want to try and beat your time for that line because it is the line I took the most when I lived in london
camjkerman
Very impressive Geoff.
Holland Park and Shepards Bush?
3:53 I'm sure you now say "Latimere" just to tease me, Geoff! :-)
I think you missed Warwick Avenue on the Bakerloo Line and also got Kilburn Park and Maida Vale the wrong way around too.
You got Kingsbury and Queensbury the wrong way round and missed West Hampstead
I should try this with the Dutch train stations.
Got a challenge for you @geofftech! Can you complete a blank tube map which ALSO includes all closed/abandoned stations as well??
Is Geofftech a member of the London Transport Museum Friends? Also Heathrow Terminal 1 is being rebuild at the moment, so he could have put it in with T2 & T3.
Now do overground , Dlr and tram
I think that you did very well Geoff.
i could fill in atleast a quarter on a blank tram/bus map in amsterdam of the 'Gvb' transport company all train stations and all metro stations with the exception of a portion of the fasttram/tram in amstelveen :P
Great video. Geoff you say East Ham at 6:16 on the video, but I guess you didn't write it in !
Is Brixton still your local tube station? My closest tube station is Morden😁
Mine is Balham
@@ok7513 Balham - the only tube station with no letters of the "London Underground.'
Mine is Harlesden
Wow, I managed to do it wich I am very proud of because I have only been to London twice and I started learning the stations just 3 weeks ago :-)
7.18 "epping , debden , theydon bois " made , me laugh how he got it wrong it's the other way around ... if only it was one station closer would save me some money 😂😂😂😂, that's the most easy part of the central line seeing as i live near there
I love your Mouquette cushions, Can you get those in the London Transport museum shop? i.e THE BEST SHOP EVER
And if anyone can master that game without making a mistake or omission (pretty darn hard), try Nightmare Mode: add in the DLR / Overground / Network Rail lines...
mittfh - or a real challenge - start with a blank street and draw the lines as well!
I might do that but with the Overground DLR and Trams and TFL Rail and ThamesLink.
You stated that you got the picadilly line correct though you did in fact muddle up a few in the Southgate, Arnos Grove area :)
Did anyone see the D-Stock moquette cushion in the background? Loved it! 😂
Fancy missing the station where I lived my youth! Hendon Central of course!
Same but he got it the wrong way around.
Hey Geoff, if you read this I was wandering if you know someone called Gary Sycamore, he was my drum teacher for 2 years, but did lots of music tech stuff, he was about the same age as you, and even looked similar.
Great vid Geoff!
It would be interesting to see you do this again in a year's time with DLR and Overground stations included.
hey Geoff huge fan watch all of the secret of the underground and more and I could watch over and over , will there be any more underground related videos
Geofftech that's great again huge fan
one more question does Londonist have merchandise
Kingsbury, Queensbury, Canons Park, Stanmore......Becontree, Upney, Barking, Oriental Cured Pork, Upton Park. Plaistow..
That's more tube stations than I could write on a blank map. I probably couldn't remember all the stops on the Toronto subway and there's only about 20 of them
Geoff. You said East Ham when doing the Eastern bit of the District Line, so I'm surprised you missed it.
I’m pretty sure Geoff did a video on how to do the tube challenge on visiting all the stations, however I cannot find it. Could anyone send me a link or point me in the right direction?
Sorry for being picky, but you forgot Shepherd's Bush and Holland Park on the Central Line, and Theydon Bois and Debden should be swapped on the eastern end of the Central Line. (I swear I didn't look at a tube map while typing this)
Geoff I used to live at Northwood Hills and it's a beautiful station
I also made a more geographically accurate Tube Map by hand, but I also kind of screwed up the downtown London area
Haha Eastern District line, should be a whole line in itself! and Guess where I live...? should know that region like the back of my hand, but I really don't!
I thought the King's Cross Abbreviation was KGX. oe is that just for British Rail?
Well done. Think with the station dots in you would have done it in the 15mins and got them all.
Lner use kgx for kings cross but add st pancreas its kgxstp
The eastern end of the Central line, Newbury Park comes before Gants Hill
I challenge you to do a blank NYC map all 469 stations bonus points for SAS stops and the one fill in stop on the flushing line
Jubilee line - West Hampstead between Finchley Rd and Kilburn
Just a suggestion, if your Interested in OS maps, maybe do some sort of video on that subject?
:-O How has no one pointed out that Elm Park is before the Dagenhams going west? It goes Hornchurch, Elm Park, Dagenham East! (I should know - I live in Upminster :-P)
Where did you get the blank tube map
there are only 270? here in Oslo we have 101 stations and we only have 660 000 innhabitants. Funny videos, been too London several times, allways ride the tube.
It's Queenbury then Kingsbury
Queensbury
Just a correction... Elm Park is between Hornchurch and Dagenham Heathway on the District Line.
Paul Williams you got dagenham east after heathway and before elm park
Actually your wrong Paul. It's between Dagenham East and hornchurch
I only saw this one today and it gave me an idea for your next video.
All The Tube Stations, set to the tune of The Very Model by Gilbert And Sullivan (Similar to Tom Lehrer's Elements song) 😂
you mixed southgate and arnos grove from the piccadilly line at the top
Jeff, your score is actually 263-270. It's Arnos Grove then Southgate. You missed out Burnt Oak.
7:20 He didn't miss Burnt Oak (I know Im 3 years late.)
Okay I just did the challenge and it took me 28:18 to do 268 stations (missed out Mill Hill East & Notting Hill Gate).
I know this is an old video, but it would be interesting to see if you could write in all the tube stations AND draw in the boundaries of each zone in the right places too!
You got Oval and Kennington the wrong way round
I am so thankful DC's Metrorail only has 86 stations. But be thankful you don't live in New York, which has [422 unique] stations!
