    Great review, and good to get all the benchmark details in the proces. My Slim 7 pro was priced at the equivalent of 1075 euros, and after hearing the price of your unit I am ok with this.
    (Have been thinking about sending it back and buying the AMD version instead, but I see no real reason to try and fix something that isnt broken...)

    Nice thought to put your ear next to the keyboard , to hunt for coil whine . I thought I was the only one in the world. Now it makes two of us

    • @w2best
      @w2best  3 роки тому

      I do this with all laptops. It's one of the most annoying things and a reason to send a machine back quickly imo... Although the Yoga Slim 7 4500u I have I found for 600 euros and then I accepted the coil whine in it...

    There is an interresting twist regarding this laptop. They refreshed the intel version with the I5 11300H and the performance jump is substantial. I got it for 850 euro (i5, 2.8k display, 16gigs ram, 512gb ssd) and the CPU score 6600 point on cinebench R23. This price was due to a very short sale from the retailer. After i bought mine the price jumped back to ~1000€.
    I have 2 complaints. The keyboard is not the best. I had a zenbook 13 oled who have an astonishing keyboard. And the battery life. Also compared to the zenbook, who had a 61WH battery in a smaller chassis. The second fan on the lenovo eat a lot of space, so, it's a tradeoff. But at the same time, the zenbook is smaller. I believe that the asus battery is a better quality product.
    But overall this laptop is god tier if you don't need to be unplugged for too long or if you can recharge quickly here and there as it have quick charge.
    Another feature who is not talked about a lot is the ability for the computer to detect if you leave the seat, lock itself and detect if you come back and unlock itself without the need to press any boutton. Amazing for people who work in an office and leave to pee or anything else. It takes less than 30 sec to lock itself if configured to do it fast.

    • @w2best
      @w2best  2 роки тому +2

      Great to hear you get such good performance!
      I really prefer the Lenovo keyboard to the Asus! I think the keys are too low travel on ZenBooks!
      I'm moving away from using my yoga Slim 7 pro and mainly this is because of the battery life. It's such a bummer given how they market it...

  • @dl88889

    The only reason why I ordered the Intel version of this laptop instead of waiting for the AMD version is the Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports. I believe this might be the cheapest laptop with 2x thunderbolt 4 in my region.
    i5 + 256ssd + 16gb ram totaled to about 1400 SGD, which is about 870 euros. A local discount code brought it to 1250 SGD (775 euros).
    Judging from your tests, I think I might be slightly dissapointed with the battery life ... But everything else seemed perfect for my usecase.

    • @w2best
      @w2best  3 роки тому

      That's a nice price for sure! Then a bigger ssd and you're really set! I'm not sure about this vs my Matebook 14 yet!

    I need an Yoga Slim 7 Pro with 2K because I need to develop code. BUT I need a non-glossy screen, so I will buy a screen-protector for the X1, that fit's on the Yoga Slim 7 Pro, I bought the AMD Ryzen 9 5800HX version, and I will use an SOLAR BATTERY PACK with 99WH to have a backup power source at 3A via USB-C, which can recharge via the SUN.

    Great review! It is such a pity that the AMD Zen 3 versions of this excellent laptop cannot be purchased right now, at least not with a nordic keyboard. I did order a Slim 7 Pro with Ryzen 7 5800H back in March. It should offer fantastic performance if I ever get the delivery. However, the supplier does not really know when (if at all) that will happen. The best laptop to use is still one that you can actually buy.

While it was already in my shopping basket it went up to € 899. Just hoping, that it will be the right device in the box! Anyone has any experience with battery consumption and the OLED screen? From 88 to 79% , that's 11% spent for 1h wifi video at 75% brightness that would make some max 9.5 to 10h . I can happily live with that . As I also use the Xiaomi 3 Pro 45W PD at 70-72Wh powerbank via USB-C , I can manage a week end without pluging it .

    • @w2best
      @w2best  3 роки тому

      Yes - it's just that it's a bit hard to use it at 75% if it's daylight. But I agree. If this is your use case - the battery life is not too shabby.

      @@w2best About buying /keeping the laptop :
      Three weeks ago when I put it in the shopping cart it was on a special sale at 4400 RON=900 Euro . If I had known all of your findings it would have made a nice bargain and a keeper. Now it is on sale at the regular 5500 Ron= 1100 Euros but OUT of Stock ! . I will keep a daily watch for the special sale price.
      More so I have found a real tech friend in you, I can daily/weekly consult for more unbiased reviews. Once again many thanks for the wonderful job.
      May I make one suggestion for future laptop reviews ?
      I ,and also hope many others, will be very interested for the way the screen handles very bright environments/ direct sunlight , like outside on a bench when taking the lunch break. For me , this can be a deal breaker as most laptop screens max out at under 300 nits. That what made this laptop so special for me ( and the quality of the screen also and the fan noise when working in the evening at home next to my sleepy girl friend

    great review. what i am loo,ing for in review is the practical use as a LAPtop.
    So what is it like when using on your lap during those tests you did?
    Does the cooling still works as the air intake may be more limited. What is the temp on the BOOTOM of the laptop because that is on your legs.
    Also something not mentioned in other reviews is if it uses PWM to dim the brightness? This can cause headache

    Great review. I also think it is a bit overpriced. It’s 300-400 more than the regular Slim 7. not sure if its worth it. The screen is better but glossy. on the other hand the regular one has a better port selection and better battery life.

      @@w2best yes. I can get the regular i5 in the config you showed for 850€, AMD same but with 1TB SSD. I’m leaning more towards the intel with thunderbolt and my usecase. I currently have the M1 Air at home for 999€, it is a great device but I struggle with choppy scrolling and maybe the screen is just a bit too small. Really tough, would be my first Mac. I can still return for about 3 weeks. Maybe ideally I have to wait for the 14 inch pro + some fixes over time but then at a much higher cost. I might order the i5 for comparison. ahhh :)
