- Sadly I've lost a couple of plants so far this winter. An Astrophytum asterias and my lovely purple Eriosyce occulta which I only got last summer. Just one of the many challenges of growing these plants, especially during the colder months. Make sure you check your plants often! :)

Hi Daz! So sorry about the plants you lost, I absolutely know the feeling, and as you said, it's never nice to lose plants, but it is what it is! Sometimes plants just suddenly develop rot, completely out of the blue, and it appears to be quite random, but often related to fungi or viruses that have entered and attacked the plants many weeks before they suddenly die. Hopefully you do not have to suffer any more losses this winter, my friend! Best wishes to you and Edith, take care and happier growing going forward of course!

OUCH!! That hurt!! Those aren't just every day plants!!! When I see something like this my heart sinks and it's usually followed by aww $#@%!! Yeah that really is sad!!! Definitely been there. Sorry Daz. Seems every year we lose something for one Reason or another. Our love of plants is always a challenge . Maybe you can find others on line hope so!! I never have replaced any of my ariocarpus or copiapoa. Due to scale and a freeze. Kinda feel defeated on those. Thanks for sharing Daz!!! Hope you don't lose any more. Sorry to see those rot. We definitely know how it feels. We lost dozens of cacti and succulents in our heat wave of 2023. Then we had a freeze early this month and lost some more.

That sucks! I also find Eriosyce very tricky. One day it’s flowering, the next week it’s rotting. And I’m clueless. 🤷🏻♀️

I'm sorry to hear about your losses, it's always so sad. This winter I've lost a few: astrophytum, gymno, eriosyce but luckily far few less than the previous winter. Only a month and a bit left and finally spring will start.

Ohhhhh nooooo Daz, we are gutted for you, your Eriosyce occulata was a real special beauty and so sad with your Astro asterias, it really is a tough testing time for all our plants to get them over the winter months, and its always at the end of Jan and early feb that I start to notice 'gonners' argh, fingers crossed that you won't lose any more this winter, I notice one of my Fero's is not looking that good either, it was looking a bit off colour in the Summer but I think this winter may be finishing it off, 'survival of the fittest' season during winter is so true, thanks so much for sharing the sad update with us Daz, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Edith lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to England and Singapore for wonderful afternoon XXXX

During February and into March is when I usually start to notice some of the smaller ones becoming dehydrated so I tend to lose one or two around that time as well. Damnit man... i was just about to leave you a comment on your Neochilenia unboxing vid asking for a Neochilenia Occulta update, but then i checked this vid, HOPING it wouldnt be a victim featured... and here i am. I too have one, about a quarter sized purple one. Im thinking i may transplant it into a 90% pumice mix. Gotta keep it real airy around that tap root. Nothing worse than surprise rot, especially when you have no idea why it happened.

It's a pesticide. Even though it deals with mealybugs they can still infest a plant during the winter as it's only activated when you water the plant. Thanks for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌺🌸🌼🏜

Oh too bad about that occulta. I have a very similar one and even just a little more than that size its been giving me 3 flowers each year. You need a trigger warning before you crack that open though. OMG, so gross LOL.

One of my cacti rotted. 😢 one of my favorite ones. I tried to save it but it just rotted on through. I have to repot some. I left them in the soil they came in and it just isn't good for them.
