You know both of these were made in China right? The only difference is the company selling the “good” one ordered a higher quality build. The cheap one order lower quality or no quality. But both were probably made in the same factory just different jobs for different orders. Your racism is showing.
When it shuts off when you short it out, check to see if it's still passing current. I tested a few cheap ones, and even with the screen blank, it was still pulling ten amps.
Plenty of companies SAY that, but voiding a warranty just because a product was opened is actually not lawful in the USA. The company that provides the warranty has to prove that the device was damaged or modified in a way that caused it to fail. A broken sticker that says "warranty void if seal is broken" is not enough by itself. The legislation in question is The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
When I bought my 1st Power Probe it was 40 bucks. It had 1 led that changed red or green depending on positive or negative at the tip. It still had the switch and circuit breaker 3amps I think along with the auxiliary ground. I still have it and use it all the time after 25 years.
@@FunkFPV In all the years I've watched UA-cam I've commented maybe 5 times. Normally I don't bother but with you it's worth it. I enjoy what you do. Thank you.

It's honestly not nearly as bad as I expected, especially for $7. I'm certainly not going to be buying one, but I was expecting much much worse. The fact it actually has any overload protection is truly mind blowing to me. The Power Probes circuit breaker isn't great quality. I've had to replace a few of them when the breaker failed. Not sure how good the knockoffs overload protection is but it might actually be an improvement over the PPs low quality breaker.
Been looking into a power probe IV to compliment my test light and meter. I used to have an older one that was my dads, but it has unfortunately ran off over the years. If you happen to get one I'd love to see a comparison to your old power probe and see if other than your old one being broken if it would be worth it to upgrade to the new one. Great video as always. Keep up the good work.
The power probe is way more expensive in the uk, too dear for what it is. I got a £22 one off aliexpress a couple of years back, with a colour lcd, accurate readings, high low tones, load of accessories, basic oscilloscope function. It has been a great tool for the money and has stood the test of abuse.
I have the EZ model that has bigger backlit display and comes in hard case. Cost less than 80 on sale. Very happy with it. The cheapos may be fine too for most people.
I bought this same one from TikTok. I work on forklifts as well and had been contemplating purchasing a Power Probe but wasn't sure if I would utilize it enough to justify the expensive one. It isn't great but not terrible. After using it and finding uses I will probably buy the legit one.
I've got this power probe as well but I never use it. However, I use the cable on it hooked to the battery as a "portable" guaranteed power and ground since they use standard banana jacks that are compatible with anything.
Saw one on Amazon for closer to $70 that looked identical but had an orange case LOL! Like many budget tools, this might be OK for occasional home use. If you make your living with it, invest in a good tool.
Thanks for posting this AND tearing it apart! If I go cheap I've got an unused long-a$$ SAE cable that I'll replace the stock power cables with that will allow me to easily switch between alligator and cigarette lighter ends. Also, did you read the directions? Wondering if it has some goofy hidden mute, like turn on while holding the inject switch? Probably worth the effort of tying a knot or glueing that cable to the strain relief. Capturing the failure of the cold joint in the alligator clip was fantastic!
