I started Muay Thai a year ago at the age of 43. I did not do any sports for the last 15 years. Now, after 1 year of training, I am in much better shape. I lost 10 kilograms, my stamina is way better, I feel really good. I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I started some muscle training, eat healthier, drink less softdrinks, quit smoking... And now, at 44, I am stronger thann I was at 33. It is too late to do competition, but not to late late to train, to do sparring, to have fun...Yeah, ok, my knees hurt, an my left elbow and my left handwrist and I feel a bit tired. So what? Today (saturday) I did 1,5 hours sparring and on monday I will go to training again.

I'm what's considered "middle-aged" and I train capoeira and Muay Thai, including sparring. It's hard,, but I believe at this age, it's "use it or lose it." If you don't train something, you'll lose your ability to train anything. Not being active is a one-way ticket to the nursing home. There are no guarantees, but I prefer to hedge my bets.

I started muaythai at 57. I'd be gased by the end of first round, doing pad work. i was able to build my endurance ( stamina?) and regroup my thinking, staying relaxed. This got me past the sticking point, and now I train just like anyother guys. Also, starting at 57, my joints were very stiff. I couldn't roll my hip for a proper round house kick. I think somewhere around my pelvic bone loss its elasticity. Thru perseverance, it took me over 6 months to be able to roll my hip for proper round house kick. Here is yours truly doing pad work four minutes rounds, at age 76+. ua-cam.com/video/Dv-vbV25SCQ/v-deo.html

I’m still training yes it hurts but if you train in your 40’s you must be devoted! You said it accept it that you are at your age. Take your time do it. I’m doing Muay Thai and Bjj

I started martial arts in my mid 40’s. I’m 61 now and still practicing. The hardest part is finding dojos with instructors that know the difference between teaching senior citizens and teenagers. It seems obvious, but most instructors are more comfortable teaching children and don’t acknowledge that older adults have very different strengths and weaknesses.

Im almost 50, started Muay Thai at 47. Can train 4-5 times a week and actively take part in interclubs - finding someone my age is unlikely so spar and compete with those half my age. Its all good fun and a great journey. Being with like-minded positive and enthusiastic people is motivating in itself. Building friendships and relationships, you cant beat it. Train, stretch, rest, roll with the punches and keep pushing forward. Nice video. Its all about mindset, personal progress and trying to resist comparing yourself to those 20 years younger although you may be surprised as being older doesn't necessarily mean your the weakest

I came back to BJJ in January at the age of 41 after 13 years away from the art. Things are definitely different now but I set my mind to being able to compete again and have hit the gym HARD. Like way harder than I ever did before. Not only jiu jitsu but cardio, strength, conditioning, calisthenics workouts. Last month I had an all out war with another guy 12 years younger, athletic, explosive and equally skilled as I am. He attacked hard and fast, and I…defended! The more he attacked the more I defended. The more he turned it up the more I matched his intensity. I hit sweeps, escaped a back mount and bottom side control and finished him with a spinning arm lock. It was a wild pace. We got done and my t shirt looked like I had been in a street fight. The coach came over and asked what happened to my shirt and I said it’s his fault - I got into a fight with him. He came over and slapped me on the back and agreed that it was an awesome match. I love it.
It’s harder now but it is totally worth it.

And it is not that difficult to adapt cause of the long year experience. I like it. Sometimes on a day off i join other systems like Kyokushin or Kali.
i don´t have the feeling that i get old. Exept in hard Kickbox Sparring with young and hungry guys like 18-25. Thats rough nowadays.

Unfortunately, the gym is very popular and has only one coach, so after 2 weeks he kindly admitted, he won‘t be able to properly support me. Before that, in my 40s, I did power lifting. In my 20s and 30s I lifted weights and trained in traditional martial arts. I don't have a long recovery time, and I work out for 2 hours almost every day. I think the reason for this is because I've been doing vigorous sports for several decades and also because I've been lucky. I don't take my luck for granted, believe me. But I don't think all older people need this extensive recovery time or long stretching sessions etc.

I remember being petrified the first time i walked in the gym but it has all been worth it and then some, despite numerous bloody noses, black eyes and a cracked rib along the way so far. One piece of advice for anyone older starting striking, get some good inner gloves / wraps and boxing gloves with an emphasis on wrist support - The first few months learning to actually punch correctly can be brutal on your wrist ligaments if unprepared with cheap equipment.

Been training martial arts most of my life. I found Muay Thai at 40. Going on 11 years straight at my Muay Thai gym. I’m now 51. I’ve never been in better shape. I’m happier, healthier, and have been injury free all these years.(fingers crossed)
I believe our bodies must be stressed physically in order to be resilient.
I take hard enough shots to the legs and body(not head) to stress my bones and muscles. I push it enough to remain injury free but become as conditioned as possible.
I see my friends and family deteriorating because of inactivity. I’m so blessed that I’ve become addicted to this sports. I just wish I had found it in my youth to have been able to compete.
Stick with it fellow old guys. We ll be the baddest dudes in those rest homes one day!!!

This is actually really encouraging for me. I’m in my early 30s and have done martial arts in some capacity for most of my life (Shotokan base, mostly kick boxing recently) I’m fascinated by Muay Thai so I’ve been combing through tutorials and seeing how much I can incorporate into my kick boxing. (Obviously I can’t go to the gym and start throwing elbows when I spar.) I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my lead hook when I use Muay Thai stance. The more grounded/versatile stance has really made me interested in delving deeper into Muay Thai but I don’t know how much I can really experience the intricacies if I don’t take the plunge and compete… but then I might eat an elbow. Lol

    • @Krufessor_Rad
      @Krufessor_Rad  Рік тому +1

in most states there are no elbows in amateur Muay Thai. At least not for your first few fights. Then again, it can be a matter of which organization oversees the fight promotion you compete in. There are a lot of state tournaments and stuff that keep ammy's very safe. I'd look at what is available in your area and understand the rules and standards.

prior to starting and while doing either. Be sure you are taking steps to take care of and recover your back. That will be a huge factor in doing either, but even more so when doing BJJ.

I'd never feel comfortable getting older and not having a functionally strong body. Meaning I can move and handle myself without issue. So in tandem with that you'd need the skills to handle yourself. You are younger than the people I'm speaking to in this video so you're definitely not too old, so I'd suggest getting started, and never stopping again. That's just my two cents.

im 32 and feel too old already. its just feels like a waste of time to go hard on something when you have no potential to be good anyway. aging 100% sucks your body just progressively becomes a worse version of itself every single year that passes and you have to work harder to maintain it. sure i can improve myself but it doesn't change the fact that if i started 10 years earlier id be much better. superior people always start things as early as they can so they dominate whatever field they are in. if you don't learn young, you're always going to be lesser and the best you can hope for is to be medicore at everything. seems like a waste of effort and time to me.

60 years old next birthday, have always lead an active life. Started Muay Thai around 4 years ago, and still at it. Currently doing a two months training camp in Phuket Thailand doing MT (traing 5/6 times a week when not injured). Absolutely loving it, i'm in the best shape ive been in for years. Everything he says is true, it never too late, you just have to adapt certain things, KNOW YOUR OWN BODY and listen to it. Eating healthy is important as is getting enough rest, ( I will also add staying off the beer is a massive massive contributer to it all). MT is a demanding physical sport, but if you apply yourself to it correctly the rewards are awesome. The community spirit and mutual respect amongst fellow students and practitioners is amazing. So in conclusion, if you want to give it a go I'd say go for it it will improve your life in so many ways. Oooooo eeeeee.
