I was at this concert, and correct me if I am wrong, but the reason the crowd was so quiet was because this is the first time AC played anything off of centipede hz in America at least. Everyone was expecting, including myself, merriweather post pavilion and strawberry jam. At the time I was disappointed but now feel like one of the luckiest people alive to hear most of their new album over a year before it came out
I find it funny that people are surprised they played this song a year before it was released, they have been doing that for a decade now (they premiered the MPP songs back in 2007, SJ songs in 2005 etc.)... This is Animal Collective, always one step ahead of everyone! And this is an awesome performance, I hope p4k will upload some more of the new songs.
Avey's vox only sound lip synced because Geo is running so many effects on them (which is not a bad thing) making them repeat and stutter and bubble, etc... Understandable where some of you guys are coming from however
well that's your opinion and i bet many fans disagree, i love all the albums you mentioned and i think chz fits right in as another classic from the boys. Every song on it is good in one way or another
cool, ive been looking at some vocal effects pedals online, but they dont talk much about what you can do with them except for like chorus, reverb, distortion and stuff like that. What im curious about is how he gets effects like at 00:25, 3:23, and that repetition he gets at 2:31.. any ideas?
He may either have a vocal effects pedal under his piano, or, more likely, his microphone is routed into Geologist's equipment before going to the speakers.
And that's why I'm surprised he's singing along. Like the old videos of "For Reverend Green" or "Summertime Clothes" (the ones that pre-date their respective albums), the lyrics are different in almost every performance.
Thank you! Thats a much better comment than "nigga needs to learn how to use a kick drum". Thats a totally valid view with good reasoning behind it. argument settled!
haha well, they played the CHz songs for the first time in April last year and there were plenty of live recordings floating around of those shows so it's not that weird that he already knew them. It's kinda funny though because they usually change the lyrics up quite a bit for the studio versions, Today's Supernatural has almost entirely different lyrics too compared to this version.
Well if you don't like their music then why are you wasting your time typing in comments on their video. Do you think you're going to persuade those who do enjoy their music to not listen to them anymore? Haha...it doesn't make sense
I think they were taken aback (and the live version you saw was probably much better than this one). This performance was from the year before Centipede Hz came out. Six months ago, it had been out for over a year.

seeing the full band lineup live is legendary
this song really grew on me. this is definitely not my music, but for some reason i can't stop listening
Only Noah can have a music seizure that a camera can't capture...his lyrics changed my life..."why did i fly so high?"
Yep, this is 2011. The Knock You Down/Brothersport segment was so sweet.
Love the House shirt. That movie is crazy.
They sound great. Don't know what you guys are talking about. I mean, look at Panda going at the drums at the end.
They were the whole reason I traveled from NC to Chicago for the festival, was so sick.
Today's Supernatural: Best New Track

I said the same thing when I first heard their song "Did You See The Words" three years ago... trust me, this is how the addiction begins hahaha.
Panda bear at the end!
Can't wait to see them!
did panda open his eyes at all??
It's not like they're the only band to do new songs live either. Don't know why people are surprised.
well that's your opinion and i bet many fans disagree, i love all the albums you mentioned and i think chz fits right in as another classic from the boys. Every song on it is good in one way or another
SO GOOD!

LELELELELE GOOO!!!
This is ace!
This performance is around a year before they even recorded the studio version. A lot can happen in a year.
Fuck.. panda bear makes me want to be gay :(
Did you see the words?
Panda looks so tired haha
LELELELELELE GOOOO
FUCK YES
indeed
Panda going crazy on the drums!
He may either have a vocal effects pedal under his piano, or, more likely, his microphone is routed into Geologist's equipment before going to the speakers.
is it the same lyrics in this live version and in the studio version? case it seem really different xD but still very good ans AMAZING !! :D
Panda Bear on those fucking drums.
Good music is Undeniable that's why :P
And that's why I'm surprised he's singing along. Like the old videos of "For Reverend Green" or "Summertime Clothes" (the ones that pre-date their respective albums), the lyrics are different in almost every performance.
3:31 Panda seizures in 3,2,1 xD
What's the metal thing on Panda Bear's bass drum?
maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
does anyone know how hes doing does vocal effects live?
CMON LELELELLELELELELETIT GO
Besides, he uses a lot of other drums in place of a kick. And I'm sure he uses it in this song too. Basically clam down VapourTrails.
and i'm not specifically talking about his use of the kick drum. lol
Nah dude, Spirit They're Gone has his best drumming on it bar none.
Woah dude.....
the audience is like "wheres peacebone??"
love aveys face at 1:00
AnCo has always performed their music well in advance of releasing it on an album, so yep, 2011.
Jajaja la cara de la gente que no sabe que brgas están escuchando xD
Thank you! Thats a much better comment than "nigga needs to learn how to use a kick drum". Thats a totally valid view with good reasoning behind it. argument settled!
3:40 YES PANDAA!!!!!!!
I looove animal collective but dammnnn did you sell all those hipsters in the crowd with all their hipster uniforms on.. jeeez
THE size of that bass drum
@1:51 , you can really tell the audience is getting into the new soundz

you have to remember this was a very new song at the time so it wasn't like they just werent into it. but i agree.
are you referring to how hard he's stomping that pedal? cause thats one big ass maraca he's having to shake.
Yeah, I know, I've seen them a few times. It's still crazy to me that he picked out the lyrics even with how much Avey changes them.
a small show and a music festival are two very different beasts... that said, i have seen them play at small shows to dead crowds.
from what dimension did this music come from?
Well if you don't like their music then why are you wasting your time typing in comments on their video. Do you think you're going to persuade those who do enjoy their music to not listen to them anymore? Haha...it doesn't make sense
are you referring to the shroom trip video?
3:36.....crunkest seizure ever

Music.
This is the argument that every single Animal Collective fan will make. Sorry, there is nothing to "get." It is a difference in taste/opinion. Period.
2011, eh?
why is the crowd not going CRAZY?!
AnCo always tours with new songs before they record them.
Are you seriously not going to upload the rest of the show until the songs have official names? Weak..
lelelelelelelele
Your user name is TheIrland09
What's that saying?
What guitar is that?
+Jacob Phil-Ebosie Looks like some Danelectro model. Don't know which though.
It's a Danelectro Danoblaster Innuendo I think...
Baritone Danelectro
2012 is too mainstream
Also, when I saw ACO two months ago, there was literally mosh pits to this song so this crowd is so stuck up, hipster, entitled, and bratty
I think they were taken aback (and the live version you saw was probably much better than this one). This performance was from the year before Centipede Hz came out. Six months ago, it had been out for over a year.
HEEEEEEEEEEEERE'S AVEY
I like it. Fuck the haters.
too cool to move
What's wrong with the crowd? They're all yawning! Americans don't know how to behave at a gig, specially such a talented one
Redonc
sounds like it's your music then...
oh wait it's Animal Collective's music, my bad.
omygod lok at mee im letonslang nd i dnt get it soooo i t s t o p i d
