The "Why Curve is important" section was excellent! I've *never* seen anyone else explain this concept better! Great review but I'll be waiting for a higher PPI version, ideally a 38" 3840x1600p OLED since 5120x2160p won't be easily drivable
I have it . Its the best Ultrawide for gaming period in my view. I don't need 4k gaming. Its the perfect size with at 45 inch 21;9 aspect ratio. OLED is a game changer. Im never going back.
1440p is perfect for gaming though, and this monitor is a gaming-oriented monitor after all. Even my RTX 3090 struggles to run many games at 100+ FPS in 4K. There's also no 4K version of this monitor...and won't be until some unannounced time in 2025. It will also cost significantly more. I'm not bashing 4K, I love 4K gaming monitors. But for now I still think this is the best Ultrawide OLED gaming monitor currently available.
@@CreatedTech Thats your opinion but the resolution is not it. Also super misleading not having it written... anywhere and left out of your specs section.
@@CreatedTech I currently play on a LG 38" 3840x1600 LED, and I look very much forward to the 5120x2160 240hz Oled's coming next year - as I do wish for a bit more pixels, a bit more hz, and to move to OLED :) I do even on this monitor notice that it could do better with a slightly higher pixel density - but that is really all about how far from the monitor you sit :) I can easily imagine 45" 1440p quickly being a bit blurry on a regular computer desk though - as there is not enough room to move it further back if having a wall behind. Even if I aim for higher ress myself, I think the 1440p is a good sweetspot for more users nowadays since higher ress takes too much computer power to run smooth. I currently run this monitor with a 4090 card, and expect having to use a 5090 for a 5120x2160
And price will be 3000 USD, not worth it. Great monitor for sure, but you need an absolute beast PC to even run that resolution and be able to even reach 100 fps. Very future proof monitor but it will be too expensive IMHO.
thanks for this review. I complete my purchase yesterday after a really depth investigation. After wathcing your review I firmly believe that I made the right choice.
You re going to be so dissapointed. I ve returned mine, the fucking curve is too aggresive and too much pixel on the screen not suitable for internet browsing!!!😢
Don't listen to the hater who replied to your comment. You'll probably love this monitor. The curve is great and super immersive, and 1440p resolution is really not a big deal. It's not great for reading text but it's awesome for gaming.
Over the summer, I upgraded from an IPS LCD Asus 27" ROG monitor to the Alienware AW3225QF - a 32" QD-OLED 4K display. Going OLED was an absolutely massive upgrade, especially for gaming, and the colours and everything looks absolutely amazing! Not to mention HDR looks so much better than it did on a LCD with no local dimming zones.
This an excellent review. I owned a G9 Odyessy 49" for years and switched to this. I cannot state how much I missed the verticle pixels but didn't know it. This paired with a high end gaming rig will absolutely crush any game and provide an amazing experience of silky smooth movement with vibrant visuals. It is the sweet spot imo, performance meets visual fidelity. 50 series cards will be able to do this better at 4k, if you have a 30 or 40 series card, 1440p is the way to go if you want the best of both worlds.
Yeah the shorter vertical height of the Samsung 49" is just wayyy too restrictive IMO. I feel like the edges are wasted too. I'd rather those pixels on top than to the side.
This video is interesting to me. I went from a 34in led 144 hz with a 27in 144 hz on the side for gaming and surfing. Just got the 49in Samsung Friday on Black Friday deal. I am super hyped about it. A little nervous about burn in as it’s my first oled. But that led me to researching more and found this comparison. I’m not opposed to returning it and getting this monitor but to be honest I’m not sure I’d like the aggressive curve on the lg.
It definitely is. You don't even need to sit close to notice it and no amount of anti aliasing is going to help you when gaming. You can simply not notice the less-sharp image even when you sit far enough. 1440p is good at 27" and 4k at 32" and beyond. This monitor is just not it.
@@JM-cl7cm i would to, but theres no way im still not waiting a few months again after its out, if the prices fall as fast as they did iwth this years model, I would bite me in the ass if I buy it for full price
I use it for Sim racing, it's fantastic. But the 5k/2k version will be out soon, I recommend most folks wait for that if you plan on sitting close to it. For gaming though, this 1440p version is great, less pixels to push.
@drunkhusband6257 my backlog of games is big enough by the time the 6090 comes out and can push it I'll be somewhat caught up. As an example, I still need to play thru the Witcher 2 before I can get into 3............ And I own the whole trilogy........ Damn steam bundle sales
I’ve had this monitor for several months now and it’s a beast. I prefer playing on this over my 42C2 simply because the immersion granted by the aspect ratio and curve more than outweighs the benefits of a 4K image. Playing @ 16:9 4K feels very cramped now 😂
Love this monitor! Personally the ppi is just a little too low for me at 45" so i went for the 39" version and it's my favorite monitor I've ever owned by far
I actually have both. I prefer playing my PC games on this over my LG 42 OLED as I personally find the ultrawide aspect ratio + 800r curve much more impactful due to the immersion it provides over just 4K resolution. As an added bonus, you actually also achieve better frames as 1440p is way easier to drive over 4K.
I bought the first Gen of UW monitor back in 2017 or if it was 2016, anyway, I bought the PG348Q 3440x1440p IPS OC at 100Hz and I still use it and going from a standard flat 24-27" to a 34" UW was a big difference in feel, looks and especially the immersive interactions in games. Now, I'm upgrading to 9800X3D, 5090 in January I hope and bought the G9 OLED and hoping for as a big experience leap as it was going from standard to UW.
I’m sorry but you’ve got this r value bit wrong. The human eye does not have an “r value”. The r value for a monitor defines the distance that monitor needs to be placed away from you in order to achieve a constant horizontal focal distance across the display (because of the displays curvature). 800r curved monitor? Constant horizontal focal distance occurs 80cm away. 1800r curves monitor?…1.8m away. Sitting at the displays r value away, your eyes then do not have to refocus when scanning across the display. This is true for any r value display, so long as you sit at its r distance away.
Does this have any colour fringing issues on Windows or Mac? Where the edges of text/elements only light up some of the OLED sub pixels, leading to pink/green tinges on the edges of elements? I had this issues on an Alienware OLED.

Do yourself a favor. Get a 32" 4k 240Hz QD-OLED like the Dell Alienware AW3225QF and enjoy immersive, vertical space, Glossy and high PPI.
95 model would be my choice easily, extra brightness you get with 96 is basically useless as it's already too bright, and it cost 1000$ more.
Perfection? Ahh, I'd day perfection is 3440×1440 or better yet 5120×2160 on a 29 inches with 240Hz minimum plus an insanely bright HDR.
We all have different tastes, but gotta be honest, I would never call a 45" 1440P oled "perfect." That pixel density is atrocious.
