- Discord... is for gamers. But gamers need more gamer-ness. Solution? Discord Clan Servers.
That's right fellow Discord degenerates, Discord is adding a new type of Discord server called "clan server". What does it do? I don't even know (well I do but you have to watch the video teehee).
Oh and Discord has a secret feature they are working on, it's called "Operation Porthole". What does it do? Well it allows Discord bots to do even more than you could think (I dont think).
Anyhoot it's a news video so you are obligated to get your serving of Discord experimental features, minor changes, and for dessert this week, you get another free Discord nitro promotion!

The clan server idea is really nice actually, a lot of whitelisted Minecraft servers will no longer have to use bots and play around with permissions
i play minecraft anarchy and run a smaller group, i would love the clan servers
The clan applications should be added to *all* servers!!! This would fit so neatly in our sever, because currently we depend on our members sending the answers to multiple questions in a channel, and us having to fully manually accept or decline these people.

I would really like it if the manual verification system was added with larger member counts too!
The application part should be available for ALL servers, at least so we can create custom forms without the hassle of a bot.
I love maintaining my codebase for the bot but it’s a pain sometimes. And this would be an easy solution

Honestly I just want official "Sub-Cords" for say, different factions of an ingame group/clan. Where you have to be in the main server for it to apply but the two servers are intrinsically linked together. If you're banned in one, you're banned in both (This would be a ticked box that you can activate). The owner being able to "Ghost" subcords would also be cool, where they can enter the server without actually entering, the server would be owned by the owner of the main discord server but it would be much easier to manage. Some form of "Server Parity" with roles would also be really interesting i think. Say if you join the subcord you would be given a role in the main server instantly with "[Subcord Member]" or whatever the roles name is.
This is what I thought it was at first, the longer I watched the worse it became, I don't see the point of the current version of clan servers
I think for the moment this purpose just setting up categories with access roles works well.
Everyone's in the main hub but whoever wants access to game 1 or game 2 chats and so on, there's community features to help with that and they're pretty solid IMO
I want this to be a thing ESPECIALLY for clan servers. Divisions and teams for certain games? Woooahahahaa that would be so nice

Guilds = Clans, Discord was build to serve gaming guilds but it has extended beyond that point. So now they're trying the same thing again. Full Circle.
Discord is just continuing their trend of stealing features that Guilded has had for 10 years, but implementing them very poorly.

Two guesses, the naive is that they maybe are trying to make some sort of space that was originally meant just for gaming, instead of this general purpose that 2019 and covid boosted recently.
The other one is to just kickout competition with gilded as quickly showed. Ive never used gilded so idk lol
Every single new feature Discord has added in the last 6-7 years has been ripped straight from Guilded including this one. And Discord somehow always manages to do it worse. So yeah, it’s the second option lol.
I think it's ridiculous that they backtracked their Web3 integrations... Communities are super important for 2 very large industry segments: gaming & web3 (best if both).
Backtracking on their developments just because of some random user backlash is very sad... they'll be forced to add it in at some point if they want to stay relevant. If not then and now, then sometime in the future; if they don't wither down first.

@@Chinoman10 Yeah, I rememer that. But i think it was mostly for reputation. For all i've heard as a netizen is that it's mostly powered by digital currency. Straight to the point: crypto dudes and their awful reputation that kinda ruined the first glance of a web3.
Though, idk if those emerging federate web socials and services would be considered into web3, but they seem a truly great point to call it a new web in some sort of way.

Every discord free Nitro Event in a nutshell
They really should bring the option to convert an existing server to a clan server, As well as to move the application to join to community servers so they can optionally enable this. As well the owners being able to change the member limit, but maybe not lower than the members inside.

As a guild leader, this new feature seems amazing! No more complicated application processes with the built in form. I just hope it won't require us to make a new server, as we won't just flush 8 years of server history down the drain ^^'
As a guild leader, why were you ever making sacrifices on Discord and not using Guilded? Guilded has had applications for like, a decade.

The clans thing is probably to make discord back to being the main thing for gamers
It would be cool to also to lower the limit. Like in CoC you can only have 50 members, so it would be cool to limit them to for example 75.

I think the clan is good for like a staff members. If we look the discord owner eyes that you see all channels lot of staff member can't see like a manager chat and etcs more. + you can make the clan and if you make appli and you can confirm this this guy is on the staff member list or not. Mostly you can make a priv staff chat only and owners can finnaly clean channels that not need to find a staff channels. only logs channels or make a bot that sends the logs on the clan discord server! For my eyes is good and ye some times bad only for me i hope this will come out!

Alienware arena makes it hard for you to delete your account. Just a warning about Predatory Practices. And for all the 13 year olds: You have to enter a payment type to claim the gift. This means you need a card or a paypal account or similar stuff. If you dont have that you cant claim.
Ah yes, 200 members cap for a clan in Discord. Meanwhile in Warframe for Moon clans you need to recruit in-game 999 additional members, which isn't enough to get all people on Discord. Discord once again not thinking enough...

The password thing is going to become a major problem right away. People are going to set up throw away servers to farm passwords. Even if only a couple people fall for it, the ability to directly target specific people will be a major problem.
