i remember being a middle schooler and beating this game on my birthday at the arcade with a friend. we got to the very end and the game forces you to fight each other over the girl. My friend and I kept putting quarters in to make sure the other didn't "win". who knows how many extra quarters the game got from that ending fight alone, what a smart business decision lol

Did you know they were not the first to utilize this idea. If you beat Double Dragon in both the arcade and on the Sega Master System port in 2 player mode it does the same thing. You both have to fight for the girls affection. Although I can't remember if you have the ability to continue or not when one player loses. I don't think you can on the Master System at least.

One of the best, most fun 3D arcade beat'em ups. Die Hard Arcade's official release is still stuck on Sega Saturn while it's japanese Sega Ages remake on PS2 is exclusive to the japanese PSN.

It's sad that Bruce Willis is slowly losing his mental faculties, at such a (relatively) young age. At least he's got the money he needs for proper treatment and make his situation the least bad possible for himself and his family. Anyway, as someone knowing of people who are in a similar situation, it saddened me when I first saw it on the news a few weeks ago.

I put SO many quarters into this game at my local arcade. I eventually beat it with the help of a friend. All the QuickTime events were a neat idea and the final boss using desks and stuff to smash you was a fun last battle. The sequel game in the boat wasn’t as memorable.

From what I've heard, SEGA was sitting in a warehouse surplus of unutilized STV boards in Japan. Apparently they STV platform was not the success they had hoped among arcade operators, especially compared to the SEGA Model 2 at the time.
So they approached 20th Century Fox for a license to repurpose Dynamite Deka for a stateside release. Their risk paid off and Die Hard Arcade became the most successful STV title ever made.
Its sequel Dekka 2 (Dynamite Cop) is one of my favorite beatemups ever, tho Die Hard Arcade laid the foundation which Dekka 2 perfected.
    Nice video.

That thing with throwing the gun after it runs out of ammo had a funny moment on TV. On the 50's Superman TV show, there was an episode where a thug shoots at Superman. a surprisingly deep and fun game. on the surface I can see how it would get bad reviews... the graphics are blocky and the textures basic (like an early playstation... or saturn game for that matter), it departs from the movie source material quite a bit, and it has the goofy deep scan game mode to build up enough credits to beat the game easily even if you have no skills whatsoever. Other than the Saturn version have a lot of loading interruptions, it's much better when you realize that it's the virtual fighter engine with an equivalent variety of moves and secrets built into the action, and when you realize the movement is meant to mimic the "pseudo-3d" alignment of games like Double Dragon and Final Fight (rather than a true 3d environment) it's surprisingly easy to play and enjoy especially with a friend. I love it and it's even more charming than the quasi-sequel on the Dreamcast, as wild as "Dynamite Cop" can be.

I still remember the first time I played this I was 12 or 13 years old at my local AMC movie theater in 1996. I remember walking by and wondering what the heck it was. Nobody was at the machine so I stood next to it watching the attract mode with the helicopter sound and when I saw the SEGA logo I knew it was going to be good. I exchanged some of my snack money into quarters and played maybe for 15 minutes but I had a blast the entire time and I loved how the controls felt exactly like Virtua Fighter as it felt familiar and comfortable for me. Not long after that the game came out for Saturn but since I didn't own the system it would be years until I could play it again. I thought it was the only game in the series and I had a Dreamcast I didn't know Dynamite Cop was it's sequel because of the name difference. I wish Sega would bring it back as not a lot of people know about the games. 😄

How'd they forget to make John McClane left-handed?! Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza is the only Die Hard game to get that detail right. And it's an FPS game, meaning that there'd be more of a reason to do it wrong on purpose just to appease the status quo or whatever. I remember this hitting my local arcade when I was in high school. We couldn’t get enough of it … but we also didn’t think there was any connection to the Die Hard movies. I didn’t catch onto the building cues, and between the character having no Bruce Willis likeness and no movie dialogue, it just didn’t set in. But no complaints - this game kicked butt. I freaking love this game😀😍👊🔫🕹🎮. I remember playing both the arcade and Saturn version of Die Hard arcade. I also enjoyed playing dynamite cop for both the arcade and Sega dreamcast. I did not know there was a 3rd installment. It would be great if this games were released on modern game consoles.

I remember our Tilt arcade having Diehard as sort of this waist high cocktail machine that everyone would stand over while looking down at the screen to play. Not sure if it was a custom cabinet or the original cabinet. Never played this one as it looked like a quarter eater!

A couple tips. I'd you jump with a gun, you can shoot downed enemies. When fighting the firefighters, hold down while shooting. You will crouch and they cannot duck your fire.

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I was a little too young to *truly* enjoy video arcades in the 1980s. Those were my early grade school years and so I wasn’t driving anywhere. I was kind of limited to birthday parties at Chuck E Cheese, the occasional visits to Aladdin’s Castle at the mall (but those were always on “adult time”), and tagging along to my mom’s bowling league games. The bowling alley that she went to had very limited arcade games-usually only three-but they were swapped out VERY frequently. Which was both good, and bad!

Great video, and nice to see some love for this game again. One of my all time favourites, and I've spent an embarrassing amount of time playing it. However, you did make a few errors in your video:
    12:02 - 12 rounds, not 15.
12:13 - Anti TANK rifle. It's literally in the bottom left corner of the screen...
    12:36 - Magazine, not a 'clip'.
14:27 - No. If you hit the correct prompt, you're given some health (look on screen) AS WELL AS being let through. Hitting the incorrect button just means you face an enemy like the example on screen. Though, there are some instances where you take damage, granted.
    15:21 - Inside, not underneath.
    18:16 - There's literally TWO on screen...
20:08 - Spray can. Not flamethrower. (me being picky)
Not hating, just saying. I always loved how a relatively old game always felt so smooth - and I'm so glad you pointed that out as well!

I played Die Hard Arcade at my local Pizza Hut and I remember seeing it as far back as 2015 in store. Dynamite Cop I played the demo on Dreamcast and wanted to get it but the system got messed up. Fun times

Man o man the memories of playing the Trilogy on my nephew' PS1 back in the late 90's. Don't even know how they got their hands on it as their mom rarely bought them games. Like how they also had Fighting Force as well the coveted Goldeneye for their N64. Have to say you surprised me here with no mention of Willis's animated series from 96-97'-'Bruno the Kid '..I swore it had been much earlier, like 91-92 but apparently not.
