How is it in northern climates?
Guys it's always a good idea to have underground utilities located before digging near a roadway. Hit a fiber optic line and you are going to learn an expensive lesson! Tim was not digging very deep and I'm sure he walked the area down before starting to identify hazards. Good video
It's funny, I ran across this video, and when Tim said let's break out the hand rake's to see where we are at, I was thinking TIM?! What about Christy and Vinnie with the power rake?! Then I see this was 5 years ago. Also means you've had that maschio tiller for a long time!

My father had a ditch Witch for years did trenching for water lines and electrical companies. One of the hardest things to get people to go along with, is leaving some dirt piled up on top of the trenches after you backfill, because it will always settle after a rain.
A good example is in a cemetery. After the grave is filled in the workers mound it. Come back in a few years and it will be almost flat. I wish the people who worked in my yard had remembered that because now it has some places where it needs to be leveled.
My dad just bought a 2020 1025R. He does a lot of plowing snow so he got it with the cab and heat. He loves it.

Have you ever though of a mini skidsteer? I rented one this weekend to move some wood and redo some trails in my woods. Maybe instead of going bigger you go more compact for even tighter areas.

It's very capable - but watching your channel gives me ideas on how to solve issues - I am a relatively new operator and have not had much experience tackling projects - (I'm an IT guy) - I primarily mow with my tractor - but I also use it to plow snow - skid logs for firewood - BTW - how many ears of corn are on a corn stalk? LOL

Typically, they breed field corn nowadays to put all of its energy into a single ear. There are several reasons for this. ...but I'm not agronomist, so don't put too much stock in my statements.
1) The corn will stand up better if only one ear. Holding up two ears takes a much stronger stalk.
2) Breeding for stalk strength is often contrary to breeding for high yield. ...so breeders want the 'weakest stalk' which will stand up long enough for harvest.
3) If the stalk is optimized for one ear, it will put on that one ear even in stressful (drought) conditions. ...it needs to be persistently determined to put on that single ear.
4) The farmer can optimize the number of plants per acre depending on the quality of the soil. So, rather than more ears per stalk, the farmer plants the corn thicker.

I own a excavation company so I have larger pieces of equipment but this machine will get a lot done without damaging the customers property!
Yep! That is the advantage! You can safely drive all over the customer’s yard.
Disadvantage is that you sacrifice power and some functionality.
I agree, I need Heavy Hitch but waiting on it. Maybe they'll give a big veteran discount one of these days!

I suppose it does take some time. We often encounter folks that want to fix their drainage problems by making their water 'run uphill'. We often cannot convince them that it is uphill until we setup our laser level.

I agree with the fact that a box blade does make moving dirt/stone around however they work best in a non-established area. You would have ended up with many clumps of grass/dirt where you don't with the tiller. Once you encounter an area where a tiller doesn't work (like my rocky yard) you will find the spot a box blade would be the better choice. Until then I vote with save your pennies and go with the tiller.
Tim you and Christie are a great couple you just seem to blend well together. You and Johnny did a great job as always on the back and on the ditch have you ever considered getting a lawn roller or something for Johnny for jobs like you did here in the back yard so you caould pack the soil down a little to help you see what it would look like after some settling? Dear Tim (or should I say Deere Tim?)
I have been enjoying your videos for about a year and am impressed with what your able to do with your little 1025. I own and operate a driveway and grounds repair service and use a 5075e. Boy it's tight in a lot of instances and impossible in others. That little guy would be great for the smaller jobs although I think a 2 or 3 series would be better. I think you agree. But that's not why I'm writing today. Throughout your videos there are a lot of instances like this job where you're leveling out a grade. The tiller is perfect to turn the grass into a workable medium. But in stead of trying to do a flat finish grade with thr FEL which is tricky and time consuming, a box scraper would be perfect to scrape the hills down and start filling the valleys. The bomb however would be a land plane to get finish grade. Your FEL could do what the box scraper would accomplish so you wouldn't really need it. After tilling you would be amazed at how fast a land plane works and how awesome the results would be. This job is screaming for one. Maybe you can rent one and try it out. You'll be buying one. Good luck with your future endeavors and can't wait to see your new tractor.....and heeeeeeeer's Johnny.

I am surprised you are able to do work in a road easement like that without notification to the town/city etc... Up here, the easement is somewhere between 4-12 feet depending on where you are and any work within that easement has to be approved by the local government or you can get fined huge... especially with water drainage areas. And I also agree with others.. I never really saw much in a box blade either, Tim.. until I used one.. And with quick attach, it takes seconds to hook up or unhook..
ohhhh, id like to get in there with my box-blade - make it look like a pool table in short order!

I owe you a special nod. I said the best way to level is with a 3-point box scraper. You said pull behind. I disagreed. Spoke to a friend who levels pasture for a living and he said pull behind hands down. Your the man Tim! Btw I love your toothed bucket, that’s a real workhorse. I checked into adding that accessory teeth to one of my buckets from HLA, but the kit is $2800.
How wide is the HLA bucket? You should be able to get a toothbar for less than $2800!!’
Its a massive....it's a HLA extra high volume HD bucket in 120".

If you have the capability I suppose its the way to go. I don't get into custom fabrication much with brand new equipment.

I didn't realize which video you were commenting on...my bad. ...this is a 'toothbar' You can get it at www.heavyhitch.com . it easily attaches to the loader bucket (in seconds...)..removal just as quick.
I find that it makes the tractor seem MUCH more powerful, as there are only a few inches contacting the hard soil at first rather than the full 53" of the bucket.
We have LOTS of videos of the toothbar, including a few showing the attachment/removal.
He might want to get some big rocks to make a barrier for that ditch. A fence might require a permit and a guardrail could be years of waiting on the city to get. My neighbor had several vehicles slide into his yard during the winter until he put big rocks next to the street.
Be neat if you had auxiliary hydraulics on rear of tractor and then had a 6’ Kilfer blade for dragging and leveling.
great job Tim, the tiller did it's job. The Geo Thermal had to be a very sizable investment, did he mention if after 10 years it's starting to pay him back?
He said in the video that his bills were less than half of prior bills.

Tim, you've probably discussed before...I'm purchasing a Woods Tiller in a bit. Option of forward or reverse rotation. Will be primarily used in previously cultivated ground but cannot discount virgin ground. My ground is pretty much rock free but may see use where it is rocky. What do you recommend?
Options are good, right!? I personally like the forward tine tiller because it handles rocks better, but many others really like the reverse tine. So, getting one that can be converted, even if it is cumbersome to convert, seems like a reasonable idea.

Hello, I gotta ask you about the Loader Joystick. with it being positioned a bit far out off the front fender, do you get arm fatigue having to keep your arm up all day working the loader? On different brands or model sometimes it's positioned next the arm off the frame but I thought I'd ask you as I'm looking to buy one of these but that Joystick positioning does not seem too well-thought of. Also if you don't mind sharing, what do is your fuel consumption like and would you say it's an efficient little tractor? Thanks so much!

Tim uses a John Deere 1025r for most of his videos. I have a 2025r and it does great so far with normal projects on my 5 acres. It really depends on how you're going to use it. They're expensive, but worth it!
I have a question pertaining to the bucket on your tractor because I can't tell when the bucket is level on the ground. What does you do to tell when it is level on the ground and how can you tell it. That is one problem with the tractors like the John Deere and Kubota brands. I noticed that some tractors have a leveling bar which runs up one side of the bucket and tractor and that is a good feature to have.
Hi Sidney, my loader has a bucket level indicator on the right side.
I do not believe the ‘e’ series comes with this feature which is unfortunate!

Tim, I see you doing a lot of leveling. Have you considered a box blade?
A box blade is the best attachment for moving loose materials but you will get a ton of clumps when trying to move sod and it won’t turn out nearly as good as with the tiller
Can you show us updates months after tilling to level. Just curious if there is a difference in scraping over tilling

After watching you do assorted projects, why do you need a bigger tractor? I'm amazed with the power that Johnny has. And there's a lot of attachments made for sub compact tractors. Don't tell Johnny I called him a sub compact! You could get a canopy or umbrella to keep the heat off you in the summer. Love watching your videos. 😎😎😎🤔🤔🤔
Yea, you are right. Johnny can accomplish most of the work we need to do.
Occasionally, we need a bit more umph, and often we need a '2nd ride' so that we don't have to switch attachments during the job.
Vinny can provide some assistance with the latter need assuming we get a bigger trailer.
The largest reason for a bigger tractor is the ability to demonstrate the differences to everyone on this channel, and to have some variety.

I have a landscaping company and run a Massey Ferguson 2706e. It is a lot bigger then the subcompact. At 58hp and 4000+ lbs, I do the same work as in this video, but quicker.
Primary reason I want/need a larger machine is so that I can lift and move pallets of materials at my job sites. I also remove sidewalks and concrete slabs with it. And with the larger bucket, I can probably move 3 times more material at a time than this size subcompact.

you work your heavy hitch tooth bar pretty heavy. have you ever had yours pop off? mine has come off a couple of times digging up some stubborn roots. maybe i just didn't tighten it down enough....or maybe i'm trying to take too much at one time. nice job on the yard and ditch. thoughts on the tooth bar?
I have not had issue with it coming off. I tighten to probably 50 ft/lbs.

Neighbour asked me to come over and level his back yard, he has a hump in the middle of the yard, it's about 1' raise and about 15' diameter, he's been cutting lawn over it for 20 years so the hump became part of the yard it this year he would like to level it. I was also considering using Tiller to loosen the soil so it's easy to push and scoop, my tractor loader doesn't have the loader with teeth like yours. 25HP Massey Ferguson GC1725M. Tiller may offer good counterweight also.

Yes. Please call Heavy hitch. They will take care of you. There were a small number of toothbars (2-3) which were drilled improperly.
They will be able to verify if yours is one of those.
It WILL NOT come off if made properly.

Tim, I think Tomas is on to something. Instead of a bigger tractor get another 1025R and larger trailer. The implements would be interchangeable, and you wouldn't have to switch implements, just jump on the other tractor.
And also we have a 7 acre pice of land that we are clearing what would be better a small tractor like Jonny or like a 3or4 series?

Did you aid in building Allison transmissions?
Maybe a bit. I worked on software used to organize the control module aoftware. In other words, to make sure the right software package gets delivered to the right transmission.
There are LOTS of things behind the scenes to keep everything going in a large company.

Here's a niche job that you handled well. You stated that you didn't really need this tractor for the size of your lot, but look at all the jobs you have done. Look at Jon Ritter, he did the same thing you did, only with orange. Keeps you out of trouble. Life size hobby? Fulfilling a dream? Got a job that makes a living, and a little breather on the side? Writing software is mind bending job. That's why I trained for the hardware side. The heck with the naysayers.
