- When it comes to ripping and tearing, our John Deere 1025R subcompact tractor is amazingly strong. Tractor Time with Tim was asked to remove an old fence and cleanup the backyard of overgrown bushes for our neighbor Jimmy's sister.

This is the video that sold me on getting a compact tractor. Now I have a 2038R and my own channel
Popped up on my feed today and I just remember being really impressed with what you were able to do with it
Thanks for the kind words. We had a great time on that project!
Just purchased my 1025r today tractor loader backhoe mower and front mount blower thank you for the inspiration and great videos god bless and safe travels from canada
Congratulations!
Nice video. Love to see someone who understands his equipment's limits and has the objective of getting things done FAST. Personally I would not recommend telling anyone to allow rear tires to lift, because there are many inexperienced who will not comprehend what is happening until they are in real trouble. I like the rear counter weighting and your commentaries as you go. Personally I hate removing fences with metal (I have miles of barbed wire fences) for the simple fact that wood and brush can be dried and burned, but the metal portion is always an issue.
Keep up the good work. I feel I'm blessed to know and like you and your family and that you are a good friend and neighbor. I enjoy watching you thrive and am blessed by the verses. You have a great ministry.
Wow, thanks Gene!
I have a 1025R and love it. I have moved everything from snow to dirt to concrete. I was looking at an orange one but went with the John Deere. Very glad I did.
I don't often come up on just the front wheels, but I'm up off the front wheels as often as I'm on four wheels, either pushing a stack of something down with the bucket or pressing dirt and dragging backward with the wheels hanging. You do get where you are very aware of the tractor's balance though and it's not scary at all within its limits.
Those little tractors come in handy. I bought a JD 3038e for my wife for Mother's Day several years ago. My son built a grapple for it a while back. It is really good for cleaning up messes like that. We also found it was good for getting firewood. We just cut the logs up to 14' or so, load them whole on the front of the trailer and after we get a load, put the tractor on the back. Then we can go home, unload the wood, cut it to size while held in the grapple, split it, and stack it.
Yep. Very handy for that, just as you say!
That’s it!! It will be a 1025 or 2025 for us!! I’m impressed!!! Way to go
Shew wee....I've had my 5065e turned up like that...not a fun time...scary!! Looks like a fun job ...enjoyed the video brotha
lol yep won't be hitting the road for a month or so...but looking forward to our visit
The double grapple clamp sure has its advantages. I’m a bit impressed watching you putting Johnny to his limits. Really enjoyed the verse at the end as well. Love your neighbor! Great video and great message.
God bless.
Thanks Jon. We do it a Ritter Bit at a time :-)
Thanks for always demonstrating how amazing that “little” 1025R is. With that grapple it sure does tackle some impressive work..
Thanks Greg!
When I saw Johnny's back wheels up all I could think of was "yeehaw, ride that bull Tim!"
It's great to see a small tractor doing such a big job. Can't wait to see more!!
Anyone who really knows their tractor knows the limits of what they can safely do and learn some tricks for getting the work done
wish i was handy with the kubota B3350 she'll yank it out with no tire lifting
We love our Grapple
Wow! I can’t believe you got the read end to go up!!! Have a good day!
With a grapple it is trivial. It looks like something hugely dangerous and unpredictable, but it really isn’t!
All I had to do is grab something that won’t move, and back up. As long as in 4wd the rear end cones right off the ground.
Always love watching your videos. Looks like you are always having a good time. Thinking of getting me a compact tractor to do jobs like that when I retire from the job I've been on 32 yrs. God bless you.
We have fun. We made a conscious decision to ‘have fun’ a few years ago. Used to be very serious folks, but finally realized that we might as well enjoy life.
this video made me smile, it looks like you were having a lot of fun
That is the desired response! Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's good that you highlighted the axle strain and how it looks tippy (center of gravity is actually lowering, like you implied, due to the fence being stuck to the ground). Something a lot of people forget is that doing that also puts a lot of extra stress on the MFWD system and seals in the axle. The MFWD is really meant to assist with traction, not be the primary source of traction. I believe they also lack a proper differential, which is why you should never drive on dry pavement with it engaged (you COULD damage the system and WILL wear out your front tires faster).
The only reason you're able to lift the back of the tractor off the ground is because the hydraulic limiters only prevent you from lifting too much in normal situations, but when you start backing up, your center of gravity (CoG for short) slowly moves toward the front tires until the drive-train maxes out (which is pretty darn far for these tractors) Once the CoG goes past those front tires is when you severely increase the risk of roll-over.
Anyway, the hydraulics are built so that, while they won't lift more than the tractor is rated for, they won't easily drop when extra weight is added, as a safety measure. The limiter isn't for the hydraulic cylinders, after all, it's for the tractor itself (and possibly the loader frame). A good way to be sure you're not overloading your front axle is to never move forward/backward when your hydraulics are "maxed out" in their lift capacity while the item you're trying to lift is stuck to the ground; doing so just strains the axle until it will eventually break.
The best way to remove the fence, in this case, would have been to lower the loader until it was almost touching the ground, and then backing up. This keeps the rear tires on the ground for more traction, and reduced front axle strain (as mentioned later in the video). Anyway, it's a common mistake; one even veteran operators can make, when operating unfamiliar machinery. It's good to see that you cover most of these points in the video, Tim. These little tractors have so much more power than they do weight that it borders on insanity.
I love the ‘balance’ in these tractors. Like you say, he hydraulics are perfectly balanced with the weight of the tractor until we play tricks like ‘backing up’ while attached to the load with the grapple.
I think the reason the "trick" works is likely because the limiter is before the SCV, near the pump, in the form of a relief valve. So, while the cylinders are capable of more, the relief valve is setup so that it stops before overloading the tractor. When you backup, the hydraulic pressure increases, but it does so on the SCV, not the relief valve. Of course, I'm not an engineer or mechanic, so I'm basing this on assumptions and logic, so don't quote me on that, lol. I can take things apart and put them back together, but if you ask me to name every piece... forget it!
I agree.
Zurar- if you want to know, the designers plan for how much strength they want. In the case of the loader, they determine how much they want the arms to lift. The arms are designed to meet that requirement plus margin, then hydraulic cylinder length and diameter is selected. The max hydraulic pressure is a constant, say 2500 psi. The cylinder diameter determines how much push/pull each can perform. The hydraulic performance or cylinder performance does not change due to tractor direction or how the loader is used.
Tim another great Job by you and Johnny. JImmy looks like he's getting pretty good with Johnny. He seems to be a great guy and I'M sure he's a great neighbour to have. Anyone who thinks these small compact tractors are toys needs to watch this video I really don't think could do what johnny did at this property in an afternoon. Have a great and safe weekend. God Bless!!!
You've had great neighbors in Bob and Jimmy! Something to be very thankful for.
I had a lot of fun watching this one. Thanks for sharing!
Great video guys! For a smaller tractor I can see this stress hurting the tractor if it's an everyday activity. Occasionally....you will be alright!
yup, I'm mental. I've been making money on the weekends with my 1025r mowing and clearing brush and yet i keep returning to this video and watching it and the next to the end. Darn things are diesel powered crack.
Ha! Yea. We have 900+ more episodes. Check em all out to feed that addiction! :-)
Wow! One of the biggest jobs I've watched you guys tackle! Jimmy, you look like a natural! When are you getting your tractor and starting your videos? LOL! Great job! Thanks for sharing! Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend!!!
Thanks for your comment. Part 2 of this project coming up soon.
I really like your Neighbor jimmy. Seems like s solid guy
We are thankful for Jimmy. Turning out to be a great friend!
Great video Tim!! I put my order in today to the finance committee for an Artillion grapple so we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the great videos.
A great start on the yard! That Johnny sure can do alot of work !
The Artillian Grapple adds LOTS of utility.
Hey TTWT glad to see another great video
Nice work!
the best ballast for a small tractor is a 3'6" slasher or brushhog i think its called in the states. mine weighs 400 lbs fits a category 0 3 pt hitch. if you have a cat 1 then could go 4' even heavier. they sit lower and farther back. and my back tires are full of water. the back end will still pop up but not lifting a 2x4 fence. i love that grapple. my tractors too old for that. one day though
good job on finding the best combination of weight on the wheels and traction
I got a westerdrof graple requires no third hydrolic great tool works like a thierd hydralic graple
Tim,
I envy how good of neighbors you have and I am just plain jealous of Johnny...lol
Ha! We thank God for our neighbors. Very nice neighborhood.
As for Johnny, they keep makin more of them :-)
When Johnny went up in the air everything puckered up on me Tim! I do think I would have had my rear counter weights a little lower if it were me though but I know you know what your doing, God bless and stay safe!
Being ‘in the saddle’ makes it sometimes feel much different than watching video.
Nice video tim and Johnny is a little beast in that wood.💪
It is funny how people call small tractors toys. Glad you can really show them otherwise. The size of logs you dumped in the trailer early in the video shocked me. Nice job.
No trouble loading those logs. Very useful.
Tim, wow! I would have never thought Johnny-1 with Gina the Grapple could do that work! Maybe Kubota isn't what I'm looking for.
I was certain i was going orange until I saw the front end loader capacity on Johnny lol
Another great video Tim keep up the good work
Another fine job guys!!!
Thanks for watching, John!
Lol I remember being in a bobcat the all wheel steer version and had a full load of block raising up to scaffold and did the same thing but dropped half the pallet on the ground. It was quite a ride.
Johnny and the grapple are impressive.
Thanks Walter!
A funny episode. Great fun with fun people. Thumbs up.
That is one big yard looking good.
Good job Tim johnny pretty strong thanks
Rip & Tear show them how it's done Tim!!
That was fun to watch
Thanks Annie! That is our goal!!
Great job Tim! I hate it when people don't take care of their yards. I have a neighbor who doesn't do much with his. He brings in logs to split and sell. We both live on 5 acres and it drives me nuts when he now's around a branch instead of picking it up. Someone dropped off logs last year and they are still sitting in yard where the weeds are now 5 feet deep. The outside of his building is green with mildew makes it so lovely to look at. I think everyone should own a tractor, I use mine all the time
Buddy I'm over 65 I know what you are saying, don't preach to me. People who grew up in Florida are lazy, I of course didn't
Johnny is a beast
I love my dump trailer. It sits high for easy dumping without bottoming out
You have me convinced to buy one for my tractor.
I have a grapple for my tractor it is a great investment I use it a lot.
Jimmy joining the TTWT crew? Get him his own Clifford and trailer!
Oh my! $100,000 equipment just for Jimmy!?!? Not sure he is worth it!! Just kidding.
Tim Christi you know how to make Jonny work it great to how to make tractors to its thing
God Bless
PaK
Thanks Peter!
Love that little tractor and grapple
That little tractor did more than i thought it would. U have plenty of hydraulic power
We have enough hydraulic power, but only if used strategically. One has to learn how to drive the tractor in such a way to maximize the utility. It is not a ‘brute force’ tractor.
I like that grapple, cool tool.(-:
I didmt think any of those things! I was like look at the smile on his face
Thanks Gary! It is not easy to get BOTH back wheels off the ground at the same time. Usually the pivoting front axle makes it tip sideways. This was kinda fun!
Yippie aye oh oh ki yay Tim! Ride em' cowboy!
I like to see Johnny struggle and get the job done
Hi Tim and Christy Tim you should take on more work and give Jimmy a job he is a natural
Johnny is a little green beast for real ;-)
That great, really the perfect size for back yards
Yes, it really is a great size. Nimble in those small spaces.
Another job well done!
I don't really freak out when the back wheels come straight off the ground, but that second spot afterward, where it tipped forward and a little to the side? Wooooo-eeee, pardon my French, neighbors!
Also the motor running any length of time could hurt it
You all cleared out all that fence line and had plenty to burn and haul away, but in the end that area will look nice and the new fence can be put up.
That grapple is incredibly handy
That single pivot point can swing and rotate you one way or the other. Keep all the wheels on the ground.
You see exactly this happen at 3:44.
That grapple is awesome for sure. Doing a cat walk with the tractor, well I'm not too sure I would want to be in the seat and do that!!!
Once again, Little Johnny is up for the task. It takes a good operator to get the most out of the machine though.
He always gets’er done!
I am shocked at how much work that little tractor will do.
Didn't know you could do a reverse wheelie!
Need to get Jim properly attired. He needs a TTWT shirt. Your little tractor sings, I think I can, changed to, I know I can.
Tim you need more cheeseburger ballast for grapple work
Frankly not sure that even more ballast would help.
You can lower the center of gravity on Johnny by lowering the three point hitch with those weights.
love your vids
Thanks for watching, Lee!
The yard is looking better already. That would have been a very difficult project by hand.
Yes, lots of work by hand.
We have a Kubota B7200 with a loader bucket on it. We lift the rear wheel in the air like that, for all the bigger they are you can do a lot of work with them.👍
Yep. Very versatile and useful!
@@TractorTimewithTim don't know what I would do without out it
I have a video request for you guys could you please do a equipment review after a year or two of that New Black trailer?
I'm curious to see how she's holding up through the years
Good idea. For a summary, it is great.
Yeah Tim, when you got stuck on that log. I think that's exactly what I did when I took out my auto connect a year ago while brush hogging. When I went to put my mower deck back on it cocked sideways on me
I'm about to join the world of compact tractor ownership. I'm thinking a heavy hitch is going to be among my first purchases after it is delivered
Wise choice!
At 4:12 I’m thinking how fun that looks, lmao if the tractor tips you will at least have fun tipping it😂
hi guys, great video.
Wait till you get a 3 series. You could sell Jimmy Johnny 1 and keep Johnny 3
Nice job.
Can't believe power company hasn't told owners to clear those lines in the trees.
Another great video! I sure am thankful you guys can deal with the comments from the peanut gallery - I’m not sure I could handle it as gracefully.
An overwhelming majority of comments are very kind and helpful. We have a wonderful audience. Of course there is the occasional negative comment. Even then, often it is not intended to be as negative as it reads in written form.
Comments like yours are very helpful and encouraging. Thanks!
You need a chipper shredder for all the brush you clean out
Yes, need a sponsor don't we!?!
If you contact Rural King, and agree to be their spokesperson, maybe they will loan you a few of their tractors and a load of attachments,. They've been know to do that in the past. Heaven knows the way you're working Lil Jonny 😅 you'll need some new equipment sooner or later.
Johnny to the Rescue!!!
Another good job men.
great job. be careful Tim
Thanks Rodney!
Sassy Neighbour becomes Tractor Time with Tim team member. I like that idea, what do you think?
Very thankful to have Jim and family as neighbors!
What kind of insurance do you use to work on someone else's property?
We are insured. I don’t feel comfortable recommending insurance because I don’t really understand it. Hopefully our coverage is sufficient!
Enjoyed this video and Tim, Christy wasn’t the only one laughing when you were on “hobby horse’ Johnny. You’re nice guy to share your toys and let Jimmy have some fun too!
Would be interesting to know if the height of your 3 pt ballast effects your tipping point. I would assume lower would be more helpful but since the weight goes to the same pivot points I wouldn't be sure.
wvumaniac87 keeping it lower will most definitely provide better stability!
That's a weird feeling when that happens. Had that happen once. Steep slopes are a lot more scary though.
Yes, a steep slope with a sudden 'shift' of weight is what causes rollovers.
the newer machines are so much stronger now. mine is a 2006. the hydraulic pumps must be way stronger
Fun ... fun.
Thats funny... when the tractor went up in the air... I was thinking, Tim must be cutting back on those cheeseburgers lol
our 115hp newholland done the same thing
Michael!!!! You disappointed me. You didn’t mention Kubota!
lol the boss at work bought us a wrong tractor a newholland lol plus now we have to replace a $400.00 work light switch, wippers, and back window shocks and have to get the door fix on it wich kinda pain
I've pulled the back tires off the ground on a 6170r. With a grapple. It happens. Hard on parts but, happens.
i never pull back tires off the ground with the kubota 85.4hp m8540 wich she was a strong powerful girl :)
Jim & Tim 👍
It seems odd with your area, and all the utilities going through back and side yards
This is not a compact tractor, it is a SUB compact!
I think a artillian double grapple could have a double purpose . Helping the neighbors .......or scaring the Devil out of them...lol
