    how do you get your weaves to go directly behind your back instead of on your side plane? I feel like my wrist isn't flexible enough but when i do it the pinky led way its much easier so i figure i should be able to go both ways but can't for some reason :/ thanks for the great tutorial by the way!

    Excellent adjunct to REM's tutorial! I am going to change how I perform certain moves, such as the turning 3-beat, to incorporate this grip switch instead of the stupid one I was using. Let's not that it doesn't actually require Russian rings to use a scissor grip ;)

      Honestly... if you can help me figure out a comfortable way to use scissor grip with non Russian grips please do! I just can't get it with my flat grip tech fans! But thank you for the feedback!!! Means a lot coming from you :D

    I love your tutorials! Thank you for spending your time to explain them so nicely! Also, where did you find the fan covers, I'm having a hard time finding a pair for Russian style

      Hi! I'm sorry it took me a little bit to get back to you. I make my own fan covers :)
      I believe REM made a fan cover tutorial

    So the forged creations fire fan from the site you mentioned would be the same size as yours? Any idea how big the ring is? I have two separate interests in fire fans… One is more of the Russian style as I understand it and the type of fans that you're spinning and then the other is the more ornate light pretty for bellydancing… I know I'll end up having to get two separate pairs but the ornate ones are a lot easier to find than the "Russian" style. Thank you so much for the help!
    Your tutorials are extremely helpful I appreciate the time and the detail you give!

      Amber Dunn the ring size is 3.5 inches. If you're wanting something for belly dance then I would definitely recommend Forged Creations over true Russians. The overall size of the fans are hard to just hold straight out for belly dance style moves. They are designed to be spun more continuously.
      Forged Creations Hybrid have the same size ring, slightly smaller fan size, light weight, and super well balanced. You can hold them still and your wrist will thank you :) no need for multiple fans. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty on welds!!!

    i'm new to fans also and am wondering what company makes the best russian style fans. i've had peoplle recommend forged creations because of the high quality and the life-time warranty but i dont know much about Mischa's or Uncle Druulian's customer service or quality and how each company compares to the other. Is there anything you could recommend for someone new to fans?

      @katgay87  7 років тому

      Here are my personal opinions regarding the comparison of the fans you're asking about.
      Forged Creations: If you are new to fans and not sure what style of spinning you will be drawn to, the Hybrid fans are the best of both fluid spinning and tech (meaning more static holding of the fan vs. more constant spinning). The fans offer a slightly larger frame from their other fans but are still small enough for inner arm manipulations. They offer a slight flat grip at the bottom of the ring to help with stopping the fan on the palm but doesn't hinder techniques such as scissor grips like my tutorial. They are super light weight especially in comparison to traditional Russian style fans (your shoulders and wrists may thank you later) and are incredibly balanced. On top of all of that, they absolutely offer lifetime warranties on the welds. So if it breaks... they will fix it.
      Uncle Druulians: I really like these fans because they do offer a metal ring with a grip on the bottom of the ring to help with stopping the fan while spinning. They are traditional russian fans, meaning they are larger in size so doing tech manipulations could become difficult. So if you're new to fans and you're more drawn to Doodle style spinning vs Rem style spinning, these fans will pose a potential problem. However, I have had great conversations with the owner and haven't heard any negative feedback regarding their customer service. If something happens to your fans though, getting them fixed may be difficult.
      Mishas: Honestly, real Mishas are very very difficult to get. He does not directly distribute to the US. I got fortunate because a gentleman worked something out with him where he was getting shipments of 10 fans in at a time, but I don't believe he will be doing that anymore. I love my Mishas, they are wonderfully balanced, they flow easily, and I've dropped them I don't know how many times and they literally bounce off the ground. BUT... people rave about the fact that they have leather grips, while it is nice, if you live in a humid environment or in a situation where there's dew on the ground or in the air, that leather will rip the skin off of your fingers with a fierceness. They also continuously rub blisters. I tape my fingers for this reason with high grade medical waterproof tape (because it's the only one I've found that doesn't disintegrate with the constant friction or have a rough surface that damages the leather). Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade them for the world, but I would not recommend them if you are new to fans and the leather upkeep (and keeping your fingers safe) is work.
      They all absolutely have their qualities and let me re-state that this is my personal opinion and reviews.

    Can somebody give me the specs on the size and what type of fans these are?? I would like to order a pair but not quite sure where and what they are called!

    • @katgay87
      @katgay87  7 років тому

      Amber Dunn these are Misha Fans. they are hard to order in the US. However, I would highly recommend Uncle Druulians if you want this size fan. If you want the same size ring buy smaller tech size fan, get Forged Creations Hybrid fan

    I don't understand how you switch from the one finger grip to the three finger grip behind your back without reversing the direction of your weave

    I understand… I'm still trying to kind of decide what aspect of fire fan spinning is my forte… If I did want to get a true Russian fan though? What site would I go to? I googled uncle druulians and nothing came up… Is that a style of fan on a different site? Would it just to be called a Russian style ? I did find the forged creations site for the Bellydance style. Sorry for all the questions.... I so appreciate the help… You are giving me a wealth of information! :)

    • @katgay87
      @katgay87  7 років тому

      Amber Dunn go on facebook and type in Uncle Druulians Shop. It will pop right up. Inbox them and they respond really quickly and effectively :-) Again, though, Russians are really big fans that are more for spinning with a heavier weight. Forged Creations gives you best of both worlds.

    • @amberdunn8095

      katgay87 I have messaged Uncle Druulians shop but haven't heard anything back. I'm wondering if I'm trying to contact him the wrong way? I just sent him a message through messenger...it's been 4 days. Any other way to contact him?
      I looked again at the hybrid fans you had mentioned on forged creations and was wondering, if you get the same ring size but with a smaller lighter fan then I guess you would be able to do some of the spinning techniques that you do but not all of them? Since the Russian fans are heavier and larger I would assume that they are used for certain moves that you can't do with any other fans?
      Thanks and keep the tutorials coming! :)

    • @katgay87
      @katgay87  7 років тому

      Amber Dunn Hey girl! So the forged creation fans are a little smaller and lighter, however, there really are advantages to that. You can do every russian move out there with their fans, the advantage is since they are a little smaller in size you can do the "American tech" a lot easier. In between the arm moves and negative spacing are much less scary and arm breaking. The weight gives the same kind of advantage. While the weight with Russian fans sort of help with weaves because of the momentum, it is not necessary at all. Forged Creations weight allows for stops and folds without breaking your wrist due to weight.
      The "big russian fans" for some reason gives everyone this myth that it will help them spin russian style better. That is false. It's all in the amount of time you put into practicing.
      I'm not sure why Uncle Druulians isn't responding. I've always had great response time. I would just say go with the hybrids. They truly are the best of both worlds, great customer service, and come with a lifetime warranty on welds. They will also allow you to explore both means of technique to develope your own style.
      If you jump into a large fan immediately, you may find it frustrating. And I don't want you to quit!!!! :-)
      I really hope that helped! Keep in touch!

      Katy, I took your advice and got the Forged Creations hybrid fans! They just came yesterday! I'm so excited, they are beautiful! I've searched online and seen a bunch of tutorials such as yours and Rem's. his seem to follow a build on the basics type program. where would you suggest a new spinner start as far as videos and instruction that builds on each other from the beginning? To get a strong foundation? I'm not able to attend a workshop but would like some sort of a program that builds on the basics instead of just random trick tutorials, at least in the beginning. Maybe you already have videos out there like that and I have just not found them yet? I already spin poi so the flow arts aren't brand new.
      Again, as always, thank you for your time!
      Amber
