Use that laser level you used on the metal panels you were putting up. Might help to give you a straight line to use on the closer wheels for alignment
@@lornecossar4829 So anyone who hires a professional contractor that fails to do their job correctly is at fault not the contractor? Does that seem logical to you? We should all learn to THINK before we speak lest we show our stupidity.
Getting everything dialed in so you get the best outcome from your machinery is more important than people realize. I remember having to do that when I was working and even though I enjoyed the outcome, sometimes it was still a hassle. Great explanations on how you have to take care of the machinery, Cole ! 👍
To use a laser level they will need one that puts out laser lines at a right angle. They can establish the baseline along the head and then shoot the right angle laser across the furrow and closer to make sure they are straight. Personally I would look to build a jig to do it. That would probably be easier than the laser.

Cole you never mentioned anything about the metering unit. Check your brushes inside the disk and the spacers behind the disk to be on spec. I always think it's best to pull the plates off for winter as well.
You're attention too details is extraordinary; and given us those details, is a lesson of crop yields, is affected by maintenance of the equipment you use. Not every farmer is like this. What an amazing young man you are.
The farmers who don't pay attention to small details won't survive. As stated in the introduction, the planter is the most important tool on the farm. With minimum tillage and not I'll, the planter needs to do more. If your corn doesn't emerge within a twenty four hour window, you are losing potential yield. Little things matter!
I live on a farm and everyone knows that you don't want to get a bad reputation in farm country. Your word is your bond, period and it doesn't take long for everyone to know who can be trusted. I'm surprised that the bin site has all these problems and they are not actively working to fix their mistakes cause there goes their reputation. I enjoy your videos. This would make a good video to show students in urban locales how much work goes into planting seeds. I’m a retired math teacher, but would show it on one of the few days when I could, because of certain circumstances which do come up.
Big old fashioned carpenter's T-square made of carefully welded pieces of metal. I'd suggest a pair of caster wheels up on the T end. Should be double-up Coop's skill set.
It would be fun to see a cost breakdown of everything it takes to maintain something like either of the planters. I've never (and likely never will) farmed, so I have no dog in the fight. But it would be neat to see what it takes (maybe even year by year) to keep your gear running in top shape.
I spent time in Japan, we, the foreign staff, asked to see a contract that was of interest. We were given a single sheet of paper in Japanese, when challenged to obtain a translation we were eventually given the following, 'We trust XYZ to give us what we need'. That was the whole contract. To be fair, the supplier did give us what we asked for. What an innocent world that was. Totally built on trust, nothing else required. When questioned about the lack of detail, the Japanese staff said, 'why sign up a contractor who cannot do the job correctly'. We had no answer. Your introduction to the planter did not surprise me, but did fascinate me, so many joints, bushes, and flex points. All of them potentially subject to wear, is your soil more abrasive, are your bearings better or worse shielded, etc. and so on. Slop in pins and bushes can let water and abrasive grains of, e.g. sand, enter the mating surfaces, far more to think about than fuel in the tractor and seed in the hoppers.
I would definitely stay away from any discussion of the law suit, soil tests etc. on UA-cam. Risk of counter suits, deformation law suits only taking more focus off farming. All your UA-cam videos are public domain and be able to use in court.
Cole no need to talk about it. I've done 35 sites with your type of setup and yours is one of the worst constructed I've seen. They hap hazardly put things that are for safety and they literally are falling apart.
You'd think if you spend the money y'all spend on those planters they would provide calibration equipment or at the very least proper ways to dial it in. Your attention to detail is precision agriculture at it's finest.
I'd love one of those hoodies but I prefer the front zipper kind which is difficult to find. Great video as per usual. You and your family brighten my day every time you post a new video. Cole, thank you for having the patience to explain everything to us! It just shows us how real people are involved in every aspect of food/ feed production, not just computers and kids sitting behind a screen! GBY and yours!!
buy a Dewalt (50 to 75 dollars)laser level. It can shoot a vertical line up and on to the floor at the same time that you can line everything up with. Set it up in front of the disc and shoot it towards the back. Willing to bet it puts you on the money or close enough for farming work...lol
The laser idea is good get coop to make a jig to use for alignment. This way you can just move from unit to unit. You can get pointer lasers possibly at an office supply store.
I wonder if the alignment is correct once the planter is unfolded. This could be the case if the outside most part of the planter is slightly further forward than square. Idk. Just a thought.
Laser level for laying tile. Set the planter down then get several. 2 X 4 X 12s and make sure they are perpendicular to the closing wheels and fasten them down to the concrete. This is what the laser level will travel up and down the anchored 2 X 4’s make a cradle for the level to sit in. Mark all the spacing down on the 2 X 4’s for the center lines of the row. Then just slide and no guess work on the spacing of the rows and all the components of the planter. Use it on other implements.
Yeah, as much as you would like to keep your subs posted on the bin site, probably best to just keep mum until it’s all settled. Most of us here, would really like to know the outcome, without risking the results for you. Thanks for the video, Cole!
Get 1x1 or 2x2 that is long enough to reach from that front wheel to your closers. Put a level on the side and center it on the floor. Then take a string with a fish weight that will reach from the closer wheel to the stick and hold it between those wheel like a plumb bob. Then you will know how far you are off.
Don't talk about your lawsuit online, there is no need to discuss it here. Once everything is settled you can talk about it then if you wish, but even then, be careful what you say.
Maybe a laser level? If you can find a way to align it along the length of the planter... ($35 may be only 2 direction, but the more expensive laser level will do all 3 directions) Coming from automotive, I can see so many connections between industrial (manufacturing) and your work! (I'm not manufacturing, but maybe I'm adjacent to it?) Could you set up some jigs to align each of the functions you need to align? Just more thoughts- keep going, this is very cool for all of us. :)
Planter suggestions: the gauge wheel pin should be centered and rotate the pin 180 degrees to put the wear point to an unused spot. Recommended on a kinze planter, should work on yours, same principle. Center your closing wheels by driving on the dirt driveway, better than cement. Kinze and Deere recommend changing disc openers at 14.5 inches. If smaller you will need to reshim the blades but then your firming point will wear faster and you risk damaging your seed tube. When adjusting gauge wheels, pull them up to where they would be while planting and pull away from the blade, then shim accordingly. They should never hang up on the blade. I run Keeton seed firmers. Once the holder is installed, the tongue is easy to replace but not cheap, maybe $35 a row, ouch. Disc openers will wear faster in muddy conditions than in dry, hard ground. This sounds crazy but I have experienced it in my custom planting business. When replacing bushings, new bolts with fine threads might be recommended and tighten them and retorque after using them a day or two. Important to keep them TIGHT. If your gauge wheels wobble, the half wheels might need to be recentered on the bearing. Easy to do. Nothing hard, just boring repetitive work that helps the planter do a top notch job. Good luck.
According to the comments I’ve read, Cole has received advice from law to fixing the planter. Which is nice of people. I know farm equipment does rough work, but has anybody else been kinda surprised at all the problems that occur with the equipment? Is it because it’s just not made well, or is this normal?

So you know what rows were outperforming the others, you should consider studying the specs of these rows and try to replicate those in the other less preforming rows. What may make the difference may not necessarily be ‘in spec’
I Asked you 2 times to get your Tire Guy to get in touch with Logger Wade and Dirt Perfect !! I'm Unsubscribing !!! After over 3 years watching you !!!
I have a Honda CR-V. Right before it's first recommended major tuneup it was running just incredibly. It was getting over 30 mpg. It was awesome. Then they fixed it. I've gotten about 21mpg since. Sometimes out of spec can be better. Save those old parts for at least a season until you know for sure what's what in your metrics.
As a retired mechanic, the loss of 10 mpg makes me think that your "recommended major tuneup" involved a timing belt replacement, I would have a mechanic inspect the belt to see if the cam timing is off by one tooth or the tension on the belt is loose, making the cam be retarded in relation to the spark. There's no way a cars gas mileage should be that much lower after a tuneup.
I went through a personal injury lawsuit, a chemical company dumped a whole railroad tank car of sulfuric acid out on the ground. DO NOT say a word about your lawsuit until it is settled. Im sure he will advise you to let him do all the talking until it is settled.
::PLANTER ADJUSTMENTS- buy a multi line laser with 90 degree option, snap a line on the floor along the planter and set the laser behind with 2 lines at 90 degrees !

60 foot lumber jig, Set disc down on it to make your reference marks. Move jig back to your closers and center closers to the marks. Work smarter..not harder....lol.

TOOL TO USE TO FIND CENTER OF CLOSING WHEELS, Take two pieces of flat metal maybe 1/8 inch thick, Like two yard sticks. bolt them together, make sure they are long enough to reach from the Disk opener to the closing wheels Clamp the Disk opener between the two pieces of metal . The line formed my the two pieces of metal now gives you a reference line that is the center of the furrow . You now can work on the closing wheels to make them in the center of the furrow

C'mon Cole ,still too much Yackety Yack!! and Arm Waving! show us doing Farming thank you
Probably be wise to not even mention the lawsuit at all until resolved.
I went through a personal injury lawsuit, a chemical company dumped a whole railroad tank car of sulfuric acid out on the ground. DO NOT say a word about your lawsuit until it is settled. My injury happened on the job and I said a few things to guys at work, which came back to bite me. If you have any doubts, ask your attorney. Im sure he will advise you to let him do all the talking until it is settled.
::PLANTER ADJUSTMENTS- buy a multi line laser with 90 degree option, snap a line on the floor along the planter and set the laser behind with 2 lines at 90 degrees !
Ignore the haters man. I watch quite a few farming channels. None break it down like you. You get into the dollars and cents of it. Not just We PiCk CrOpS, MaKe MoNeY. Learned a lot from you, keep it up.
GD&T!!!!!
Geometric Displacement and Tolerancing. More specific... Stacked tolerances. You are looking at a basket ball hoop! How do you make it a perfect 10 foot over and over again? GD&T is how!
Love the vid always interesting your thoughts on Financials and a young guy going at farming! But Voice volume is here >>> music is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks for the vid as always Have a great day!
You dont talk about Current Legal Lawsuits especially online until AFTER everything has been sorted out & settled. Protect yourself against possible counter Lawsuits of Defamation & Slander.
Exactly. You just want to be made even, give me what was promised basically.
When you’ve filed a lawsuit the best thing to do is keep quiet. It’s best for you. Remember the old WWII saying_loose lips sink ships.
Perfection gives you the best chance, but not always the best result. 1000 dollar investment may give you a 1050 return, but a 500 dollar investment give you a 650 return. All a gamble. Each his own.
The rickety/shaky/unsafe walkways and railings and stairs on the bin roof should be condemned.
yeah, no thanks. a youtuber farmer, who baits for thumbnails?
we will, we will do. we will. yeah sure. your mechanics will do that
Those naps are essential for a long and healthy life.
6thGen Farmer just went over the same exact issue with bushing & while expanding in a JD planter. He switched to a fixed bushing. Took a lot of hours to change each row. So, it’s a cross color problem for the engineers to work on
Sounds like planned obsoletes from the tractor manufacturers. ....makes more money on parts.
60 foot lumber jig, Set disc down on it to make your reference marks. Move jig back to your closers and center closers to the marks. Work smarter..not harder....lol.
Who knew all the things that go into running a successful farm ? I somehow think you have a touch of OCD- which is not a bad thing... but could tend to make you "crazy" / worry.
Anyone else notice the amount of ads for this video?
DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT. you could jeopardize your case
To bad you couldn't have your field ex- rayed for Rocks. That destroys blade on your planter.
Do not discuss your lawsuit until you have a summary judgment period no if ands or buts. Unless you want to make lawyer's job harder.
To those that wish to know as to whether Neva and Cole are married, well neither has posted wedding photos or picture from the wedding and I do believe that both would as it would be a joyeous occasion., As to a child, well same thing SO all the scandal-mongers out there PLEASE make sure you have your facts correct or Cole and/or Neva may find they actually have to consider legal action to quiten misleading commentors from spreading malicious lies abouit these two happy people who are just living the best life they can for the moment. Remember JEALOUSY and ENVY are a nasty, nasty thing to have or suffer from, it is self-defeating afflliction!
Batteries stopped you from staying warm??? That could be very costly,,..
I remember the happiness about building the new granary,,. In your video's,, I also remember you having problems slowing you down,
Something to do with a dumping station motor, also the auger in the bottom of the silos,,mmm?
I don't think it worked probably from the beginning??.
Happiness does not continue or enjoyed.
Perhaps it was all to do with engineering and warranty..
In the farming industry something like this could mess up your schedule and horrifically,,
The old system probably work better lol.
Thanks for keeping us posted,, I'd like to hear the outcome of this tragedy..
Thanks from Vietnam
Presision Planting Solutions they sell parallel linkage arm kits that work great to eliminate the wear on the arms at all GREAT PEOPLE!!
I’m pretty sure pieces of handrail falling off of the terrifying catwalk already, a place not even Evel Kienevel would dare to walk should suffice as being built improperly. But, I agree with everyone else. Don’t discuss your lawsuit with anyone outside of your family. Could come back to bite you
I am really enjoying watching your channel and I am learning so much. Do you have a airport close by? That would give you enough concrete flat surface.
I just think you are being to picky with stuff, there are so many variables with the ground, thats why they wear differently. stuff just don't wear the same. like i say depends on the ground...going to cost you more in the end by replacing what doesn't needs replaced, nothing works 100%...it the law of the universe.
not sure but could you use a laser to line up the closing wheels? I may be way off but thought I might mention it. take care and love the videos!!
Glad that you have filed a lawsuit. I think that you are justifiable but do not talk about it on UA-cam/ Facebook or any public medium. Keep it to yourself until you win and then talk sparingly.
Yes, Keep monologue going about your wonderful life as a farmer, and let your faith in Our Creator take care of the ugly stuff, That would raise your character immensely. Whether your right or wrong, that's best left private.
Laser levelers might give y’all the straight line you need to adjust the closing wheels.
I pray you guys have your biggest harvest yet this year. It's good to know about the lawsuit, but I wouldn't wander too far into it publicly. That's what lawyers are for. God bless you all.
It might be interesting to compare your notes for parts/issues for each row relative to the yield mapping you did.
Cole, I think all the viewers are worried about the stability of that catwalk and railing system atop the bins that you all need to use. Judging by DCS interaction it's not even common sense approved. Stay safe.
You are right to wait!!!!! They were really screwed the pooch! Now it's time to let the lawyers take the reigns. So glad you are holding them accountable too!
