Abandoned Excavator left in woods for 16 years- Will it start ??

  • An old excavator broke down 16 years ago and was abandoned in the middle of a trail on a steep slope in my neighbors forest.
My neighbor wanted it out of the way so he can use the trail again, he said I can have the excavator for scrap metal so I went to investigate.

Local laws on abandonment govern legal aspects. Common sense says after so many years no one is claiming an ownership right. Morally he is under no obligation to research its ancient history to find someone who either doesn't know or doesn't care about the digger to suddenly begin to think they are entitled to the fruits of his labor.

Took an old farm truck setting for 20 years and stuck motor , Pored WD 40 oil in each cylinder and down the carb, the old tires with tubes came to life all pump up and never leak back down, Remove all the snake skins and clean out the cab and ever flew days try to turn the engine,
Used a coat hanger to rack out the old oil and poird diesel in the engine to help flush out the old oil , one day the engine turn free and with the carb clean out new plugs, points elect fuel pump . oil filter and battery the old flat head ford truck came to life
      .
It smoke like a old frate train at first but over time it got to the point of jumping to life as soon at the started button was push, kelp it for a few years just moving it a round the yard using the hand brake
Only used WD 40 because NAPA had a gallon, I was thanking it was a light oil that could possible slip past the rings and rust to free up the engine and it did no one ever believe it would ever run but after 2- 3 mounts it did

Hey, this kinda of stuff DOES occasionally happen! People abandon and toss a lot of equipment and gear over minor issues, especially people who have more money than they do patience.
My sister sold me a classic VW Super-beetle for a pittance, because she had spent $800 at a brand name shop on the brakes and they still failed on her. I found a pin hole in the brake line that ran through the floor board, repaired it, and, SNAP, problem solved.
My brother gave me a one year old $600 tablet because it would no longer hold a charge. I reflowed the solder on the charging port, and, voilà, it works.

The older a machine is, generally, the easier it is to get running again. It's usually the electronics that prevent it from starting. Did something similar with an old diesel engine in a long abandoned saw mill on the estate i used to work on. Thing hadn't run in 30 or 40 years easily, but had been well sealed from the elements so water hadn't gotten into the engine. Changed the oil, removed the fuel feed and put into a 5 gallon fuel drum, changed all the filters over etc, warmed up the block with a few blow torches and she started relatively easily. (Wasnt quite as easy as that, but it was by no means difficult). Older engines, being mostly mechanical rather than electrical, are mich easier to get going, and much more resilient if left for a long time.

This thing works perfectly after 16 years of resting in the open wilderness, enduring icy frost, snow and certainly heavy rainfall. Unbelievable. What about the "mechanical issues" for which the previous owner abandoned the machine? When he left it in the woods, it must have been in a much better state or working condition, but he had run into difficulties. Now comes along Marty T, obviously some modern sort of Mc Gyver, and the machine purrs like a cat. And everything works fine, he can start clearing the path right away as if this excavator had never been off duty.

Bait Tags is why. Since many Yt channels will use off label tagging. So the YT algorithm *thinks* you like puppies when you checked out car videos. Cause someone put Puppies in their YT tag at one point. Plus their AI is trying to also profile people. Yeah- no Gov't involvement.. Surely is! Cause if you stuck with lets say Antifa stuff, ignored seemingly 'other' topics. Went to bomb videos instead. The Ai tries to mix you up and you dont go for it. You start to reinforce a true profile then. This is where out of other social medias as well. Starts to ping you to a watch list.[They get big Gov't money for this] They then distract you with news on how FB violated your privacy etc. Then zucker is in a federal hearing and FB gives the illusion after 'they got scared'. That you now have extra 'settings' for your privacy. Lowering the guard of people to create a much better profile. As you read in your YT TOS. They full co-operate with Law Enforcement.

Andrew Cogger no doubt, the problem the Democrats have and this is purely in my not so humble opinion is that they’ve allowed their party to be hi-jacked by people who expend a disproportionate amount of their energy advocating for a vanishingly small proportion of the population rather than appealing to the interests and needs of the centrist and conservative leaning democrat and independent voter base needed to secure a win.
I’m all for some amount of progressiveness but when you approach the podium and start yammering about about trans issues, gender fluidity, and myriad other things that aren’t really germane to the day to day lives of or the things that do or don’t put food on/off the tables of working class Democrats you’ve alienated the crossover base you need to secure a win.
Trump is a train wreck, but for as big a train wreck as he is the left is in an even worse shambles; you can literally watch them eating their own. They’re painfully arrogant and completely tone deaf. They openly denigrate people of faith or at best pander half-heartedly to their faith in a way that imho doesn’t pass the sniff test. I say this being a solidly atheist person. That said I’m an atheist that also fully appreciates that I’m in a cultural minority outside of urban enclaves like San Francisco or New York etc. Unless the Democrats pull themselves back towards the center we’re likely to get another four years of Emperor Hirocheetoh, mark my words.

@Dux Herbert Don't blame the electronics, blame designed obsolescence.
I've got a tonne of computer parts from the early to late 90s that nearly all work with the right maintenance applied (eg. recapping boards and the like) along with the many videos showing old electronics from the 70s/80s/90s being restored from horrid conditions (I can think of at least one that was outside longer than this excavator and restored to near new condition) that make it clear that electronics can be hardy as fuck, it's just that most manufacturers realised that it's both cheaper and more profitable for them to design products that start to fail quickly.
