  • Here I am showing you how to make a lovely vintage edging from the DMC Book called "Tatting", edited by Thérèse de Dillmont - one of my favourite vintage tatting publications.
    This beautiful book is now out of copyright and an online version of it can be found here:
    www2.cs.arizon...
    THE PATTERN:
    R2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 (9 picots), rw
    C3-(long picot)4, TR6, 3, TR6, 3, TR6, 4-(long picot) 3, lock join to 5th picot of ring, dnrw
    *C4, rw
    R2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 (9 picots), rw
    C3+4, TR6, 3, TR6, 3, TR6, 4-(long picot) 3, lock join to 5th picot of ring, dnrw
    Repeat from *
    TO TURN THE CORNER:
    On the repeat just before the corner, when working the chain with TRs do:
    C3+4, TR6, 3, TR6, 3, TR6, 4-(very short picot) 3, lock join to 5th picot of ring, dnrw
    C1, rw
    R2+2+2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 (9 picots), rw
    R3+(to short picot of chain)3-2-2-3-3, dnrw
    C3+(to last picot of corner ring)4, TR6, 3, TR6, 3, TR6, 4-(long picot) 3, lock join to 5th picot of ring, dnrw
    Repeat from * above to continue straight side
    I am using size 20 Lizbeth thread and shuttles are my own. If you are interested, I regularly have some for sale in my Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/lacossette

    What a joy to see a lengthy video from you! I never tire watching, learning and tatting along. It is funny, when you mentioned the shuttle swinging and how to solve it if it bothers us, I was thinking…the shuttle swinging like that would bug me to no end. Lol
    You do beautiful work and demonstrate so nicely.
    I will now download the book! Thank you, Joëlle! xx

      Hello Maria, always lovely to read your comments! I don't often use the watch strap trick as I tend to just ignore the other shuttle and just concentrate on my stitches but for some reason, I was suddenly very aware of it in the video which caused me to mention the trick. Glad you enjoyed the video and the book is wonderful. Well worth having in one's library! :-)

    Love your work and demonstration of Tatting. Without your help I would probably never know about the little measurement markers (gauges). I don't have to use them all of the time now, but it sure helps. Thank you for showing how you create these stitches and beautiful lace.

    You are such a joy to watch for tatting tutorials. Do you have a video showing how you would attach this to a hanky edge after you have it all tatted? Thank you for taking the time to do up all these videos that you do.

    could you a whole beginner segement which not only includes chains, picots, but the other stitches, and then round it off a 'tat-along' so people who have followed the videos can do a design with you? I've literally just picked up tatting after struglging to find a video tutorial that makes sense [thanks to you, i've been able to make my first lot of double stitches!]

    In the directions of making the corner, it. doesn't say to where you join the picots of the large (9 picots) ring. Do you join them to the previous large ring?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  2 роки тому

      Hello, yes, you join the first two picots of the large ring to the matching picots on the previous large ring.

    Frivole, what kind of shuttles do you use that make that ratchett sound? Where can I get them?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  2 роки тому

      Hi Tina, I didn't think either of the shuttles I'm using in this video makes much of a ratchet sound? I use nearly always modified Aeros (but one of the ones in this video is an Aerlit). I modify and decorate the shuttles I use in my videos. You can of course, do it yourself but I also regularly have some for sale in my Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/lacossette).

    What is the difference between a join and a lock join. When is each one used?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Sheri, a regular join is made with two shuttles and moves with the other stitches (it slides on the core thread) whereas a lock join is made with one shuttle only and doesn't move, it "locks" the thread into place.

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  Рік тому

      Hello, do you mean you are having trouble closing the Josephine Knots? They can be difficult to close it is true, they are fiddly as they are very small. It's easier if you do not make your stitches too tight and close your ring by pulling towards the left rather than downwards.

      Hi again, I just realised the small rings are not Josephine Knots as I said in my first reply but just small rings of 6 stitches. The same applies for closing them though! :-)

    Can you also make a video on how to make a collar from this edging?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Nany, I find this edging quite narrow for a collar... or do you mean to edge a collar? I would be easy to modify and make it curve by making the chain 4 between elements shorter (and maybe the picot between elements a bit longer). Depending on how steep you need it to curve, you could make it only 3 or 2 stitches. It would just require a bit of testing.
