    An immortal song - that says it all. I once had the pleasure of having a long chat with Mr. Malcon Duncan. I have seldom met such a personable person in the music scene. It was a pleasure for me. Unfortunately he died much too early. We had almost the same serial number for the tenor - which made us smile ...

    I remember this song’s written tenor solo is what got me to learn altissimo g as my first altissimo note. From there I just progressed upward and now I can play a full scale up to double altissimo f#.

    Hi Jamie. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the long notes in the head. I always want to play them with some colour, like vibrato, a slight sforzando, or maybe a bit bend in the middle giving perhaps a bluesy feel. I re-listened to the original but don't hear anything, but I think you are putting some vibrato there.

    • @GetYourSaxTogether
      @GetYourSaxTogether  Рік тому +1

      I never really gave that much thought, but yeh, they do sound straight on the original don’t they?

  • @FunkOsax
    @FunkOsax 6 місяців тому +1

    I don't know if you'll see this question so long after the video was first uploaded but here goes.
    On the accented Bb - for tenor - the horns are doing a sort of shake with a slight fall. How is the shake effect done? I'm getting somewhere near it by using bis Bb and sort of trilling with side Bb
    Thanks

    Hey Jamie,
    I just had a couple of questions:
    Do your top front teeth still become sensitive even with the mouthpiece patches? After 40 minutes or so I seem to have this issue and have tried applying different pressure / angles. Also i'm not sure also how often to change the pads as I just wash my mouthpiece every time I play if I can to keep it as clean as possible.
    Just had one other question - do you by any chance know any good books or online PDF sheets which contain a variety of sheet music to gradually progress on? If you can eventually create one i'll be the first to subscribe / purchase lol!
    Thanks for another great in-depth tutorial.

    • @GetYourSaxTogether
      @GetYourSaxTogether  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t get sore teeth, no. Make sure you’re not biting down at all. I just change the patch when it kinda degraded at the sides etc. Not sure about those PDFs, but in the future I’m gonna have a membership site.

Re the band on this one, you met Shawn Lee and chatted for a while when you came to see me do that disco gig in east London that time, when we were all dressed up. Why is a C on a saxaphone Eflat on a piano, why are all the notes on a saxaphone actually a minor 3rd away from the actual note?

    • @GetYourSaxTogether
      @GetYourSaxTogether  Рік тому +1

      Alto and baritone are Eb transposing instruments, while soprano and tenor saxophones are Bb transposing instruments. The physics of the conical bore is complex, but the beauty of the design is that the fingerings are the same on all saxophones.
