They never intended to deliver. 30 years ago, Labour or Tory governments sent illegals migrants packing and immigration although a problem was a small one and controlled. Under Blair amd NU-Labour the sovereignty of Parliament was dismantled in favour of other “authorities”,domestic and foreign. But if Parliament is no longer sovereign we are no longer a democracy….it is as stark as that. As the Dutch have now seen, their little country, quite overwhelmed by migrants from all over the world, had to ask the permission of a panel of non Dutch people in the EU for “permission” to partly close their borders. Permission. And Permission was denied. Could this be any starker or clearer?

@@SubjectiveFunny Well, I must admit, that's a difficult question, and I don't know the answer. One problem is, people are forced to vote tactically by our unfair electoral system, to "get rid of the Tories", say, rather than voting for what we believe in. Since Thatcher, I believed I detested the Conservatives, and have never voted for them, but frankly Labour make my flesh crawl. Eventually however, I grew to admire Boris Johnson for getting us out of Europe against enormous opposition from within his party, and exposing the hypocrisy of his opponents. He was surrounded by resentful traitors, and effectively crippled by the covid epidemic. He came near some birthday cake on his birthday, and that was the last straw, apparently.

Like them or not, the folks behind the naming and branding of the Reform party have pulled a masterstroke. Everytime a politician (from the other parties) says "that's why we need Reform" they're literally advertising for the Reform party by keeping the brand front & centre of peoples minds. By naming the reform party after a key & often used term in the political realm, the team behind Reform's naming/branding have literally bypassed the biggest barrier to new parties (lack of brand recognition) so that every call for political reform pings their party name in peoples minds. All politics aside, this is bloody brilliant marketing!

      It's about huge energy prices
It's about food price gauging where Tesco's make a £2billion profit
It's about net zero spending that will lead to higher tax and cost business and the public billions.
It's about 3m kids living in poverty
It's about the insanity of giving £billions away to foreign countries of pausing that and spending that on our elderly, our disabled, our hospices....

The long & short of this debate is this: Jenrick sounds like a wet & disingenuous George Osborne tribute act who would take free tickets to watch a teenage popstar so he can be down as cool with his kids schoolmates. By comparison, Kemi sounds like the 'take no prisoners' new headteacher coming into an underperforming school and raising the bar on all the staff at her first all staff meeting. Her ability to think very fast on her feet and take control of tricky questions to deliver nuanced, technically well structured and cogent arguments in everyday language is astounding. Imagine either of these at a G8 meeting in conversation with presidents and ministers from other countries... Who would you bet on to be able to think on their feet vs rehashing pre-scripted lines. On the basis of the two presentations, the question pretty much answers itself!

Would the British Tories pick a charismatic right-wing ideologue who might not unite the party? Or, would they instead pick a British-raised white male who has English as his mother tongue and is more palatable to centrists within the Tory party?
If they pick a true right-winger, the votes might go to the Lib Dems. If they pick someone not right-wing enough, the Reform voters will not return.
These are the issues or rather, the dilemma.

The majority of the country now wants mass deportations. The only way the Tories get back in power is if they promise this.

@@suecharnock9369 Badenoch’s campaign on right wing issues like transsexualism, immigration and lower taxes. It is hard not to label her as a right wing ideologue. Her stance not to quit the ECHR might have to do with the fact this is the main theme of her opponent’s campaign.

@@yeehimwong8810 I thought she came across well and seemed to be quite logical in her approach to some of the questions posed. She is obviously a smart lady and seems to have a backbone too which many politicians don’t have.
