Awesome idea. Thanks Melissa and Amber for showing us how to save a little money 💰 ❤😊❤
I am so glad you like the idea! These little mats have come in handy for all sorts of projects for both my husband and I as we do different household projects. And at $1.25 I don't have to be as concerned about my glue gun or blades messing them up!
Thank YOU for the idea, Amber! I have learned so many things in my comments section! 🥰💕😍
Thank you! I recently picked up 2. I yelled out loud when the shark popped up. You are so fun! Lol
Blessings
LOL, I'm glad you like my funnies, Jane! Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait to see some of those new quilt as you go tutorials.
Thanks for watching, Anna! I'm looking forward to these new projects!
The plastic flexible chopping mats work too. Too thin for rotary cutting, but for tracing around it works great. They are pretty transparent, so tracing onto the mats is easy. And you get two/pack. Just picked some up on Monday and put them to use yesterday.
I'm definitely going back for those cutting boards. Thanks for watching, Lacy Alex!
Great idea.
Amber is a smart cookie! Thanks for watching, Lawayne!
So clever! I'll give it a try. Be blessed.
Thanks for watching, Gerry!
Great idea! Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for watching, Linda!
Use temporary adhesive to attach the paper to the cutting mat and then cut on the lines. I've also used the semi-transparent cutting boards from Dollar Tree and cut two and used rubber cement to stick them together to make them thicker.
Thanks for watching and leaving a great tip, Pat.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing. 😊🌹🍁
Hi Sheila, thanks for watching and commenting! 🥰😍💕🌺
I guess there’s a trip to Dollar Tree in my future.
Right! Thanks for watching, Diann!
Great idea! Templates are so expensive. My husband has made templates for me out of acrylic from a hardware store. They are really strong and don't bend.
I am thinking of getting a laser cutter to make my own templates. I am a bit of a tool junkie. Thanks for watching, Wanda!
Trace it on the back of the mat. It will show better than on the front with all the lines.
That is such a great idea, Lynn! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Sometimes you need templates for applique and also for quilting motifs. If you use them a lot you need something that won't get the edge destroyed tracing on it like cardboard does. This would help and of course the cutting mats. I have never found those at Dollar Tree. These I have seen.
Hi Deb, thanks for watching. I'm going back for those cutting boards. Seems like a lot of people like them.
If you use tissue paper, also available at the dollar store, to trace your pattern, the ink will bleed through better.
What a great idea, Auntie! Thanks for watching!
This interesting, Melissa. But could you trace the shape needed on the back of the mat? That way you can see it better without all those fussy white ruler lines on the front? Feb. 5, 2024. The problem with going to the Dollar store is all those dollar snacks. Marion in Oregon. Oohhh nuts, ooohhhh red licorice. And Yardley lavender soap (not a snack). 🤗
LOL, Thanks for making me chuckle, Marion! Yes, you can use the back of the mat, it doesn't have a smooth finish though, it is a flat finish (mat). The front side is smooth and a bit shiny. Use whichever side is easier for you. I do love a well stocked Dollar Tree! 🥰😂😘😍
Great idea but I don’t live in the US. Don’t think I could get any like it in the UK
Hmmmm, I did some digging and apparently your Pound shops don't carry craft supplies. I also looked at Tesco. Have you tried Ali Express or Temu? They have them for cheap! If shipping wasn't so expensive I'd send you some.
Thanks for watching, Sue!
I love this idea but our dollar trees have never carried these. I can’t even find them to order.
I'm sorry to hear that, Karen. I think each store can pick its own inventory and sometimes they leave the craft section out. Maybe ask them to get the craft supplies. They might do it if enough customers ask. Thanks for watching.
I don't think that is the cutting mat that she was talking about. Go into the kitchen dept and get those cutting mats. They are clear.
She specifically mentioned these. I can check the kitchen area also next time I'm in town. If they are the ones I'm thinking of they may be too brittle to cut. Thanks for watching, Constance!
Also the plastic placements work great for templates.
