This is a short clip on how to set up the pitch correct software in Cubase 5 to sound like the autune t-pain style setting. and also shows you how to control the vocals with MIDI. Enjoy!

Tutorial is the best on youtube, because everybody wants to run and go purchase auto tune as a plug in to add to Cubase because they can't work the one the Cubase offers for free! So this is thumbs up .....thanks for the share!

Thanks for the tutorial! The only problem is I've never been able to find out how to make SFX active in real-time like you just did; I can only hear the effect when applied to an already recorded piece of audio. I want to be able to hear it as I speak in real-time
@TheAcholi yup, double click the audio recording wave. Then there is a "Vari-audio" tab on the left. Click the arrow to the right of the vari-audio tab. It should then show you the notes. It might say something like "do you want to do this?" or something but your good. And then you can select each note and move it.

@Bougatof Reverb A and B are in a separate folder from the install. Its a legacy plug-in (older) and we included in older versions of cubase. It was in a folder on the cubase 5 install disc..

@niiXy Its a "Legacy" plugin. Its on the install disc. Open the disc or right click and "Explore" You should find a folder called "Legacy plugins" or something like that. Just copy and paste those folders into your "VST folder" under your C drive.

@RisingMetalDemon in the track there is a little tiny speaker icon you need to press its called the "Monitor" button. Its right next to the record enable button on the track

@craydiss you'll need some good monitors. And yeah, the more ram the better. I run 4GB's and its been fine for me! just make sure you get the fastest processor you can afford. Speed of the memory and speed of processor are key! And get a silent rig (Noiseless PC or MAC), less fan noise bleeds into the mics... I wish I knew that before I built my rig... I've been trying to go as cheap as possible until I know for sure what I need. Good luck and keep it up!
Is that someone could help me: jai cubase artist 8.5 and correct pitch among others, but impossible to use this kind of insert effect during recording latency voice. I see on the video that there is no latency, the rendering is top. what is the solution?

Great video !!!! but a minor correction autotune should be applied before the compressor the auto tune should be the first insert effect .

@VideoPropaganda36 Thanks! There is a "MIDI keyboard" under the "Transport" menu at the top. Or right click the transport bar and select it from the drop down menu. then you should be able to use the computer keyboard letters. Peace!

@fuad61 I beleive I showed how in this video. You just record your vocals and then record the midi notes you trigger and its done! You can make adjustments to the notes in the midi editor and you can just leave it or export it to another track to save resources.

@thorn689 You can draw in notes in the midi editor. Just use the pencil tool to draw an "event" in the sequencer window. then just pencil in the notes you want to use like programming drum patterns. Enjoy!
In the first step my dynamics tab doesn't have the compressor option....I actually have about half the options he has when you click on the inserts to get there...is there another way?

You can work it without the compressor if you want. But on the cubase install disc, locate the legacy plugins. Copy all of them to your "VST folder" on your C drive.
@SosSifou Yeah, to get the same effect in FL you would have to use another Pitch correction software... The vocoder is similar but not exactly the same... A vocoder is a vocal take that is fed into a synth and you get the mixed sound of vocals and synth. a Pitch correction is vocals and vocals only... Peace!
@Carictica Any one of the three will work, you can just fiddle with the "mix" fader or knob and get a close enough sound. I believe the reverbA is included on the install DVD number 1. you have to explore the DVD and look for them and copy them over to your "VST plugins" folder. Peace!
Its on the install disc in one of the additional folders. Its an old reverb from the older version of cubase. Just find it and copy it over to your VST folder on your hard drive. :)
do you need a midi key board to use the external vocal or could you just use your pc's key board?
I can't figure out how to get my mic to display in the pitch correction plug-in, like when you talk and it makes the little waves and auto-tunes you in real time. any ideas?
I run my mic through a Line 6 Tone Port and the Gearbox application into Cubase

@craydiss I have used pro tools, but only the LE edition which comes with a audio interface. In my opinion it was ok. Pro tools LE or M-powered doesnt even compair to Pro tools HD. The Le or M-powered version has a few limitations compaired to the HD... But the HD version isnt cheap to setup... Cubase 5 I think offers a bunch of stuff for the money!!!

@craydiss Cubase is awesome for vocals! To be honest though, it all depends on what your putting into it. If you use a good preamp and good converters (Audio interface) then you will get a great sound. Cubase is just the program that collects the data and allows you to edit the performance in some ways. Pitch, time, and of course you can apply all sorts of effects and processing to each vocal take. If you buy it online you should buy through my link in the discription, It helps me out! :-)
@lossor yup, you might just have a slight delay from when you talk till you hear it...

hey man, how can you hear sound (effect) while not recording? because when I talk into the mic the autotune effect doesn't happen until i press the record button. And nothing is coming out of my speaker

you can use "asio for all" for low latency workflow!

@Rich7714 You can monitor it real time, but there is a wicked delay due to the processing it needs... There is a small speaker icon in the track window. its right next to the Record button on the track your vocal correcting. :-)

@lynnCJones ??? Cant find the presets you created? I have no idea where you put them... If you are looking for the presets that came with cubase, try looking in the stienberg folder on your C drive. Should be in there somewhere...

i am using cubase le 8 , but it do not have pitch correction in it ?

Mankush Sharma Cibase le dont have pitch correction because its not the full version. I use to have cubase le but it doesn't offer everything pro does. Its more like a trial version if u ask me. It's best if you get cubase pro. It cost more but well worth it. I have cubase pro 9 & its awesome. I still check out all the tutorials becauss i still learn alot from studying them all.
@SEANTAYLOR102 on the compressor that you open there is a "make up" volume knob. make sure the little button under it is highlighted and then turn it up. That will increase the volume of your vocal. PEACE!

@craydiss to be honest, its all a matter of what your lookinig to do. Pro tools is great but rather expensize to get into. (pro tools HD is the best but costs a butt load to get set up) Logic is good actually! But only runs on a mac... I suggest you try a few of them first before you jump on one. Cubase 5 has a demo version you can try for a while and most other DAWS do the same. I like cubase 5 because it has all the features I need and doesnt require a hardware unit like pro tools does. Peace!

@inker92deluxe "reverb a" It came with cubase 5 but you have to find it on the install disc and drag it over to your VST folder. It doesnt install it by default. Its a legacy VST. (older) But like you said, simple!
can you use the effects life so the effect will be used while you are talking
@ashmerlin Thanks! Its great to use on guitar too you know. You can correct that one note that was not quite pulled up to the next note during a solo. There is also the Vari-Audio function which works easier for guitar parts. You double click on the audio file, and select the Vari-Audio tab on the left. Then select the note you see that doesn't jive and put it in tune by dragging it up or down. :) Cheers mate!
