  • DIY Cube Hammock for Ferrets, Rats and other Small Pets.
    My ferrets love this cube hammock. As soon as I hung it in their cage they got in it and went to sleep. It’s not as hard to make as it looks like. You will need the following materials:
    - sewing machine
    - scissors
    - thread
    - pins
    - ruler
    - 6 pieces of batting or fusible interfacing cut into squares (my squares were 11” x 11”)
    - 6 pieces of Fleece cut into a squares (my squares were 12” x 12”)
    - 6 pieces of Cotton cut into squares (my squares were 12” x 12”)
    - 4 straps or grommets. I used extra fleece as straps (my straps measured 10” L x 1”W)
    - 4 hooks
    The cube hammock is so soft and your ferrets, ferrets or other small pets can also sleep in the top of it. So in a way it has two spots for sleeping!

    I have made many of these. They are a bit more difficult than hammocks but they love them.

      I agree, it is a bit hard than the regular hammock, but the minute I hung it up Lucy jumped in it and went to sleep lol. And when I went in to check on them later that night, they had drug their little blanket inside of it and were all snuggled up sleeping. It was so cute :)

      @@FerretTails Thank you! I started learning how to handle the sewing machine because of your videos and I cant wait to put this knowledge into practice. I have three cute rats and they will love it!

      Nanda Kinas you can definitely do it. I 💯 taught myself how to sew by watching UA-cam videos. That was about 4 years ago, but there are some great tutorials on how to use sewing machines. Once I felt comfortable with my ability to do it, I bought a better sewing machine! My interest in sewing came from wanting to make stuff for my ferrets 😂.

    Awwh the last frame where video ends melted my heart ❤️ ferrets are literally the cutest faces I know of 😅😊😊🥰🥰😍😌 I own rats 🐀 I really want them to have a cube hammock as buying it currently is too expensive for me the only thing I don’t own is interfacing 😭 I only have thin strip roll of it I also wonder how to make the bottom of the hammock more sturdy so when they get in it will not sink like we can see here 🤔

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  2 роки тому

      I love their little faces too 🥰. I have a regular Etsy customer who has two rats, one is hairless and they are so cute. I love when she sends me videos 🥰. Their so smart.
      As for the stabilizer, I am in love with fusible fleece (Pellon 971). I use it between the two layers. I use it with all the items I sell in my Etsy shop. According to Pellon it’s safe, from what I have found they say “ "Our fusible coatings are all non-toxic."
      If you don’t want to use fusible fleece, try quilt batting, the thicker the better the shape will be. But also the thicker, the harder it will be to sew.
      For the bottom, I make a square pad with solid fleece and out a layer of uhaul in the middle. Then I stick it in the hole of the cube so it just lays on the bottom. That really helps the bottom be more sturdy. I make the pads in my Teepee tutorial if you wanted to see how I made it. ua-cam.com/video/3wH5yRhB25A/v-deo.html

    Hi Could I use 931TD mid weight interfacing for a little more support??

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  10 днів тому

      @@michelleclark8627 you could, it wouldn’t be quite as sturdy as fusible fleece, but it would work, especially if you’re using flannel as the outside fabric. I use that kind of interfacing when I’m making triangle shaped coin purses, and things like that and it works win helping to keep the shape

    • @michelleclark8627
      @michelleclark8627 10 днів тому

      @FerretTails she doesn't use the fusible fleece in the video it's Featherlite 911ff which is lighter then the mid weight. I am confused bc she says fleece interfacing but the bag she shows u is not that?

    • @michelleclark8627
      @michelleclark8627 10 днів тому

      Just want to make it as sturdy as I can. What should I use then?

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  10 днів тому

      @@michelleclark8627 i’m so sorry, that’s my fault, I made this video about four years ago and at that time I had not been sewing very long and I hadn’t used interfacing or fusible fleece very much, and I incorrectly called it interfacing but I was actually using fusible fleece in the video.
      I currently use Pellon 971 because I found it to be the more sturdier of the two fusible fleeces that Joann fabrics offers but in the video I probably used Pellon 987
      I’m also working on trying to remake some of my older videos just to make them easier to follow and easier to understand.
      I started sewing in 2018 when I got my ferrets, but I’m fully self-taught, which sometimes shows in my earlier videos.
      I sincerely apologize for any confusion and I really appreciate you bringing this to my attention and I will add this video to the list of ones I want to remake. And if ever come across on of my videos that’s hard to understand or does it make sense please feel free to leave a comment or you can message me on Instagram or Facebook, and I have my email address about section of my UA-cam channel.

    Please do a video on how to make a round tube hanging bed like the square ones, but the round top circle is 12 in. & bottom circle 12 with the side is 36 in. long by 12 wide with entrance whole in the center need to see how to sew the whole thing together from start to finish please I'm just learning this to save money & I love your videos, it's not a tunnel bed instead of a square cube bed it's round bed with the entrance hole in front like the club bed not a tunnel bed

      Hi Kathy, just m glad you are enjoying the videos. I did a tunnel hammock back when I first started my channel. Although that one does not have an entrance hole in the top center. I linked that video below, but I will work on doing another video for a tunnel hammock with the hole in the top center!

    Do you have to use the batting?

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  4 роки тому

      Alicia Vaughan no, you don’t have to use it. The main reason I use it is to help keep the shape so the cube stays a cube. You could just use the fabric or you can also use iron on fusible fleece from the craft store or Walmart to hold the shape.
