    The set for James Cameron's Titanic was absolutely amazing.

      They used the exact same materials that were on the real Titanic to keep it as accurate as possible.

    So Titanic/Olympic has been made 3 times, the first one was scrapped in 1935, the next sank on her maiden voyage in 1912, and this one (although it didn't float) gets totally scrapped as well.
    Damn it world, you had 3 tries!!!! This is why the Honor and Glory game devs have to spend their lives recreating all of the Titanic on computers now! This is why!

      If you want to get a sense of what it would have been like, go to the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick. The Olympic and Titanic where not completely identical, their layout was slightly different. Titanic had some features that Olympic didn't have, or were added later, after the sinking of the Titanic. However. Both of their Grand Staircases where identical. the reason why people haven't completely rebuilt that ship, is because of the cost, the fact regulations have changed, and even though the Olympic has long since been scrapped,The White Swan hotel's Olympic Suite incorporates paneling, mirrors, a ceiling and stained glass windows which were removed from the RMS Olympic when she was being dismantled in Jarrow in 1936. The hotel's then-owner, Algenon Smart, had been a frequent traveler on Olympic and took part in the auction of the ship's fittings in November 1935. At the auction, which was run by the London firm Knight Frank & Rutley, he had the winning bids for elements of the First Class Lounge, the Aft First Class Staircase, and the revolving door from the liner's restaurant.

    • @TechnologicallyTechnical
      @TechnologicallyTechnical 6 років тому +8

      +Evan Worden Dude, he's quite clearly talking about the movie set, not the actual ship.
      That being said, the set was built on a rented lot, it's purpose is specifically for the building/tearing down of movie sets (once production finishes of course)

    0:03 - on the real Titanic these were iron grill doors that were intricately designed instead of solid oak doors.

    • @cliff9685
      @cliff9685 7 років тому +8

      And the floors in that area were tiled in the same style as the A deck grand staircase with the black and white pattern, not carpeted. But none of that was known at the time the movie was made. Also the carpet pattern in the reception room is different and the dining room was not carpeted but linoleum tiled in an attractive intricate design of blue, red and yellow.

      Sure, let's not compliment this incredible achievement. Instead, let's desperately try to look for a "mistake" and talk about that.

    • @TechnologicallyTechnical
      @TechnologicallyTechnical 2 роки тому

      +Ryan Dixon It's possible that Olympic used something more along the lines of the oak doors, as there's inconsistencies between the doors found on Titanic (which slid open) and the doors indicated on Olympic's deck plans (which are indicated as swinging open). A similar entrance space with similar paneling aboard a previous WSL ship (Laurentic) had glazed oak doors that swung open.

    Why they don’t just build this as a hotel and restaurant I’m sure it would look so good in New York it would never have to sail just dock it think of how much money you could bring to it. It not like there is anything like it today it would be so much fun to just stay one night and go through it and be treated like a 1st class passenger I mean in New York there such a world presence it would be full at all times especially parking it near Brooklyn bridge that a historic area it would look so good there or maybe Ellis island it would work there too less crowded. I mean just think how nice it would be to be on the grand decks and see New York skyline and the Statue of Liberty and all the bridges and it would look so good from those location too it just works why a billionaire has not done this IDK

    The bay windows separating the 1st class sitting area to the dining area is incorrect, instead of 5 small ones, there should be 3 big ones

    • @TechnologicallyTechnical
      @TechnologicallyTechnical 6 років тому +7

      +Patrick Crawford This wasn't known yet at the time. Funny enough though, those archway windows don't match up with Olympic's either. On Olympic, the middle one on each side was wider. Here, they're all the same size. Always wondered why this was.

    • @DarkJedireaper
      @DarkJedireaper 6 років тому

      They didn#'t know that back in 1997. But they do now. It doesn't stop what the filmmaker built and filmed from being any less beautiful or faithful. Since it was faithfully created and even revealed new evidence that we weren't even aware of until then. We know much more now. Particularly regarding the differences between Titanic and her sister ship Olympic.

    • @Legitcar117
      @Legitcar117 6 років тому +3

      Matt Ward remember in the honor and glory video of them talking about this?
      They mention they used titanics wall dimensions, and that once they added in olympics window design, it didn’t match up right, which is what led to them looking at the dining room photo from titanic and getting it right.
      I suspect Cameron did a similar thing maybe and just made up how long or how it looked to make it fit, they obviously didn’t know about the 3 big windows back then.

    • @TechnologicallyTechnical
      @TechnologicallyTechnical 4 роки тому

      @@Legitcar117 That's what I figured too, but the thing is, there doesn't seem to be any indication that the size of that spot was any different on Titanic compared to Olympic, so I never got why Olympic's window design didn't match up (especially since their earlier renders have Olympic's window design in that spot)

      JJ’S Channel It’s not a game, this tour was part of a 1998 CDROM related to the James Cameron movie. It was called Titanic Explorer. One of its contents was a 360 degrees tour of the (movieset) ship. Really ahead of its time because now with Google Street view we are used to this kind of thing but at the time to make photographs (analog probably) and later stitch it together into 360 degrees pics must have been a lot of work. The game that is being discussed in this response section is Titanic Honor and Glory. The team from this game is recreating the entire ship digitally, litterly every thing even the broomclosets. Historians and experts have been supporting the team to put all the puzzel pieces together to create it as accurate as possible. You should really download the demo(s) from TitanicHG.com

      +Gabriel Alvarado This set is incredibly accurate given the time period it was made. The differences in the arched windows on Titanic had not been discovered yet, and the furniture is very similar to the furniture used on the actual ship. The only glaring inaccuracy is the carpet, but it's such a minor offense compared to everything else that it's hardly worth bringing up.
      You can complain about Jack and Rose, but this film's dedication to accuracy regarding the sets was extraordinarily remarkable.

      @@dawntaylor4210 It's a mostly accurate representation of what the room really looked like. There's photographs of the room on Olympic.
