After studying countless references for the production of our game, we have been uncovering new design changes of the RMS Titanic that were previously unknown.
i'm a Titanic enthusiast for over 20 years....and i want to say thank you for bringing back to life the ship guys....your work is amazing.
Your presentation is so well-done, so well-presented. The re-creation of the Titanic's interior is remarkable. I don't do games and such but I'm a serious ocean liner enthusiast and it's a great pleasure to see the inside of this ship. I think your discovery could be considered additional evidence that the Olympic and Titanic were not switched.
What an amazing discovery! I am speechless. You guys did the right thing to ask Bill. He knows that ship better then anyone alive today. James Cameron even praised him for his knowledge. I spoke to him on a few occasions on Facebook. Very nice guy.
After viewing this, I can't wait to see the final result of our masterpiece. I am so going to buy it. I got goosebumps just by seeing the beauty of the dining hall.

Being a detail freak myself, I can only commend you for your thoroughness. I've been a Titanic enthusiast since childhood. What you're doing is amazing. I happen to be 3d modeler myself. Top notch work you guys have done so far! Should you ever need some extra help, feel free to contact me.
I'm one of the guys who is mostly interested in the tank top deck. I want to explore the boiler rooms, engine rooms, learn what all the pumps are for, follow the pipes, crawl down the shaft tunnel, go down into the bulge under then engines, climb up on top of the boilers, go inside the coal bunkers. But that's just me, I can't wait to see the rest of the ship also, you're doing the Titanic great justice in your attention to detail. Maybe even go inside an unlit boiler and clean the tubes.
You can do most of those things on the working (free) demo, now.

Amazing! Its amazing how they changed a lot of small things between the titanic and olympic. It makes me wonder what small changes Thomas Andrews had in mind for the britannic after finding small flaws around the titanic
Apparently Britanic was going to be similar but very different from the other two
Britannic was going to be the most Iuxurious. The smoke room was different, it was apparently supposed to have a Winter Garden Cafe, etc.
If he had survived, he would've thought to change the watertight doors and make them over the bulkheads, and strengthen the double bottom of the ship.
I do know that the Britanic was going to have a full on pipe organ in the foreward 1st class Grand Staircase, just behind the elevators. None of the fittings and fixtures made it into the Britanic. With the outbreak of WW1, the ship had to be immediately converted for military use before its completion, so everything was put in storage before installation. After its sinking, all of the finishes got sold off, including the organ, which has been found to be in possession by the Museum für Musikautomaten in Switzerland.
Water Spray - The bulkheads on the Olympic were raised higher due to the Titanic disaster and the double hull reinforced.
Did any of you look at the 2001 wreck footage? James Cameron was in this exact spot!

Exactly, more open but am doubting that glass would be fitted in the Keystone area because of safety reasons would have been same size without glass in my opinion. do you have any photos of the kitchen and food prep areas? It would still be First class so a division area without glass of that size is very probable. I feel that the design would be correct. It makes perfect sense. The doors would serve as separation of both areas while giving the continuation of the space, ventalation (sp) and communication by not adding glass, also the glass like I mentioned earlier would be a safety concern being that large.
@@JamesLeonMahan- That's a very interesting point you are bringing up! It might very well have been a safety hazard to have such large glass surfaces in those windows, but I'm not buying your suggestion that they would have been open (i.e. without glass).
To me, this is just another argument against THG's reconstruction of those windows. I am probably the only one here who believes that there wasn't a significant difference in window size between the Olympic and Titanic. With all due respect, I don't think the photo interpretation in this video is accurate, and I don't think the proposed reconstruction is convincing.
I think I'll make my own video with an alternative analysis of Brown's photo of the dining room. I love everyone working on Titanic H&G, but I don't believe the reconstruction of those windows is correct. I think the design was identical to the dining room on the Olympic and therefore I think the proposed redesign is a mistake.
@@j.vonhogen9650 The only suggestion I would like to make is that the woodwork design is concealing pipework or electric wiring of sorts, If the design was photo shopped I think someone needs to say yes it was. I agree with your point. a lot of things were carried over for both ships, There should be some type of document in the original design specifications of the correct application if any, I agree totally, I am not suggesting glass of that size was used in the Titanic unless it was leaded or stained glass for safety reasons.

I have been obsessed with the Titanic as long as I can remember. I am so looking forward to the final product and I am happy to see the passion and attention to detail you guys are putting into this game. The little details are the most important aspect.
Looks amazing! That's a very interesting discovery you made there about two of the most prominent rooms on the ship. It certainly looks much better and more modern with three large windows there, and much less enclosed.

I'm sure that Eva Hart said that she looked through a big glass window and if it were Olympic's design, it wouldn't be a big view and she would have probably not said this if it had Olympic's Design.
Jack G Plays Eva Hart wouldn't have been able to look through these windows as she was a second class passenger.
Maybe it could have been the second class dining room? I'm not sure. Oh, and demo 3 is fantastic! The dining room is amazing and the I tried recreating the Father Browne photograph and I mistook it for the real photo!
It would be cool if you could explore the ship but change between the the ship and the wreck with the touch of a button. Kind of like the Halo anniversary where you could swap between the graphics. One minute you are looking at the beautiful grand staircase. The next you could be looking at a dark hole where it used to be. All the Rusticles hanging from the ceiling, the Haunting Blue light from Mir 1 outside shining down the staircase. Obviously they would have to make a "Mock Wreck" as nobody has looked at the wreck in that much detail.

I strongly believe, once the project has ended, you should assemble copies of all the research and notes that went into this, and secure copies of your titanic recreation, and hand it out to a number of museums, for safe keeping.
Thank you for your part in keeping the story of the Titanic alive. The story, on a larger story, is the entire human experience. It has it all - heroes and cowards; greed and charity; power and weakness; the guilty and the innocent; hubris and humility; panic and calmness. It fascinates for it’s unbelievable aspects and yet, in hindsight, it was an accident bound to happen. I have been a student of the Titanic going on 55 years plus and never tire of discovering something new. Your work added to that ongoing discovery. The one thing that we will never discover is how any of us would have truly reacted that cold night in April, 1912. We all hope that we would have acted with dignity and courage but we just never will really know for certain. The more we discovery about the Titanic, maybe the more we can come to a clearer understanding of how we truly would have acted.
Shows that White Star Line and Titanic were ahead of its time, that’s quite a remarkable discovery! Just when you think you know about something, that same observation could change in the snap of the fingers! Keep going you guys!

My personal preference is for the original round arches, but it clearly was a matter of making the spaces look larger by having larger windows. Plate glass was quite a fetish at that time too with recent advances in production technology yielding larger sheets of glass and they wanted to exploit is as much as possible.
This just goes to show the incredible amount of effort that has gone, and is going into THG. Well done, y’all.

Fascinating! Minor yet, It makes me rethink how I view the Dinning Saloon and the Reception room.
In the interview you have also used colors which could be from that time or from the 1940‘s. You have obviously used a red filter to achieve that. I love it.
You guys have done an awesome job with titanic honor and glory. So many times I see photos of the grand staircase mislabeled . From what I can tell there is a brass strip on the edge of each step on titanic while olympics is rounded wood .
Well this sure was a piece of discovery that surely should allow followers to see your dedication. I will admit that as you started explaining your discovery I, too, was thinking....so? It literally took me until the end of the video to WANT to go back and look at the photo again. After examining the photo myself I ALSO came to the same conclusion. Something so simple as this proves how dedicated to accuracy you really are and I love it! My question would be, what will you do with rooms that literally have no reference or documentation at all?
I've watched several tours of this product and I don't know why, but I feel so strange, it's so familiar walking through there. Sometimes I can feel the wood or the floor.

When I was younger, I used to thought about a game where you can explore the whole Titanic. And now when I discovered ''Titanic Honor And Glory'' I couldn't believe my eyes. Finally there comes a game where you can explore the whole Titanic.

I truly respect and appreciate this beautiful video. New information about the titanic is always more than welcome. Tip: if you want an experience that makes you feel feel like a passenger on a trans Atlantic Ocean liner....I highly recommend a visit to the queen mary in long beach California. (not a victorian ship, but simular grand proportions) my visit was for two nights and loved it!

What an amazing find. It really shows how dedicated you guys are to make this game happen. In my opinion, from a aesthetics standpoint, I think the small arches worked better because of the windows in the Reception room and the niches in the Saloon. I like the way the bigger arches look though and they are similar to both rows of center arches and columns that run the length of the saloon, the only difference is the missing keystone in the center of each arch. Is this part visible in the wreck of the Titanic?I remember watching a video of the windows in the reception room but Im not sure about the entrance to the saloon. Anyways, great work you guys, cant wait until everything is finish. Hopefully the fundraiser is a success, I've been sharing the link with friends.

When I last played a Titanic game... it was Titanic Out of Time. I remember playing it constantly and doing the most bizarre of tests:
Tests to see what happens where and when I get off.
Tests to find out.. what happens where I am in the ship / game and what time.. and is still gives me chills.
Sure, I can nitpick at the game about the modeling of some parts, or about the sound and or actual happenings... but sitting at a computer, at night, with no light or sound (besides the computer), knowing the ship by heart.. being somewhere at 2:20a, is truely a experience. The modeling then was 25+yrs old and it was at the forefront then.
It just scared the hell out of me to hear.. and listen to what is going on. I cant even imagine... a game made currently and being on "Scotland Road", in the dark.. at 220a. Also.. I will painfully admit, its not JUST about detail oriented or "a FAN"... its about the Beauty of THAT ship, that perfect Four Funnelled Steamer. Its an addiction.

Do this room or these windows still exist today? I suppose it would be too convenient if we were able to observe these windows today through expedition footage...
That part of the ship is close to the breakup zone and is completely in ruins. There's a chance we could find further evidence if we dove the wreck, but an expedition is a multi-million dollar endeavor. The footage that does exist from the wreck isn't clear enough to come to any further conclusions, but it does further support our claim.

Really great job done by two dedicated and super-enthousiastic forensic-spirited 'architecture-and-design'-detectives. All needs to fit based on 1001 photographs, filmfootage, blue print drawings and 101 construction and furniture catalogues and comparing ship-interior-designs and floor tapistry from that particular art period...

"Titanic" was supposed to be superior to "Olympic" in detail. Where "Olympic" was tiled, "Titanic" had carpet. Creating this open space illusion seems logical enough, when one reasons that a goal of architects at the time was to create open space dinging arenas, such as was finally accomplished on "Normandie", in the early thirties. Nice piece of research and revelation.

The Titanic had lino just like Olympic. There was no carpet in the dining room - only reception.
James Gavin In earlier readings, I recall it being reported that "Titanic" had "bottle green" carpeting in areas where "Olympic" had black and white tiling. At least one shipyard worker claimed to have a slice of it, which is now in possession of the T.H.S. I can only report on what I've read, however it wouldn't be the first time "Titanic's" story got larger than life!
Titanic and Olympic didn't really have carpet in a lot of places to be honest. Most rooms actually had linoleum tiling, such as the 1st class dining saloon, 2nd class staircases, swimming bath room, Turkish Bath cooling room, etc.

I am a docent for the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust in Chicago. You mentioned the "openness" as being more "modern." Have you considered the possible influence of Wright on that design? The Wasmuth Portfolio was published in Germany in 1911 and introduced Europe to Wright's design ethos and had a profound effect on European architects and design. That would have been between the building of the Olympic and the launching of the Titanic.
Are they Windows or mirrors? I'm not understanding why there would be windows between the dining room and reception. Mirrors make more sense. I've been in several Edwardian public buildings that featured mirrors in like places like the end of grand rooms to make them look larger and reflect light.
They’re windows. In photographs of Olympic’s archways, you can clearly see into the other room.

I think evidence to support these design alterations can be found in a published account of the maiden voyage of the Olympic (June 14, 1911) During the passage it was noted that, "The reception room and not the first class lounge was the most popular room on the ship." After meals, many passengers lingered and listened to the music which was played there. The reception became so crowded that, "the spare cane chairs stored below were brought up from the baggage room and at times even that wasn't enough as people were sitting on the grand staircase." After the Olympic's maiden voyage, Bruce Ismay ordered 50 additional chairs, and extra ventilation. For the Titanic, the reception room was to be enlarged.
In my opinion, this would lend evidence to the idea of large windows in the Bulkhead which divided the Reception & Dining Saloon as such an alteration would enhance the idea of spaciousness in what was apparently a very crowded area of the ship. (I am surprised there isn't definite evidence however as James Cameron has made it into the forward corner of the Saloon, where he found an intact window and the remains of an upright table.)
Many other alterations for the Titanic are recorded in this post-Olympic Maiden Voyage publication (Enlarge the Assistant Dr's Room, Remove Stateroom C144-46, Remove wardrobe door mirrors adjoining entrance doors to interior staterooms on C-Deck, Sponge holders on B-C decks private bathrooms were to be omitted Back plates for electric reading lamps to be added behind beds, etc etc."
Christopher Lucki The wall has fallen down in the wreck. In 2001, though, Ken Marschall noted that the few remnants of the wall didn't seem to match Olympic and that was a mystery to him.
Nicolas Murgia Very interesting. I remember watching one undersea documentary and the robot was showing various saloon doors, so I assumed the walls holding the doors were still upright. I think this theory is a good one. I find it fascinating that after 105 yrs, we're still discovering new information about the Titanic.

There’s postcards from the era with color artwork depicting many of the spaces aboard Olympic, plus written documentation from various sources.

Yeah a lot of people got this wrong even James Cameron who went to the shipwreck actually got it wrong in a deleted scene where the Purser officer that was chasing Jack Dawson and Rose Dawson down the grand staircase in into the first-class dining room after d-deck was already flooded. Cameron could even get it right even after constructing a full size model based on the blueprints from Belfast.

A quick question, was the dinning room carpeted? or it was linoleum floors, I know it doesn't make a difference, but carpets needed breath holes, same as wood floors, so maybe theres an interesting detail there

What about the Britannic? Did it have the same larger windows? The ship was around longer. Might be existing photos of it.

Was there no good footage from any of the expeditions of that area? I know from past Commutator issues there were some photos published from that area of Titanic ... also, why didn't you do a photo from your game showing the point of view of the b&w photo to see if the perspective was the same ... to see if you could really see those windows? Your outline in the b&w photo, something doesn't quite seem right with the angles.
Have the dives shown the Dining Saloon bulkhead or confirmation or was that part too compressed or too degraded to get anything clear from?

They are much more luxurious. Titanic was nothing compared to the Imperator-Class Ships. I would love to explore one of these three marvels.

I think everyone who studies the Olympic-Class liners goes through a phase of "dining room envy" when discovering that those spaces were rather unspectacular compared to (most) other contemporary luxury liners. Somehow, only being one deck in height takes away from the grandeur that popular myth attaches to those ships. Indeed, the HAPAG trio was designed to have far grander public spaces, aiming to impress on an unprecedented scale. Nevertheless, I really appreciate the Olympic and Titanic for their sophisticated, more subtle approach and the many innovative ideas. The Jacobean motif of the dining room was simply beautiful and seemed rather more inviting than those bombastic dining halls some of the other "big ships" boasted in that period. The lighting effect through the "Luxfer" prismatic panels and the indirect illumination must have been nothing short of spectacular. The reception room had a fun, informal feeling about it, the 1912 equivalent of youthful and breezy. No wonder It proved so popular on the Olympic that it was decided to enlarge it on the Titanic. The Olympic-Class interiors were in harmony with those ships' outward appearance. Handsomely proportioned with simple and elegant lines, they looked majestic but not overpowering. Together with that wonderful 4-funnel profile, they were, to my mind, among the most beautiful ships ever built.

The only thing that perplexes me is: isn't there video taken of the wreckage that shows the Reception Room and Dining Saloon areas? I remember in the movie Old Rose saw a picture from the remote vehicle filming Titanic's interiors depicting the wraught iron dining room entrance doors, triggering one of her flashbacks. Given that these remote vehicles' cameras went that deep into the ship, shouldn't the configuration of the arches on the dining room's bulkhead wall have been known and documented 20 years ago? Just wondering. Other then that, this game looks fantastic; I can't wait for it to come out!
Actually those were the doors leading from the D-Deck entrance to the reception room.
I sent you guys an email about the odd photo of the honor and glory carving that was different from all the others . What did you make of it? I could only think of 3 scenarios . Either it's a Replica /photoshopped , or Olympic had some alterations at some point, or it is the titanic.
Kef103 the Olympics Honor and Glory clock is in the Maritime Museum in Southampton. Other than the colour, no changes were ever made to Olympics, but it was painted avocado green in the 1930s.
I equate this to putting mirrors in certain places in a home to create the illusion that rooms are larger than they appear.
Is this also be seen on one of the many dives they did to the wreck ? I'm sure they visited the diningroom or reception hall on D-Deck, especially because one of the first-class entry doors are open...
That area of the wreck has been completely crushed and destroyed. There are scant bits of evidence that can easily be missed, but the evidence does point in the favor of what we have here.
Well, thanks for the fast reply, I have a great interest in the Titanic ever since I was 8 years old, when the Titanic was discovered by Robert Ballard, but I never saw this picture before. I have lots of books, films and documentairies about the ship and saw a lot of it. After 32 years I'm still interested in the Titanic, and by now I know precisly where I am when I see a picture, movie or even play a game. So you guys did a great job !
Keep up the good work and I hope that when the time comes that the game is released I have a better PC then the one I have now. I played the demo today, but my PC couldn't handle it...

7:47 shouldn't those sculpted plaster (esque) decorations on the very far wall match the new windows? that seems more plausible, unless there's evidence to the contrary

Yes, that is exactly why Titanic looked like she did: she was a very fine tuned Olympic. There are photos of her fore staircase, but not of the aft staircase

Also, can you provide any links to any of the photos of Titanic's Grand Staircase? There's some famous ones out there, but as far as I know, most of those photos are of Olympic's Grand Staircase.
