- We went to try our luck on the Cannon River for some Whitebass. Not expecting but hoping to catch some fish, the morning started off promising. As our luck would have it, we lost the anchor because the anchor rope somehow slipped off of where it was tied to and within a minute or so, a bad knot on the stringer became undone and we also lost the stringer of fish from the morning. But we bounced back and managed to catch a few fish for the frying pan and a bonus Walleye!!! What a morning of up and down emotions!!!

This is 2019? Wow! long ago. There's tons of white bass on the cannon river at the bridge by hwy 56 where the cannon river about to enter lake Byllesby in the 90's but not sure how it is now. Have not been there since 2001 so there may not be any. The last time I was there I caught a large mouth with tons of white maggot like parasites on the fish's body and inside the meat. Very scary! after that I never gone to that river ever again. Way too scary!
Gross, yes that would keep me away too if I caught a fish like that. If you go down closer to Faribault area, it seems like the fish are a bit cleaner. Haven’t had that experience with sick looking fish yet. The last couple of years the water level is way low so the fishing hasn’t been great.
