Single best video on early extension. Changed my game immediately
Love to hear this, Jerry!!
I hope it does it for me. I had no idea why my club was getting stuck behind me and I couldn’t shallow the club sometimes Early extension Seems like it will be hard to do the exact opposite. I’ve been doing for years.
Thank you sir. Tried to fix early extension despite irons being my strong suit. Turned into a week long case of the shanks. Clicked on this randomly while hitting into my net and solved the shanks and early extension. Truly a hero
Our pleasure man glad it helped!
I think this is the best video on early extension. Thank you so much for posting this. It really explains a lot of what I do and now how I can fix it.
Thanks Tony! So glad this one helped!
Just subscribed! Thanks again!
Appreciate your support! Great to have you here with us👊
"The longer you can wait the better."--- When JT said that it really resonated with me because all year I've been working on not rushing my downswing, but using tempo to make a smoother transition.
Thanks so much for watching, Carlo! Hope this one helps your game!
For years (and years) I have been driving that right hip back too early to try and create space. Can’t wait to try this new approach. Thx Eric and JT!
Our pleasure, John! Let us know how practice goes!
OMG!! That's ground breaking instruction! Up until now everybody has said the same thing trying to fix early extension. Nobody has explained like this until now. Can't wait to try this.
Thank you for watching, Alex! Hope it serves you well!
Completely agree with you !
It’s literally like you know exactly what I’m working on always. Great video as always 👍🏼👍🏼
:) Thank you, Daniel!
Eric I can’t thank you enough for this video, I’ve tried so many different tips to try and fix my early extension non of which seemed to work. This however has sorted me right out. The more rounded posture with better weight distribution seems to have nailed it for me. Thank you ever so much.
Love it Max---our pleasure!
Mind blowing video. Excellent. I have early extension and I was trying to fix it with all the bad things that you mentioned. Finally we have a video on UA-cam taking the early extension issue in the right way with such a good explanations
Appreciate it, Nicolas! Thank you for being here with us!!
This is EXACTLY my issue. I have been struggling with this FOREVER. Now I have something doable that I can work on. Thanks Eric!
Hope it helps, Mark!
@@CogornoGolf Yea me to...I have been struggling with this for the last couple of years. It really shows up with the 80 yard block to the right driver or fatted irons! 😭
harvey penick: “the ankle bone connected to the knee, then the hip then the shoulders” u move from the ground up! its like you are greeting someone standing behind you! that simple thought has helped me the most.
Great, clearly explained and demonstrated movements and timings required to correct early extension. Best golf instruction video out there.
Thanks for the kind words, Wayne!
Amazing swings!! The sound of the contact was lovely!!
:) Thanks for watching, Wilson!
You seem to post the exact video I need at the time I need it! Posture is my number one priority right now.
This happens to me too withErics videos, it is honestly spooky, I’m glad i;m not the only one, Truman
:) Appreciate you both watching! Let us know how practice goes!
Ok, so JT, the idea of setting up with beach ball feeling in legs simplifies a feeling i need to have to turn back properly. At least with one range session, it consolidate feelings. I tend to move my forward knee back too far which probably put hip(s) out of position. thank you.
Glad this one helps, William!
Eric. Add this to your early extension master class... Nice!
👊
Hope it helps your game!
Great video Eric. Ever since I got out of an athletic posture and stood closer to the ball with my back curved vs. arched, my ball striking has improved dramatically (not to mention distance). I pretend there is a wall behind my and I'm trying to reach up as high as possible on the wall (not swaying, keeping my hips in a barrel).
Love it!
Following this advice has really stopped my shanking. Thank you!
Love to hear this, Richard! Our pleasure!
Yuo guys are super star instructors what a in depth insight into techniques how did JT figure all that out when no one else seems to know that critical information
Thanks George! JT is the best!!
Holy smokes! Of course I was doing it back ***wards the entire time! I thought you had to get hip depth early in the backswing. I always felt off balanced and hit a million thin/fat shots with my longer irons due to my early extension. Thanks! Now I'm off to the range.....
Hope it helps your game!👊
Thank you! Can’t wait to try this feel!!
I would like to thank you, this is the best explenation how to fix my early extension
Glad this one helped my friend!
This video is really great and helpfull. Perfect job Eric. Thank you so much
Happy to hear this one helped, Fred! Our pleasure!
That was huge guys. Thank you for this video!
Our pleasure! Appreciate you watching!
I’m an early extender so this is huge. My buddy was just telling me I’m to bent over and your video comes out. Good timing. Thanks
Our pleasure, Steve! Hope this one helps your game!
Great video Eric thanks very much from across the pond I’ve noticed I always early extend raising up not seeing ball at impact and hitting irons thin out to the right when I have a no hip turn in backswing I take it more hip turn on backswing is the answer? Rgds Jimmy
Hey Jimmy!
You can't go wrong with having great hip turn in the backswing, but there are a lot of moving parts and it's hard to say 100% without seeing your swing.
Send in your swings to www.cogornogolf.com and we'll do a FREE analysis and build you a custom practice plan!
Hope to see you there!
Excellent instruction thank you.
Appreciate you, Paul! Thanks for watching!
Eric....
very good!
I noticed this with Hogan......he usually did the opposite of what he wanted to do in the downswing....in the backswing.
He cupped his wrists then bowed into impact
He had right arm on top at address, then in close and under at impact
This " be tall at address" to promote the proper time, later, to keep the hips back and from early extending, is very similar IMO.
Agree?
Thank you!
100%! Here is a video we did on Ben Hogan's backswing that you might like checking out:

Appreciate you being here with us!
@@CogornoGolf Thanks for that. A caution in looking at Hogan's low/flat swing...his clubs were bent 4 degrees flat according to folk lore...matching that "lowness"
This instruction is great Eric.
Appreciate it!
@@CogornoGolf applied it immediately on the course (grip drill in pre-shot and late deepening of the hips) shot level par on the back nine. Standard procedure now for the next twelve months then
:) Great playing!!
Great video, great explanations
Thank you, Walter!
Thats awesome insightful information on JTs part from set up to hip action timing in the takeaway it feels so good and thank YOU
for bringing this vital information to us you really do work hard to bring us best info available in cluding your own thoughts
Appreciate your feedback and support, George! Thank you!
With this swing example (iron) what is the weight distribution at the top or the start transition?
50/50 wish
Creating space for the hips in the second part of the back swing, for me also means creating space for me in the downswing to place my right elbow in front of my right hip so I can get my hands over the ball when club shaft is parallel to the ground in the down swing. Does that make sense?
Yes! You can also drop your trail foot back 2-3 inches at setup. This sort of pre-clears the trail hip and gives us more room later in the downswing for our trail arm to get in front of our trail hip👍
Thank you for watching, Harold!
Great video guys!
Thank you, Robert!
Great stuff. You two are a fab team btw.
Thanks so much!
Great Advice tips
Thanks, Lendard!
A lot of talent on this channel
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!!
Brilliant, Thanks for the video. Feels really strange though
Our pleasure! Hope it serves you well!
If you are starting taller won’t the head need to drop significantly through impact if you are pushing hips back?
Hey Blaine! It will drop SOME yes....doesnt need to drop a ton.
Can’t wait to bring this to the range tomorrow because I’ve been doing the opposite !
Hope your practice goes great, Mike! Thanks for watching!
I like the new music/ intro way better
Appreciate your feedback! Thanks for watching!
Once again, you called the "lightbulb moment" when I had the "lightbulb moment" 8:25
:)
Epic video.
Thank you :)
Is it the chicken or the egg? Am I early extending because of a steep downswing (making space), or am I swinging steeply into the ball because of the extension (reaching for the ball)? I think the latter? Looking at how deep my hips get early, this video really hits the mark.
Great question!
With respect to early extension it seems that you talked about many things to correct the problem can you let me know the basic thoughts or points to correct early extension thanks for your help let me know Jack
Hey JJ!
I would start with the following videos to give you a nice overview:

SOLID GOLD
Thank you, Mike!
That Municipal add looks like some intro on a PS3 golf game 😂😂😂😂
:)
My takeaway from this is the flow, or to let the hips turn in reaction to the upper body turning rather than forcing the hip turn.
Love it, Jim!
in my trials and tribulations against EE i find myself doing something right and hitting a lot of toed shots. but it's not as simple as scooting a tad closer to the ball is it? no, it HAS to be posture
Exactly! It's more about the posture than the distance away from the ball👍
Here's a video with some great balance point checkpoints for your setup:
ua-cam.com/video/8TjvCHCAQ0c/v-deo.html
Hope this is helpful!
Early extension is caused by a basic misunderstanding of the golf swing. People with EE believe they need to return to their address position at impact. They believe their downswing is 100% reverse from the backswing when in reality the downswing is only 50% of the downswing. The added turn of the body returns the club to the ball with a 50% downswing. EE is caused by forcing the club downward instead of swinging it level or perpendicular to the spine angle.
Thank you for watching!
If only it were that simple. There’s many great players, pros, better than scratch, etc. people who have gone to school for golf, people who have been studying the game their entire lives, etc. & still EE. Some peoples bodies just work better with some EE, like Jimmy Walker for example.
@@TheWedgeWizard But it is that easy when you have the proper intention. A swing with the proper intention will create what's called the "heavy head" like Tommy Fleetwood. A swing with the wrong intention will cause EE.
@@HolyGrailOfGolf if it were “that easy” I think Butch Harmon would be able to get Jimmy Walker not early extending over however many years they’ve been working together. There’s many factors, how a persons body works is a major one & some people’s bodies swing most efficiently not getting as open as others. Jack Nicklaus, Brandon Mathew’s & Louie Oosthuizen would be more examples.
@@TheWedgeWizard Good points. In my opinion modern American golf instruction is still in the dark ages. They go about it all wrong. They attempt to mimic the positions of good players without understanding the fundamental foundation that creates those positions. It's what I call de facto learning - assuming that a manufactured effect will somehow create the proper cause. It simply doesn't happen which is why it usually takes people forever to learn golf, if ever.
lightbulb moment
:) Glad to hear it!
I'm watching this and it makes perfect sense - for flat bellies - like yourselves. I'm betting many of your students are overweight. As a consequence they have to bend forward more to accommodate a belly - then they sit back further to balance themselves. So, then the butt gets way back and I think that locks the hips making it difficult to turn on the hip joints. The standup and flip is the only way to keep from burying the club way behind the ball. Maybe y'all could show us how heavy people have to setup and swing. I think it's way different than most Tour Pros today. Maybe the "old fashioned" swing of the 70s and 80s - was for a group that was much less physically fit? It would be fun to see y'all put on a Fat Suit and figure out how to swing well. I can say all this - I'm a fat guy myself.
Appreciate you watching the channel, Jeff!👊
