    If you need more than just few simple chords, it is probably more convenient to use "Chords, Scales & Arpeggios actions and menu set" by Aeolian1. You must be in MIDI editor; however, you can insert even arpeggio for complex chord in less than one second.

    i think it's easier to make any chord you could possibly want if you know a bit of music theory. it's faster, too.
    basically all you need to know is triads and intervals.
    1) major triad = root+major 3rd + minor 3rd
    2) minor triad= root+minor 3rd+major 3rd
    3) intervals (like 2nds, 6ths, etc.) add flavor. learn how to build them (for example, minor sixth is 8 semitones), and learn their flavor. it's very handy.

    • @SeanORaigh
      @SeanORaigh 2 роки тому +6

      That's easy to say from our perspective. We already know it and probably learnt it all quite a while ago. There are people who find music theory, even fundamental stuff like this, very difficult to grasp.
      I don't think these MIDI packs are a good replacement for music theory knowledge, but they'd be great teaching tools. If you use this chord pack enough you'll start to understand how chords work.

      This is choosing to be a narrow minded person. What is easy for you could not be easy for others. Do we need to graduated in human being science to be able to understand this? I think we should learn to see others different from us and accept them as they are. Kenny thinks about all the week the strong the worst even... And I really appreciate it...

    Great Kenny. In the old days I used to write chords on bits of paper and pull them out of a bag and play them in whatever order they came out to see if it inspired anything.
    This is a more sophisticated modern version of the same thing...
    You can do the same thing with band names song or album titles. Just read a random line out of a page on a book and see what turns up..
    Did a covers album with my daughter once... Used a medical dictionary and came up with the album title Fractured In Any Case...
    We thought it sounded pretty cool... 🤣😅😉

I wish they were all Visually available within from the DAW. Not from a file dialog where I search them through folders and files. But this would be more than sufficient for what I needed.

This just seems like a very sensible solution for me, since I mainly record acoustic guitars and vocal and then add some bass and percussion, if needed. Very cool process, Kenny!
    Is there a way to apply a midi chord to something like the Spitfire BBC Discovery VST? (Unless I’m missing a setting) Each instrument is on a separate track. But if I wanted to create a string quartet or something that has a different instrument play a note in a chord, is there a way to send a note to a track?
    I guess that would probably just get really messy fairly quickly. Maybe you know a trick or a VST that helps with that.
    Thanks for the walkthrough!

    Near as I can tell, the contents of the progressions file is all contained in the chords file, just organized differently. So you only have to download the free-midi-chords-20211125 file to get all the progressions too. The difference being in "chords", the progressions are in sub-folders by key, whereas with "progressions" all keys are in the same folder. Arguably the key-sorted folders is easier to work with, so I don't see a need to download the progressions file at all.

    Technically speaking, there are more advanced voicing for chords. I've never looked at these midi packs because I expected them to be the basic voicings of a beginner piano student. Also, depending on your needs and instrumentation being used, it will matter where these notes fall in the range of the instrument. That is, if you give crap. I'm just saying.

    • @JonHarris77
      @JonHarris77 2 роки тому +1

      Agree, the only thing that might be more "pro level" is having a different choice of voicings. But it is easy to drag a given note up or down an octave to make any voicing you want. No need for understanding of complex music theory necessary to experiment with voicing like this.
