The money already went in the "trusted leaders" pockets. This shows most everywhere there is large sums of money. There is people lining their pockets.
LeviOG my district is building a new middle school and that shit gonna cost 50 million dollars cause they got a big check from the government and handed it to my schools head principal.
I used to work maintenance at a public school. The issues that you see are a direct result of people at the top wasting money on things that have nothing to do with the building. Example.... We had a backup boiler that needed the flame tubes replaced and some other reconditioning. This work must be performed by licensed companies and pass state inspection. Cost was going to be around $13K. People in charge did not approve because they didn’t see the point of spending that much on a backup boiler so denied the request. A few weeks later they approved spending $11K on a week long “team building” trip for administration that included zip lining and sightseeing helicopter rides. Fast forward a few months when our good boiler developed a crack in the rear head and had to be replaced. The new head was two weeks out and would take 3 days to install and get inspection. Backup boiler could only be used for four hours at a time and someone had to watch it around the clock. Unnecessary waste of time and money not to mention dangers. When you see issues such as this most people blame maintenance staff but in reality it’s administration and bean counters whom are to blame.
I went to a different HS to take a Criminal Justice class in my senior year and the school district installed several thousand dollar smart boards instead of fixing a leaking roof, there were 3-4 buckets at a time to catch water and you'd have someone coming in with clear plastic tarps to cover some of the problem spots and empty the buckets so they could catch water again Hell, sometimes you'd walk in and there would be ceiling tiles on the floor that had gotten too heavy due to soaking up water It was ridiculous
Fmono • 38 years ago School kid. We have since moved into a new school facility, and the old building was torn down in August after 40 years. We were temporarily in another school as our old building went down and our new building went up. Now the bells are only turned off in certain circumstances. Now the site of our old building is a fire and police station, with many volunteer firefighters.
That's easier said than done number 1 number 2 it's on the Indian Reservation so if they shut it down more than likely they're not going to open a new one up if they do that then you can basically say goodbye to any form of Education and nobody really wants that it's all for what those kids have to go through just shows how much the federal government really cares
fire alarms need to work in order to keep everyone safe, especially in a dry area. without one, a fire could spread with kids and faculty still inside unaware because there was no alarm to tell them to evacuate.
The money that contractor took by not finishing the school is a crime. I want that money to go to the right people! Hunt that contractor down now! That is not fair to take from the government and get away with it!!
Robert Hilden It won't happen, the contractor probably has a buddy on the BIA who got him the job and is probably being paid to sweep the crime under the rug.
Or the contractor never got paid and his workers quit on him. This broken fire alarm has brought an additional million into this school. A federal and state auditor could figure out where the money went in a day. Start with who signs the checks.
last year after daylight savings begun our bells were wrong and the timing change didn’t work for some reason. they called the manufacturer of the bell and they didn’t come or help. Still left the incorrect bells on and then finally they turned off the bells and used a hand bell. I dont know if it’s still like that now because i don’t go there anymore
This is a bunch of people that aren’t doing anything to help their situation, they disguise it like they are, they are only complaining about their situation. There is literally nothing wrong with the school other than the people running it. I watched the first half of this video in blank confusion because they described it as if there was someone coming in and sabotaging the school, but no. Just fix it
What about the gym? -Wires sticking out How about the cafeteria? -Wires are disconnected In the maintenance shop? -Where is the fire alarm control box?
The worst problem my school has is we have a small janitor shortage, so we had to close something like 5 unnecessary bathrooms to help the janitors a bit. I feel kind of spoiled to be in a school where every single shop room, science room, and hallway between buildings has a fire extinguisher, eye washers (not in halls), emergency showers (not in halls), and other emergency equipment around the school. I hope this school is better now.
My Cherokee Grandmother was upset when I told her about this news report. Someone needs to do an audit on the School Boards spending. Especially since they don't want to tell anyone what they spent the money on.
I live in New Mexico and really this isn't surprising at all. The Indian reservations are notoriously unorganized, and our state gives schools exactly 2 cents of budget every year. Albuquerque public schools is also insanely corrupt as instead of giving the departments in school money for paper (teachers/students have to buy their own paper and supplies basically ) they line their own pockets then cry about how bad the schools are. It's well known here but APS is so corrupt and has the money to shut down any case against them.
I'm amazed there are still wires in the school. They strip houses for copper. People have no idea the state of natives in this country but it's not the government's fault, it is 100% the natives that live in and govern these communities. They have no respect for their own community.

Most dangerous it’s just a fire alarm. I live in Chicago I my school we don’t even have lockers nor fire alarms wtf. And my school always on lockdown 😂
One of the things mentioned was the lack of bells. The #3 high school in America can't get their bells to work consistently, so I'm not surprised this school has no bells at all.
I've had friends tell me about reservations they lived in and honestly they sound pretty bad with no cops there's alot of drinking and alot of people being lazy, I've never been to one but I can imagine there's alot of good reservations as well.
There's your answer. It's not under govt funding or state funding. And it's still legal because it's ON a Rez. A normal municipal fire marshal would shut that place down SO fast. But look at their fire dept! OMG
Seems like there are 2 possible problems. 1. The contractor that was first hired to install the system left early or tried to pass off incompete work. 2. The school stopped paying said contractor before he was done, so he left.
What doesn't make sense..... No volunteer firemen. Various tribes through the Southwest have been sending firefighters to battle wildfires in California and Oregon. They are tough, relentless, and dedicated to the task... oh, and very well paid. I was honored to fight fires with them in 1987 in Klamath National Forest. Great folks.... Not sure if Navajo have such, but I would think so.
I commend the superintendent for standing there and not acting like it's not a problem this is just the best way he can fix it This is a way to show what's wrong
Its a case of not being able to help yourselves and always looking for someone else to do it. It seems to be they had A LOT of help and resources come their way, they chose not to take care of it. And i still want to know..wth does that maintenance guy do all day? just look at things and say, well its broke, someone should come fix it?!?!?!?
Honestly this seems like they need to sue the contractor. Seems like the majority of the issues came from the fact that whoever the contractor was did the bare minimum and even left without finishing what they started and even made conditions worse.
My second elementary school had no bells or anything, but we got through just fine. All my other schools had bells (though with my high school, it was a time tone on the intercom, but you get the idea.) This could be fixed but it looks like everyone is waiting for someone else to do it. That superintendent had the power to do something, but he'ss too busy doing nothing
Volunteer Fire Department...meaning people from the Navajo nation need to actually volunteer to do it. No one will volunteer in a community far from their home...
Sounds like Steve Garcia is at the top of the list of people to blame. He's responsible for facilities but doesn't even know what happened to the fire alarm systems. Unless he just started working there last week, he's guilty of not stepping up and doing his job.
This is what happens when you let private bodies contract work to do this, and they realise they can bounce with the profit before taking into any saftey concerns
4:25 Yea, yea, bells, but in my town the best pre/high -school doesn't have a bell and still, that is no problem, almost everyone wants to learn at it :P
Bruh how do you keep this running if I was a parent that went to this school I would rather have them homeschool it would cost more but it is better than a school without fire alarms a fire department and who knows what problems.
My school just removed all the fire alarms lol. (We don't even have schoolbells, the metal parts were taken off) Our school is very small, so we just go by the clock. the bathrooms are... fine. The water fountains have a taste of pencil lead in them, but the school said the water was tested.
I bet if you look at the officials paychecks and spending, it’ll show where all that money went. To lavish “conferences” (vacations), expensive and unnecessary eating out, shopping sprees, etc.
what the natives do with the millions of dollars it receives from the federal government and state is their business. They want to be in charge of their own land but also want to be in charge of what they do with the money we give them. So this is what they do.
I would be willing to bet that someone lined their pockets and that this work was contracted out to some scumbag contractor which charged insane rates which caused them to run out of money. I would also bet that the politician that was involved with the most likely no bid contract had received campaign donations from the same scumbag contractor that was awarded with the contract.
Unbelievable.Obviously the School Board serves its own interests before those of the childrens needs. As i understand it ; for the most part, reservations are self governing. Alarm systems are very complex and a Great Alarm technician will be paid over $100,000 a years The fact that there are no volunteers fire fighters is another blot on the reservations Populace. Somewere in the educationa complex there is a Facilities manager and a work force. Don't give any more funds withhout direct oversight!
Unbelievably disgraceful. Those kids are in a death trap. Don’t they care about the kids at all?? I am in utter disbelief. Someone should be fined or jailed. I thought we were living in the 21st century!!!
Is not having a bell really a huge issue? At my high school, we don't have bells. We just have a bunch of digital clocks everywhere and the teachers just look at the time for when we are dismissed.
Call a god damn electrician.
Rotten Apple *fire alarm technician *
They don’t have enough money
@Jack Spriggs, they had enough money, it went somewhere else than in fixing the alarms
Hell if i was at this school I would have fixed the fire alarm for free just for fun

If you decide to spend 2 million dollars on another school building that you never use, you should probably have enough money to fix your fire alarms.
They said the contractor took off and did not finish it. And how do you know that was not all the money they had?
Sweet Song well they kinda do. All the equipment seems to be there. They just can't seem to find people willing to be volunteer firemen/women..
if you watched the whole thing BIA did payed 500k so the schoolppl can fix it but it gone

Very informational. I didnt think it was maintnances fault. Obviously this is whoever handles the schools funds. Its a shame.

All the money education gets and they wasted. Too many administrators in special ed teachers.

My school also doesn’t have bells, but we have working fire alarms.

I would be willing to bet that someone lined their pockets and that this work was contracted out to some scumbag contractor which charged insane rates which caused them to run out of money. I would also bet that the politician that was involved with the most likely no bid contract had received campaign donations from the same scumbag contractor that was awarded with the contract.
lol prison is more safe
the entire situation was explained when they said who owns the school
form chad
Someones skimming BIA checks.
EXPOSED !
No fire alarm everybody goes outrage😂
Welcome to capitalism.
this has nothing to do with capitalism you dope in fact this situation more resembles socialism/corporatism
z lariviere20 Define socialism.
TheRedshirtBoy this has nothing to do with capitalism, it was a shitty contractor who gave up and scammed the government.
Are you fucking dumb what has this got to do with capitalism smh
Nick Pelton corruption.
That's The Worthless Politicians Fault.
I would GLADLY take the fire alarm stuff! XD
How much is the superintendent being paid? Lol
I would try and fix these things myself.
Is not having a bell really a huge issue? At my high school, we don't have bells. We just have a bunch of digital clocks everywhere and the teachers just look at the time for when we are dismissed.
But hey, the casino is probably thriving!
When I realized it was on the Navajo reservation I was like "oh that's why". 😂😂
