I never thought I would see ssl make a console that's 50k. Well done guys this is a smart move and have no recall or automation means that even 30 years from now the console will still work.
For anyone wondering if this sounds like a real 4K, I can't answer that but I can tell you that the dozens of capacitors in the audio path on each channel + the old 5534 opamps are no longer used in the modern SSL's, including this one. The 9K forward dropped the caps in the audio path and gave a cleaner sound known as SuperAnalogue. Dropping these parts lowered the maintenance needed but also dropped the classic sound that you may love or hate. I'm very curious what they've achieved with the transistor/FET arrangement in the Origin. And yes, no automation and recall makes this non-usable for large format studios. The lack of channel dynamics section can be compensated with a rack of 500 series or X-rack dynamics. Still a clever design and there absolutely is a valid market for this new desk.
@@JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION They're both great desks. I must say though, stock from the factory, the G+ desks are the one for the history books! Even an older E series can be taken to another level with the many ways to mod it. Can even be made to retain the "balls" of an E with the clarity of a 9k.
I love that they kept the monitor path!!! It’s like doubling your inputs! Everyone taking about “no moving faders” they sucked!! They broke constantly sometimes just moving on their own. Also I’m sure it would’ve been a major cost to add motors to every fader.
This is everything I've been looking for in a seemingly perfect arrangement. I will own one by this time next year, or as soon as I sell my current desk.
4000G is fantastic. Love how you have everything you need like dynamic section on each channel and recall (if you use it.) I guess if you sell your 4000G you could buy this console and have money for an X-Rack with dynamics but it's still missing a computer.
7:10 Freddy said “you could integrate with a Sigma right into this automation is necessary and you’d be able for example to automate those groups right inside your digital workstation users using the Delta plug-in, so nothing is out of the ordinary here it’s typical SSL.” But the ridiculous thing is that SSL discontinued Sigma.
So basically SLL is doing an Audient desk without the crazy routing capabilities with API's unity gain button. for +/- 50k. Smart but add another 15k for a pathcbay... Wondering how it sounds when hit hard.
I see Midas desks selling for $1500 that are true Midas British made analog consoles. I’m not sure why they think this is appealing. I’m sure it sounds good but I think the world is over an 8’ 250lb desk.
Hi Fadi, You make mention of the ability to integrate the SSL Sigma into the center section if there is the need of automation. But what about the possibility of integrating the Nucleus 2? That (IMHO,) could offer an even more extensive integration of DAW usage/control and automation for potential clients who may consider this console. Also, the current client base of Nucleus 2 users would have a natural path of progression, while extending the viability and life of both products. Thoughts?
This is probably more of a suggestion for SSL, but that is a great idea! I am not sure if it is possible from a product design stand point, but feel free to reach out if we can help out with any other questions. Thanks! I wonder if i will get this one or a used 4046 G special edition, which is the same console that Brian Hood & Will Putney have in their studios for mixing ?
coffeehigh420 I didn’t say all I said “not on a REAL desk”. SSLs, NEVEs, APIs the big boys try to keep you in the sweet spot. That’s how you know a board is meant for mixing.
JJDPRO MEDIAPRODUCTION ....looks like they were taken out of the channels and moved to the centre of the console (I saw about 8 of them). Most likely able to insert or sidechain them. :)
@@L.Scott_Music Sigma is a rackmounted unit which provides automation as an insert, which can really be used on any console, not just SSL. Sigma can also be used a summing box. Just don't expect any vibe out of the Sigma if not used with a console.
I'm fine with no fader automation and using the 0db option to set levels in the daw but SSL really dropped the ball with no recall for the knobs, especially the EQs.
Im new into this stuff..... my questions is.... is this the same thing like a dj mixer ? The only difference, it has more channels. In total of 32 and each channel has its own effects ... same thing in ableton only difference its digital not tangible
Not worth it in today's age. For $20k, I can build an analog setup that will sound just as good, if not better. No onboard compression is a huge turn-off. Track vocals with a Neve Shelford Channel. Track drums with an Apollo X8 and UAD plugins. Mix everything with SSL Native Plugins. Master the song with the SSL Fusion.
Haha.. Dude.. It's 2020, why the hell would console automation be a must? Most of people automate in the DAW anyway. Channel Compressors? 90% of the consoles don't have channel compressors anyway (unless it's a large format SSL, Neve or API). Their point is clear: they made a brand new simple 32ch analogue inline desk with excellent signal flow functions (and really smart work flow), with good preamps and EQs, that won't cost you a kidney. It's exactly what most of studios need.
The recall is still a bitch...!!......LOL I wish all the knobs were all automatable , So when you save a session and then come back to it a week or month later you can recall the entire console. I guess people are still going to have to use Bernoulli Disk and lots and lots of paper & Ink and take 2 hours to recall the desk. And even then, it wont be exactly the same as when you left it. This is why back in the day, Major recording artists locked the room sessions down for days and even weeks, Because they knew that they wouldnt get the exact recall back the way the song was left off. Yes it has flying faders, but the rest still remains un-automated, in this day in age of 2019 going on 2020 and beyond. I will always love SSL, but im seeing a lot of people buying AVID S6 more than SSL,, Neve or any other analogue desk. People want to recall their desk without taking several hours to do so.
wtf im laughing. Just... a whole fucking analog studio mixing whatever console, for 50K, so most people cant afford it, and most people arent producers, and most of those arent serious producers that will spend a lot of money on equipment.
