Watched your video, took your advice and bought new catch from Amazon (£27), looks identical in every way. I was a bit cautious on taking panels and trims off. but was OK. Marked round lock as in your video, replaced lock and tested. All back together no issues. Great Video - Thanks !
Thank you so much Timm for this video. I had the exact same problem and with this very thorough video I was able to complete the job in about 10-15 mins. In fact the only challenging thing was getting the plastic trim back on.
Thanks, repaired my machine gun trunk with your help ! Would warn about the 2 rubber screws on the bottom of the hatch : screwhead very fragile, one of mine would not rotate out so had to grab & pull it out.
Great video TImm. I am having the same problem with my 7-years old BMW M140i. However when I used a screw driver to push the latch, the lock still would not unlock, so I still cannot open the hatchback/door ! Is there any other way to unlock it from inside so I can open the hatchback/door ? Thanks.
Hi, i have a question. My boot doesnt open, it makes no noise at all even when pressing the button on the key, do you think its likely to be the catch? before i go and start buying things i'd appreciate your opinion. Thanks
Hi Timm, was that an F20 1 series? I think mine has gone as I keep getting a warning message on the idrive about the boot being open when I go over a bump. Want to get the part before I dismantle and remove the existing one. Thanks.
Great video, my tailgate latch died today and this was everything I needed to fix it. Super helpful thankyou!
Very useful video thanks.
Changed a One Series lock today.
Took me 5 seconds to open the hatch and ten minutes removing them pesky plastic rivets.
Nice work!

Get someone to press down on the hatch from outside whilst you push the latch across - that usually helps
Only video that worked, you are a hero!
My pleasure!
Great video! I just did mine and it works however I’m getting the machine gun noise when I open it. Any ideas?
That will either be the alignment between the catch and the striker or the replacement is faulty
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation thanks for your reply Tim. Got another replacement part today and works perfectly. Your video is very helpful
Thanks Tim saved me £30 today 👌🏾
That's what I do it for, thanks!
Cheers Timm, saved me money and nerves ;)
Good man!
Do you need a BMW computer to do a reprogramme after changing the lock? Thanks!
No, nothing clever in it!
Thx u I trust this will work on bmwi3 model
Worth a go!
Great video! Thank you.

Thought i'd add - i can open it using the cord from inside the boot. But apparently its an MOT failure so i need to fix it.
Yes, very likely to be exactly the same problem!
Hello, question did your old lock sounds like a machine gun when tried to open the trunk?
It did!
Great vid again. Cheers.
Thanks again!
Hi Timm this is Alvin your number one fan. Great video, very detailed. Did you get a new car?
Hello Alvin, good to hear from you! No, it's my daughters car!
Ok great. 😀

Thx Tim.

@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation Is the car your sister's new car. Flooded in the rain and wrongly try to started....
@@alioral1358 It's my daughter's - and yes, a replacement for the drowned one!
Hi Tim, mines the opposite, it will catch and open but not stay closed, is this an electrical fault? Thanks!
Yes, it's the catch and the same repair
What is the age and exact model of this 1series repair please? My wife's 116d is a 64 plate Uk model
My daughters car is a 2013 model, M-Sport 118i
Just pall the emergency release safety cord from the inside to open the boot. Then replace the faulty item. No need to be stuck in the car.
It doesn't have one!
I'm on my second locater in 10 years, the only that has failed.
Cheap parts these days!
what size is the catch screws?
It's a T40
