- Part 1 of a series of the Volkswagen Type 1 40/44 IDF Weber Carburetor.
We will just have some fun talking about how the Weber IDF evolved to become one of the most popular Horsepower add on's for Volkswagen air cooled engines.
Greg, looking forward to this series. I’ve got a set of IDF 40’s on my Manx type buggy. Always playing with them and still learning and looking for just the right combo. Keep it up 👍👍
It's all about the linkage....
Good to see you back!
Thanks I appreciate the support
I am currently restoring a barn find 1979 Fiat Spider 2000. Its all original and minus some minor surface rust, it's nearly mint. I was able to purchase it for $1400 and dragged it down the street to my house. I have grown fascinated with these cars, and it has reignited my passion for carbs. I now understand why the dual idf setup works so well on these! I have purchased an empi single carb, and it will do me for now until I have more income in the future. I still haven't driven it yet, but that will hopefully be this summer. I'll be going through the rest of your content. Im sure it's full of great information
I hope you get many smiles to the miles with your new project. Thanks for your comment
This is a very informative video on carburetors and their history. It's such a great find. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Glad you enjoyed it.;
👍 I recently sold my Kadron carburetors, and I'm going to be installing a set of 40 IDF carburetors in my bug. Looking forward to learning more about the history of weber's carburetors and how to work on them. Thanks for making the series. 😎
It will be a love hate relationship. The weber carbs seem to secretly know when your wearing nice cloths and in a hurry to go somewhere...... It's still worth it though :-)
How cold is the Weber 32 ADF carburetor automatic choke set?
Sorry, I don't know. Many people take the choke out and just pump the gas to help cold starts.
Very excited about this series. Can't wait for the next one!
I hope I don't disappoint everyone
EZGZ the king of carburetors
LOL..... Then I woke up! hehehe
Chines idf
Good or not
Ya got to ask yourself, are ya feeling lucky? Order over the phone. If they will stand behind they product and offer support.... Go for it. If your shopping cheapest deal, don't complain if you get f***ed. Take no prisoner's.
Man, this is great! Can’t wait to see the rest of the series!! Thanks so much once again for sharing your knowledge my friend. The out takes were awesome!
Thanks Gary. Keep on Rollin
Nice history on the WeberCarbs, I’ve never had them but listening to you makes me want them. Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned. You take care Buddy and stay safe. See you soon.👍. BigW:-)
Dual carbs are a pain. You have been down that road.
I can’t wait to learn more about these Weber’s. Just bought a 40 to mount on my 1641.
cb over top linkage ! JMHO
Yup. I want CB Strip Dominators on a 2442 . This is a start
I saw the headine just as I put down a very old Hot od mag where they were testing an engine at Scat performance ,trying different manifolds ,carbs and so on. The weber they used was a IDA and they describe the different jets etc they used to overcome that weber idle to run transition.
A few years ago I was asked to get an E type jag up and running. (i doubt it had ever actually been started since it was resoted 30 years ago) This thing was a V12 manual with SIX IDF's. A total and complete pig which took weeks to get running properly. I realised later it had the wrong style heads which affected combustion and robbed it of power. Get six carbs to work together is like herding cats, feral cats.
That sounds like a real challenge having to sort threw. That's probably why it sat for 30
Luva the outsa takesa Gregorio.
Hey EZ, it's Bryan in Portland. Thx for making this vid series, i need it. Stay safe, bud.
Will do my friend. I'm seeing a white vert with velocity stacks sticking up the back on that Strocker of yours.
God Bless
I was looking at the idea of building 4 into2 opposing inlet manifolds to stop the inlets on the same side scavenging from each other on the overlap, using a 2 barrell Webber. Apparently makes good power increase.
Looking forward to the series.
Let us know how that works out for ya
EZGZ... First of all, thanks alot for your all videos. :) I have a 74 autostick with 180mm clutch. What do you think about applying this weber kit to vw autosticks: pros & cons?
It's all good. A stock HD 180 clutch will work fine to 100HP easily
Cheer Greg, nice bunnet by the way . Noun. bunnet (plural bunnets) Alternative spelling of bonnet. (Scotland, New Zealand) A style of flat cap traditionally made from wool, commonly worn by farmers and country gentlemen in cool climates.
Nice, Thanks
Great series up to come +++ can‘t wait to see all of it. Oh and now I understand the „E“ in EZGZ stands for Eduardo 😂.
Hope you will talk about how to find and define the right carb setup for any engine. Meaning 40 vs 44, Venturis 28 vs. 32, jetting, exhaust, cams, lift and so on
Made me smile, Thanks Been working on the video
I always enjoy your videos got a pair of the 40-70 series webers on a spare engine Perfect performance as far as I can see on the bench. Running Dell 36's on my 71 Camper Bus.
Those 36 Dells are my favorite for a smooth running ride.

I got the same book about weber carburetors.
This series would be perfect if you explained it in the metric system hahahahaha
Thank you very much, I'm anxious waiting for the next episode!
I love the metric system.
Thanks for your videos this just came right on good time for me I’m in the process on installing an idf40 on my Renault 8
That sounds interesting...

Do you have any tips on how to remove the frozen Weber 40 IDF Auxilary Venturi 's ? I have looked in your IDF carburetors rebuilt videos and didn't find the answer unless I missed it.
I've taken a peace of 1/8 welding rod and made it like a J hook. Then about 12inches away clamp on a pair of vise grips. Then you just use something like a 3/4 box wrench around the welding rod to create a slide hammer and tapp gentley away on each side until it starts moving. Are you changing venturi's ? Good Luck with your project.

The carburetors, have oxidation between the venturi's and carburetor body. Both carburetors need a good cleaning. The carburetors were NOS.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle In your origanal comment you wrote auxiluri veturi which is the tube above them. For the venturi itself I have used a penatrating oil called blaster and used a propane torch to quickly heat the carb body. Then taking a sharp screwdriver blade and lightly tapp. Don't damage the aluminum. If they are stubborn put the whole thing in your freezer for 1hour and try the heat again.
I love the bugs/buggys anything air cooled VWs
Me too, but you can probably tell that :-)
Love the hat!
Loved my dual40 IDFs on my bus' 1776. Ran like a champ until I blew a chunk of lifter bore out. Getting ready to run them again after I get a new aluminum case.
I love my aluminum bubble top case. Best oil pressure of them all. Remember VW used aluminum to make the type 4 case so it can't be all that bad. Just make sure and line up the oil hole on #1 thrust bearing.
@@TheEZGZ thanks! Will do
Stay well.
EZ back in the saddle! I never owned an IDF...yet!!
They are a great thing to be part of your story......
TheEZGZ I watch all your videos! I seen quite a few on the IDF here! My buddy installed some type of valve for hesitation. He said it made a difference. Can’t remember the name now...
@@SladesVWBeetle Zero- Bypass coming up :-)
