    Glad you've been doing well EZ! The good old saying pay once cry once is so true, time can be related with money too so where do you want to spend it. Thanks for another great video just got back from a drive in the Volksrod, stretched its legs for the first time this year. 1914 with w120 cam, Spanish made 40 idf's with gene berg linkage still not needing to be touched. It's all old stuff I've had for over 15 years as long as it's maintained it'll last and be dependable

    Every EMPI part I’ve bought has never fit properly. Even the older “better” (or so I was told) stuff.
    I bought an EMPI exhaust at a swap meet years ago. When I got it home I noticed it looked a little.. cheap where the headers all met in behind the collector. I chopped the collector off and holy smokes, the pipes were all mangled at tips. They looked like they had been chewed to size.
    You get what you pay for :)

    EZGZ has a great point on carburetor to engine size. I am very happy with my single 40IDF on a 1968cc.
    But I would say, if you're thrifty and willing to get it figured out.
    For my setup, I was able to use a new Amazon returned carburetor. Made the adjustment ezgz talked about in a previous video he has.
    I purchased the empi intake and all weber parts off the samba.
    I'm into it less than 250. But it did take some time to get it dialed in.

    Firstly your looking great. you even sound great. 😳
    Anyway I've studied your videos and I'm with you we are buying crap. I've recently binned my piece of crap EMPI linkage setup. The dam thing just would not play the game. So i got in touch with Alistair at Gene Berg and he fixed me up with a linkage set-up. Now this thing cost me close on $800 Aus. but it works. It's made from quilty parts. So people if you want quality it may cost more at first but take it from me it's worth it in the long run.

    Thanks EZGZ, I'm new to VW beetle and thank you for your Honesty and share your experience. And start to learn quite good with these engine and still have a lot to learn. And agreed with you with the chunk. i got a 1975 beetle 1600 and if i don't mistake it was fuel injection and they convert to Carb the engine code AJ and have no mechanical fuel pump. It's a Dual port with 34 PICT-3 Carburetor(Solex) and they add a electrical fuel pump. At this moment the car running great and love it and i will love to modified with one bigger carb are dual carb and good quality. I'm the type love to take drive and no matter i love Mechanic i just don't want to have the need to do mechanic every time i shutdown the car like you mention. And what you think about a Single carb 40/44mm are I'm better with dual carb. Thank you again

    I just went through two months of hell after building my new 2110 trying to get clones to work. First it was the hpmx 40s i had on the engine before rebuild. After banging my head against the wall i decided to gamble on $89/ea 44s on ebay. They were filthy before i cleaned them and the vents wouldn't go back in because they were so mis-shaped. They ended up working exactly as bad as the hpmxs. I finally figured out what was wrong just last night, the air bleeds for the idles were too big! So i have to epoxy them closed and redrill them. Your sayin two months of hell just to save a buck? I don't know if I saved much, but the thing I did get is an education in how to make these carbs work. Bolt-ons are nice, but there's some sweat-equity in making something imperfect work good.

    • @speedbeagle6498
      @speedbeagle6498 4 місяці тому

      If I had advice to anyone thinking about buying empis hpmx kits Id say, buy the cheapest carburetors you can find as singles, buy some jet kits, and then buy a quality linage with the filter housings. I've heard CB makes a great one. Price all that, but compare it to a new complete kit from weber. If you already got jets and parts and pieces like i do now, it makes a little more sense to buy the clones. You still need good linkage though.

    If you go cheap, then be prepared to put in a little more effort to make it right. I bought some Harbor Freight tools that failed on me. Had a reciprocating saw that had the cast aluminum collar break, but had a 4' section of old rail because it was made of forged steel, then cut a piece of it and fabricate it into a collar that was the same shape (I had to Krazy glue the old collar to get the measurements). It was working fine after that. So if they want that EMPI to perform like a Weber, Dell, or Solex, put a little work into the carb, and it may be like a Web/Dell/Sol.

    I've used many pairs of the "clone" Webers, 40s, 44, & 48s. Yes they need to be "gone through" before fitting & they need to be matched in size to the spec of the engine. I've had excellent results from them all & for the money they are brilliant. The HPMIX are no where near as good & I won't use them. All of the Weber parts are interchangeable with the clones & if not for the weber name stamping, they are nearly identical. I've been building and tuning performance VW motors for over 40 years, I think Webers are expensive, we are buying a "name", but I always buy good quality linkage & manifolds/cleaners.

    Tuning my 44 webers tomorrow. Installed the Gene Berg linkage and looking forward getting them set. Carbs with linkage were 1179$ from CB. Worth it! The linkage started getting loose quickly though(Baja). The heims joints just don't hold up to exposure to the elements well. Bought the Berg linkage and it seems much sturdier. What do you lube your Baja and rail linkage with? Thanks! Burrito time!

      Oil just collects dirt on off road cars. Maybe some penetrating oil and wiggle things and then wipe it off.
      You will love the GB linkage. I have 2 set ups and they work sweet and stay in adjustment. It looks like home made junk to the untrained eye but so tunable with the right length to work correctly. I thought bending the end peace's to fine tune was a little mickey mouse but it works. Some light oil and or dry powered graphite works go on all types of linkage. You can look for the kind the locksmith would use. A plastic bottle will last forever.

      @TheEZGZ  9 місяців тому +1

      Probably too much gas pressure if it’s electric fuel pump. You need separate fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure gauge. Weber carbs need less than 3 PSI or you will never get it to run right. Also check your float level I have videos posted on all that stuff. Like and subscribe to my main channel and do a search from there.

      Do you think if i get rid of the electric fuel pump and go with the stock pump it would work better?

      Would it be a bad idea to seal those two plugs?

      @@nikittoo1 don’t mess with those plugs. Do what I told you. First you have to know the existing pressure.

    which carburettor is better for its original 1300 model carburettor: Brosol or classic?

      Both the Broxol and the solex are legendary for quality. I ran a 30 P.I.C.-1 Solex on my single port and never had a problem super easy to adjust.
