Drew, I really enjoyed this video guessing because the concept somewhat appealed to me, but only as a second house. Maybe a place to escape to for weekends. Life is always changing, sorry to hear of some of the issues but we too made major mistakes in purchases at young ages. So nice to see someone caring so much about what their children eat.
Thanks Donna! I don’t totally regret it, but we’ve definitely outgrown the space after having two kids. It was really perfect for Stephanie and I before we had kids. But we are going to transform a new space into a home and we’re really excited about it. And we’re going to transform our tiny house into an office space/utility room so it will still serve a purpose for us.
I enjoy your videos, and am going back to see the ones I missed since I am a new subscriber. This one is my favorite so far!! You managed to be humorous and have such a good attitude thru it all!! Really happy for you that you are building a small barn into more living space.
💯. It's really difficult living in a tiny house with a kid. I REALLY miss having a dining table too. Not being able to sit and eat together destroys family culture.
I agree so much. That’s why we’re slowly transitioning into a larger home, well slightly larger. We got a 500 square foot two story barn we’re going to convert into a home and hopefully start living in over the next few months. Having space for a dining table is top Of the priority list for sure.
I had a really tough time with my builder as well. And I'm still dealing with infrastructure issues from the build (walls literally falling down). I've had mine for 4 years and can agree that it's been a more difficult experience then not. THOWS need to be accepted and regulated like modular are.
Sorry to hear that, I've heard that from others as well. I also don't think ours was insulated properly because we can feel wind coming in through cracks in the walls on one side of the house. Thanks for watching
Thanks for your transparency. We've rehabbed an old home, lived in an RV for 6 years, and tried to rehab an old double-wide. We've done a lot of things ourselves, but there are some things that are just above our pay grade. We've had the full gamut of experience dealing with incompetent workers, to "friends" who hire x-jail birds and outright con artists and thieves....and the Tennessee Licensing Board, Insurance Board, etc. DAs, small town lawyer all seemed to be in their back pocket, or vice versa. Always best to do yourself, if you can.... And if your tiny house contractor was who I think it may have been, I think he got into trouble for taking money from customers and not delivering.....Slabtown in Arkansas....loved some of his designs, but I didn't trust him.....
Agreed it’s always better to do as much yourself as possible. And you’re right about the builder, I didn’t even want to mention his company or name because I wouldn’t want others to even consider using him and going through what we did.
Oh my goodness I can can so relate to the experience you had with the builder. This isn’t our first time but our second. We are currently living in our vacation camper while we wait for our Barndo to be completed. He said it would take 6-8 weeks to finish. Well He didn’t start on it for the first 6 weeks and only finally did when we kindly expressed our concerns to his business partner then he was here the next day. Needless to say it has now been almost 8 months and we are still maybe only 3/4 of the way done. We just won’t be able to recommend him at all and that’s about all that can be done. Leaving justice in Gods hands. We will get timelines/expectations in writing with any contractor in the future. If it isn’t complete, they will have to give something back of monetary value. It’s the only way these days. Unfortunately people tend to take advantage of others more often than not. If you are a builder reading this, PLEASE do not lie, and just be honest with your customers!
Sorry you’ve had to deal with that as well, we learned a lot from the experience but the main lesson was sadly not to trust people so much and take matters into our own hands.
What would be great is if people who have genuine concerns about their builder - it would do us all a great service if names of companies can be provided to help us all out. After all, Amazon is great because people are able to leave reviews and I've used them mulitiple times to help me decide whether or not to spend my hard earned $$ on them.
Our builder no longer makes tiny homes so I didn’t feel the need to call anyone out but I agree with you. We should’ve done more due diligence on our builder before choosing one.
I live in less than 400 sq ft it's okay for me but if I had a husband or a child living with me it would not be possible to live in such a tiny space so I understand what you're saying
I think you need to make your own build and not pay someone to do it. Make a list if things you want then map it out and make that happen. I just saw your video from the tiny home expedition and I thought looking at it. That’s a crappy build. I think it’s always better to make your own stuff. It seems like all the tiny home owners love their home because they built it. We live in an RV and we are constantly modifying it and building things for better functionality. We plan to make our own tiny home in a few years. We’re building it on site.
Yeah I 100% agree with you that’s what we’re actually working on with our barn, I’m doing it all myself. We want to make the barn home have everything we wish we had in the tiny house. I’m taking my time because it’s the first time I’m doing any of this kind of thing but I’d rather do it myself than pay to have someone else do a crappy job.
