📌 Don’t hesitate to ask any questions about the Spectacles. I’ve used them A LOT over the past two weeks and since their original release! 💡 For more information about this AR Glasses check out: spectacles.com
what are the rules to apply? I read on their site but after the 12 month you need to give the glass back to them? You can keep but with you dont pay the subscription you lose access to the dev kit software? What happens after the 12 month period? I can cancel the subscription and still develop for it?
Hey Artur super cool to see you here! and I am glad this video gave you a better understanding about this AR Glasses. There is a lot more I will cover in the near future! Thanks for your comment!
Nice review and walkthrough through a simple development flow. What sadly kills it all is the battery life (as you also mentioned). I cannot think of developing an experience for this and even suggest this to a business for an experience with that kind of battery life. they would have to have 2 backup glasses on standby for each spot in order for this to work. I do hope Snap has something up their sleeves to fix this on a small revision. I don't mind having a small cable to a battery pack similar to other solutions out there if that means hours instead of minutes.
Hey Markus thanks for your comment. You can actually get your own battery pack and connect it to the glasses, I ended up doing that with this video and it worked extremely well. 45 mins gives me enough time to run a few demos but you are right not enough if you have multiple people testing the experience. Another option is simply to have them connected to your laptop while you do development or demos. Thanks for your feedback!
This is an really impressive device! I like the development structure very much, it's very intuitive and easy to learn. Can't wait to see the upcoming XR devices and apps!!
nice video man lens studio has actually been nice to work with after you get used to its quirks.Think i might do ui redesign that container frame from ui examples folder and try there mobile as a device controller over the next few days.
Yes they provide access to the "Camera Module" take a look at it from here: developers.snap.com/spectacles/about-spectacles-features/overview#camera-module
can we use other 3rd party softwares for this such as Unreal Or Unity? as it will be easier that way to port said software to other AR platforms/devices. Thus encouraging Devs to build apps for these AR glasses.
I had the exact same question, currently you can’t but there is a component called “CameraKit” which may be helpful to bring Snap technology to the web and also mobile apps. More info here: ar.snap.com/camera-kit Also, SIK (Spectacles Interaction Kit) is very similar to Unity XR Interaction Kit, which will make it very easy to convert to Unity if you really wanted to take a prototype from Snap to Unity.
Hello Dilmer, I've seen a lot of your videos and you've helped me so much to learn everything about VR... I'm working on a college project and I need help on Unity Netcode basically I've already have two players in a scene... the Host can grab a grabbable object and move with it and the client can see the changes, but when the client tries to grab the object it doesn't even let him grab the object.... I've given the authorization to the client because of the Server-Authotitative thing and did'nt help :(
Thanks a lot for your kind words and support. As a quick work around, take a look at this video, I believe I implemented the multi-user grab feature with this: ua-cam.com/video/pl6Pbb43E-Y/v-deo.html let me know if that works for you. Thank you!
@@dilmerv Thank you for making those videos for us! I saw those videos, and all you did was perfect and should work... but my project is a little bit different because my networkplayer object is different, and I syncronize the hands of the NetworkPlayer with the XROrigin prefab, basically the script says that if IsOwner is true then align X,Y,Z and rotation of the XROrigin with the X,Y,Z and rotation of the hands of NetworkPlayer... and im using direct interaction, not the ray interaction... Me, as a client, can perfectly see the changes the host is making (grab and moving the grabbable object) but when the client wants to grab and move the object (even with the function you gave in the networkplayer for grabbable objects by giving the authorization) it does nothing, even with the client transform network script.... I just want to see the client grabbing and moving the cube and see the changes in the host... just that and I dont want to give up... im really stuck :(
Yes definitely a big investment and something to consider before getting the glasses. Personally, I see it more as an investment, it allows you to develop extremely quickly as well as testing. But I understand your concerns! Thanks for your comment.
Yep I'm a developer but can't afford to spend $99 per month for a year while developing something for a product that may never be released to consumers.. they've locked out small devs
Really looking forward to having some type of support with other engines, I agree that it will drastically open it up to a lot more people. Currently, they have “CameraKit” which allows you to take Snap features to the Web & Mobile. Thanks for your comment!
I dont understand thier mindset. Do they want their device to sell or not?? Asking devs to pay subscription in order for them to build apps for your glasses is madness. I mean unless devs build apps for this thing, no body is going to buy them. IT doesnt matter how cool a piece of hardware may be, if the software is not there, it wont sell. I just dont understand. Unless they mean to say that these glasses are free for developpers?? So the devs have to then pay a subscription.
I understand your concerns, and I appreciate your comment! To give you some insight, Snap provided free units to over 80 developers, but these were given to individuals who had already created Lenses and dedicated significant time and effort to the ecosystem and Lens Studio. As for other developers, I don’t think this device is intended for everyone, nor do I believe Snap wants it to be. Right now, it’s a dev unit, and limiting the number of developers may actually be beneficial. It allows Snap to iterate and improve the device before releasing a consumer version, which could come with a different pricing model and perhaps more accessible to developers. Thank you again for your comment and for taking the time to share your thoughts!
@@dilmerv Thank you for the response. Now I see what they are doing. So basically they are still working on a functionning product that could be released in the future and this is more like an iteration.
Well only rich devs can afford to pay 99$ pm. And when a dev can't pay it to dev, users are definitely not gonna pay to play. Still, I don't see much difference in tech here other than device structure. Enlighten me with references.
Can what we make in this studio be output to a website for the user to use? Not SnapChat or Glasses. People don't want those. And they don't want 99 dollars a month either. So can what we make on your software be put on a web page for people to access via their cell phone? That's the way to go. I am talking normal people. Not a company that can shell out 99 bucks a month LOL. OK. Simple. I want my user to open their camera. Focus on a QR code. Goto a webpage and experience the AR. Simple as this. No other app download needed. No need to be on Snap Chat. Yes or NO.
@@dilmerv Thanks for your response. I am gonna down load this now. I am currently using another AR creation software - but am tied to their ecosystem. Which is fine, but I want options to deploy on my own site.

Great intro Dilmer! Was great to meet you at both Lens Fest and Meta Connect!
Likewise it was a pleasure and looking forward to meeting you during future events!
Great video and great review! Definitly, this is the future!!

Great video, Dilmer!
Do you know if there is Camera access through lens studio on the spectacles (can you scan QR code for example)
Yes access to the camera is available, take a look at this info: developers.snap.com/spectacles/about-spectacles-features/overview#camera-module

Does it work if you have prescription glasses
You can get prescription inserts during the ordering process, I don’t believe prescription glasses would fit. Good question!
can i buy this product in spectacle web page??
You can find the steps to do so here: www.spectacles.com/lens-studio great question!
trust me SNAP, you're not that guy
Trust me these are very good 😉 🕶️
How is it compared to Meta Orion?
Great question, all I can say this is out and the other is a prototype still so it wouldn’t be a fair comparison 😉
how much FOV?
This new Spectacles have a 46-degree field of view, which is larger than the 26.3-degree field of view from the previous version. Good question!
