I remember when you had 20k subscribers and I knew we were on to something. I remember when you had 40k subscribers and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't 400k, I was actually commenting and getting frustrated that you had more likes and thumbs up on some posts than subscribers. It's a slow crawl just like being behind the wheel, but you Shawn, and Mike are badass dudes. Special shoutout to Shawn and Mike who are unique and interesting in their own ways. Shawn makes you wonder more about who he is, his life, family, etc. just a super chill dude. Mike is just one of those guys that comes along every 40-50 years in the world that is just up for anything, super ready to go, and the best friend we all wished we had. You are all great on your own ways. Can't wait to see what the New Year Brings. HNY
6:40 It's a special kind of irony that the best channels are unique and a little different but then people get mad when you don't build it the same way everyone else does. Love the videos thanks for sharing.
Guys, I have built at least 100 speciality fuel tanks in my 45 years as a fabrication guy for customers and myself, you have done an exemplary job on that tank!!!!! Great build!!
Doesn't the center slosh shield need another hole on the bottom for pass thru? Or does the incomplete welds on the bottom and sides let fuel level out quickly enough?
Are you welding malleable iron couplings? They shrink at a different rate than steel. I’m afraid I sound like the internet, but buy some steel couplings. (Not thread protectors, their threads aren’t tapered.)
The very fact that you can make that old tiny truck safe and truly working and road worthy is amazing. The fact THAT YOU HAVE FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE IT A WRECKER is a true testimony to your engineering and fabrication skills
All the "experts" telling you how wrong you do things are doing their job perfectly!!! Every comment they make feeds the Algorithm!!! Wrecker is looking great! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Gee…Baja racers and circle trackers have been running rearward radiators for decades…kinda a proven effective concept lol!!! Y’all are doing beautiful work. You know what you’re doing and what works. Enjoying the build and excited to see it in use!!
Rory, back in 1971 a pipeline welder made me a Flat Bottom gas tank for my Suburban. He made it precisely the way you did, it was full width of the truck, so it had 3 partitions. and the only passage between the Partitions, was a 1" notch at each corner at the Partitions of the tank. for my purpose, he installed a pipe collar at the left rear corner, and a valve... the valve led to a copper tubing that was fed into the regular gas tank hose. Used it for 30 years, never failed us. That valve was electric, I flipped a switch on the Dash to refill the Suburban's gas tank.
I really like this build, good job Trail Mater team! The fuel tank should work great and the cooling system should be sufficient for sure. looking forward for more build content.
Man maybe it's because we're welcoming in the new year, but Lily's excited, "Thanks for Watching!" really warmed my heart and brought me some much needed joy tonight. Have a great 2025 ya'll.
Oh wow this Trail Mater Team are the best at making gas tanks, roll bars, etc. for whatever the rig needs to move it forward in progress to get er done! Always such a treat to see Lilli riding with Dad! Good video! Mike runs a good bead with the welder it looks awesome!
I love the cab extension that Hector did classic. Work from a skilled tradesman. The free hand forming and vision you do is awesome. One of a kind this truck, this channel, and these guys happy new year.
Fabrimagification= Rory and crew making what they want and it Works like magic. Thanks for another great year of shows. Happy New Year to everyone there, and those who watch.
Tip when using a step drill, put it in a impact driver. When the step drill catches, it simply hammers it to keep going. Honestly a bit violent, but it beats killing your wrists.
What i learned from watching these guys; 1. Weld in 2x speed no slower. 2. Have lots of grinder disks. 3. Dont doubt the process. 4. Have lots of spare parts in the backyard!
when I saw that you guys butted the baffle to the bottom of the tank with no space underneath for fuel to move across both sides I THOUGHT about making a comment but then Mike explained the rest of the design with the sump at the bottom 😅looking good, glad to see you guys working on this truck, it's a really cool project
Rory and clan are very talented in what they build. Trail Mater is the ultimate example of build for purpose rigs that I have ever seen. Mini Mater cracks me up. Awesome. You guys build for purpose. Not for show. And you capability demonstrates that.
You know exactly what your doing people have nothing better but to complain and think they know better. Keep it up! You and your crew do amazing things. You all be blessed.
I bought a new chevy 4WD Pickup in 77 and one of my 1st stops was a welder friend of mine. He built me a 60 gallon gas tank to fit in the bed. He did a fine job other than he forgot to put any openings in the baffles. Took it back to him and he cut holes in the bottom and notched the baffles. patched the holes he cut in the bottom of tank. Only took about a month for the inside of the tank to start rusting. He ended up building me a new tank for free. Shows even the best can make a mistake. I'm guessing you have made a few and have learned from every one. Your videos show you dam sure know what you are doing. Keep them coming
Man, for me who love rory's shop/build videos, those last few weeks has been so awesome ! Between the modification of the buggy, Mini-mater and now Robby's wrecker, what a time to be alive and Watching TrailMater channel !
Builds like this makes us all dreamers. To have the knowledge of what will work is something you only learn the hard way. Between the three of them they could write a book on what not to do.
Mike did a great job fabricating the tank with all the cutting and welding, I'd definitely pressure test it for leaks though, not that his welds are bad its just the way it happens with steel welds, Good Job!
Having made fuel tanks as well, and building fabricating for over 30 years, I think the fuel tank idea is genius with the small lower sump. The radiator may get debris from the top, but nothing that a simple louvre or angled cover wouldn't solve down the road if needed.
Watch out Mike Lilly is coming for your passenger seat filming job haha, She did great, life’s problems won’t slow her down after seeing what pops and the guys do all the time. Awesome foundation
As always great job guys, love your content. I hardly ever comment on your videos. I just want to counteract all the naysayers. Love your videos, keep up the great work.
Rory,,,, I’ve watched ALL THE BUILDS PUT ON UA-cam…. I like yours the best!!! I’m into the builds , not so much the other filler!! Keep on ! Let the naysayers, say nay!! They don’t pay for you to play ,,,,, you pay your own way… 😊
I am glad to see you involving your daughter on your recovery. My oldest daughter is 31 years old now, and I involved her with helping me bleed the brakes on my car when she was around 8 years old. You will never regret these times together, so enjoy every opportunity. For me as a father I was a single parent since she was 1.5 years old, I had to do most of the duties of both parents until I remarried 8 years later and have a beautiful Godly wife and three additional children. Merry Christmas Lilly and Happy New Year 🎉
Well I have been entertained for years here, so thanx fellas I give you a 10.5/10. So far I have 1.5 objections. The .5 is the Ol vs the Ole blue thing, whatever. The 1 thing is. On Robbies truck, his rear fenders have huge sand, snow, and mud holes in them. He may want to put some minners moss back there when he tries to take it up hanging tree. Lol😅 The name of his truck could be "The SluceBox"
I don’t say anything negative about your builds I don’t have the expertise to criticize! After spending a few years of maintenance and fabrication I enjoy watching your builds!
Fine job as always gentlemen, Robby is gonna be amazed when he sees that tow truck, that is unless he's cheating and watching the build lol. Thanks for the video guy's 👋
Gas tank is looking really good!! Great design team!! LOL!! I always check a fab tank with air. About 7 lbs. should do it. That way, if it needs re-welded, you don't have any contaminates in the weld. 😁 I know you guys have done thing a lot, so you know what works for you. Sorry you had to make that long drive for nothing but we really like seeing Lily!! She is such a doll!!
Rory....the true followers of your channel know not to question you, Your a specialist....your vehicles are top notch when it comes to batteling Mother Nature...That is is not easy....Keep it up!
Agreed! Robby gets the very last Moab Motorsports custom rig!
I question him because I like seeing him ramble and explain stuff lol
Making the sump into a kind of miniature surge tank is a pretty smart move. You can tell they have done this before.
Naah, bro,,,,best thing IS to tease him,,like with the most ludicrous suggestions,,like welding extra bars into the left seat supports,,exra supports..skinny guy gets a flat plate with a boat cushion..
@@Fix_It_Again_Tonyjust because it worked a dozen times before doesn't mean it will work again. 😂
You all are true fabricators, anyone who has been watching for any amount of time know not to question you designs. Awesome job.

@@ryansxtn313 My thoughts too.
Oops. Never mind. I paused it before the next thing he does is weld the sump at the bottom.
Are you welding malleable iron couplings? They shrink at a different rate than steel. I’m afraid I sound like the internet, but buy some steel couplings. (Not thread protectors, their threads aren’t tapered.)
Copy, there will be pass thru holes on both sides of the baffel.
All the rigs you have running and maintain are a testimony to the fact that you know what you are doing!
Great video!

I always feel that you all do know what you are doing. You have built enough rigs to know what works and what doesn't.
I admire that you guys put yourselves out there for ourselves ! I know you wont change anything !
Robby's wrecker is coming along nicely. looks like it should be very capable when you get it finished. It's also going to look good.
Rory , i don't know whether you are a veteran of not; thank you for displaying our on your wall. If you are a veteran ; thank you for your service .
Thank you Rory , Mike , Shawn and Lily for sharing this with me ! Robby's AA Model wrecker is looking great !
More shop work on Robbie's Wrecker ! Digging that ! Thanks for sharing !

I can definitely see an issue with that tank... aint got no gassss in it. 🤣Happy new year to you and the team.

I wish I was as clueless as you three are when it comes to fabrication. Lol....Keep up the amazing work Gentlemen.
Rory is the dirt road version of Jesse James. And I definitely mean that as a compliment. This crew is absolutely awesome at what they do.
There's nothing you guys do that worries me too awful much. Keep doin' what you do. Happy New Year. Thanks, guys.
I love this build....

The best was from Lilly at the end . She's great 👍
Another great video, Happy New Year everyone at Trailmater!
3:40 to 4:00 Shawn performing like a Teppanyaki Japanese Chef!! Love it...
I'm sorry I'm stealing that one. "Well they're all evenly off..." 😂😂😂 Too damned funny

Excellent work!
Finally something worth watching today thanks and have a happy new year! 🍻
Did not expect the Bob Ross quote. 😀
So wise , Thank You. If You think it will work , it will work . If not you and the team will rebuild until it does. More fine scenery

I agree wholeheartedly with e.r.32!!! You are VERY practical and have the experience needed with these projects. Keep up the great work!!

11:00 should have burgers ready to go - cook on the hot sump! Yummy. Gotta alive the Lily energy at the end! Merry Christmas indeed
Rory, the truck looks so cool, the vision from your head to actual truck must be satisfying
That’s a fine looking tank and your radiator design is genius.

That was some nice camera work Lily! You did a great job capturing the scenery as you guys drove up to the pass! Keep it up and happy holidays!

I was confused at first about the gas tank design, until you started building the sump.. LOL
They said in a previous video that the tank would have a sump
Keep up the good work, looks good guys 👍👍
Thanks for the video guys the ole truck is looking great
