- In March 2022, the Patriots Point Development Authority Board voted to recycle the ex-USS Clamagore submarine due to safety and environmental concerns. The decision came after more than a decade of examining alternative options.
A contract with Coleen Marine was signed through emergency procurement in August 2022. Work began soon after to prepare the submarine for the trip to Norfolk, VA, where it would be recycled. On October 14, 2022, the Clamagore was towed out of its berth. It arrived in Norfolk three days later.

I'm glad to have visited the USS Clamagore in the past , My Late Father's best friend was stationed on her , who sadly passed away in 2019 , RIP 🇺🇸Gallant Lady and all who served on her ! 🇺🇸
Miss you rest in peace. My first summer to be on as a museum ship. And hopefully you guys preserve parts of her and her own beautiful exhibit.
Have you guys looked at rescuing the USS LING from New Jersey? Last I heard, she was closed, and no plans for the late war BALAO class sub...

Who was supposed to maintain during its museum ship service? It's a shame that it's gone to scrap, but I'm glad I had the chance to visit before the Clamagore closed to the public forever.
