I remember this song when I was a kid in the 1960s and listening to the Kingston Trio songs. Always loved their music.

Thanks very much for this. A wonderful tribute to the wonderfully talented Nick Reynolds. RIP Nick :) your music always made me smile. I always loved his vocal style and the harmonies he added to the others' songs, but especially liked "Little Boy" from Something Special, and the fun they had after he missed his cue on MTA on "Live at the Crazy Horse" really shows the love they had for each other.

I first delevoped my ability to harmonize by listening to my older brother's Kingston Trio albums. It was Nick, in particular, who showed me how it was done. During the time he rejoined the group, I got to talk to him before and after the show. I walked up to him and said, "I do believe it's the man who taught me harmony!" He got a big smile on his face and introduced himself to me, but I told him that he didn't have to, as I knew exactly who he was! Sometimes when you meet a hero, they aren't very nice, but Nick was a gentleman! As far as his tenor guitar goes, I've always been curious about his 8-stringer. I know he used it for a short time, and said that it was hard to hold tune. I'd like to know where it is, these days, and what recordings he used it on.

What a nice story and reflection on the guitar and the special person Nick Reynolds was. I toyed around with guitars, but was never a good player but did so much appreciate the tenor and the group(Kingston Trio). You did a great job on this video, thanks.

    Jerry,
Great job! Fred Thompson sent this along to me. I played with Fred in the StringAsylum and a couple of times with Fred in a Swagmen reunion. I grew up in Coronado and knew Nick casually, even lived on his block on the opposite end of B Ave., for years. Nike was an icon in Coronado as you might imagine. You made me go out and learn this amazing song. THX!

Beautiful! Once Jerry told me by email he intends to write a book of his memories in the music business. Hope he doesn't delay. First time I see pictures of Frank Werber. I don't know why I thought he was then an older man.

This is NOT the guitar Nick Reynolds used in the Kingston Trio. That guitar, the one in all the photographs is mine as it was handed to me personally by Nick Reynolds, my cousin, in September 1963. There's not a photon of doubt about this. It is my guitar in ALL the photos and album covers of this period of the Trio. Nick was my adopted father, mentor, and closest friend during this life. The guitar shown in this video was probably one of several that Frank Werber had, but it is not Nick's.

I'm glad you were close to Nick. Not disputing your claim, nor Jerry's. Any possibility that Nick owned more than one tenor guitar during the KT years? Both stories could essentally be correct. Jerry could now own a tenor formerly owned by Nick, a spare perhaps, but not a favored one, correct?

Thanks. Though it was sung by Bob Shane it's moving because we hear Nick Reynolds supporting him in the chorus.

Agreed. Nick DID NOT use that guitar on Make Way, and probably NOT on any other. I have photos of the real deal and have played and used it. There is definitive photographic proof. The guitar that Jatisrose and I speak of is the real deal and was used during the time period from the Make Way LP through #16. Comparison of the Make Way LP cover and the instrument Jerry is using in this video will show it is not a match. Jerry, nice tribute and video. Love your stuff, but that's not Nick's guitar.
