what a wonderful man !!!! I met him in 1991 when I was an opening act to them in Middletown NY. I was a young solo guitarist/vocalist. at the end of my 4 song performance I looked over to see Scott standing to the side of the stage clapping. as I walked off the stage he shook my hand and thanked me. it was the best day of my musical career ever. RIP Scott, that special moment had a dramatic effect on my life. Thank you, you will be remembered !
Great story, wonderful man. I lived right near the Trident in Sausalito. It was the place to be in the early seventies. Music, entertainment and young women.
I saw Scott live at Potter's Club in Frimley, UK just a few years before he passed. He was great to see and his songs and singing in the sixties were just wonderful. Listen to 'Stained glass morning' & you will be moved. Thanks for posting this, there's not enough of Scott on UA-cam.
One of the truly great and unfortunately little known voices of the 20th century--other than San Francisco. (Check out his rendition of Tim Hardin's "Don't Make Promises." It's stunning.) I wish he had recorded more. His voice was truly beautiful. Love hearing these stories--thanks for posting! RIP, Scott. You are missed.
It is not known that he co-wrote one of the biggest Beach Boys hits: "Kokomo". He co wrote that hit with "Mamas and the Papas" John Phillips and the Beach Boys, Mike Love. His career was tied up with The Mamas and the Papas, since he was a friend of John Phillips and he with Lou Adler, produced his biggest hit "San Francisco",.
Really dug Scott from tye 1966/7 period. Loved his tune, Makes no Difference. What a deep study of introspection & the development of the self, which many of us went through during those heady times. 'Trying to find oneself, without losing it along the road of life & discovery. Man, those were indeed enlightened times. Many never found themselves or made it 'back home', while others lifted the veil & saw wondrous things Here at 74 years old, I see the world as a very different place. Advanced yes, but not wise. Go lister to the Johnny Rivers album, Realization. He does a great cover of Makes no Difference as well. The whole album, tells a collective story.
Great story. Those were the days when music was expressing the times and telling the truth. There will never be a decade that changed culture like the 1960s.
Scott MacKenzie.... great man with a beautiful voice. However he does have one of his facts wrong at the 2:38 mark where he states "Eric Weissberg wrote Dueling Banjos." In actuality, Arthur Smith & Don Reno wrote this back in 1955 with the original title "Feuding Banjos." After "Deliverance" came out in 1972, Arthur Smith sued Warner Brothers over this very claim that Weissberg wrote the famous banjo classic instrumental especially for the movie. Smith won a sizable, but undisclosed, amount of money. He wouldn't say how much he was awarded, but would instead would point to his 46 foot yacht and proclaim "Warner Brothers bought that for me!"
Beautifull life story so glad that we have this media to see such great people thankyou Scott did we not want to all want to go to Frisco I did and live on the other side of the world then
