You are a rockstar! Had this completed in thirty minutes! The sensor solved my problem-truck wouldn’t start unless the key was turned over two different times. Now it’s back to normal!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Did you go back with ac delco part ? I’m having the same issues you described .

      @cdil23 9 місяців тому

Yes, AC Delco. I have another project 5.3 that I robbed the sensor from. Had already changed the fuel psi regulator and fuel pump with no difference. Gas gauge was wacky so the fuel pump/ sending unit replacement wasn’t a waste of time but didn’t fix this particular problem.

This video just helped me change out the sensor on my 2006 Silverado 2500 with the 6.0. Took me an hour in the heat with all the fumbling I did. The engine bay is so big it was easier for me to sit on the intake manifold and do it. Thanks for sharing!

I came back to let everyone know this works great! On my 03 Suburban Thank you so much for this video saved me so much work.
    TIPS:
    -The extension is ESSENTIAL
-Use your bare hand to feel around
-Undo the plug first, mines had a red color wire going to it(should help identify)
-Feel next to the open connector hole and the bolt will be there
-Attach the extension first, then the handle
-After getting the bolt free, the sensor may be stuck(to get the sensor unstuck I used a 3ft long nylon cord and tucked it under the connector of the sensor. While pulling on the cord from above, wiggle it side to side. This should free it)
-when plugging my sensor back in it bulged up a bit so I used the extension and a hammer to lightly tap it down and screw it back in
-use your fingers to catch the bolt before you attach the extension.
I wish everyone the best!! Thanks again

Anthony Anthony don’t recommend prying to hard on the lip of the sensor because how long it is, could break off inside. I wrapped nylon around it to help work it side to side any flexible wire could work.

Awesome video. Thanks for posting. I was getting ready to pull the intake. You are the only one that I have found on the internet that demonstrates how to do it this way. I am a 65 year old man and not as limber or agile as I used to be. However, I decided to give this a try. If you will follow the video instructions it WILL work. And if I can do it, you younger guys for sure can do it. It took me about 20 minutes the first time. I could do it in half that time when/if I have to do it again. Once again, THANKS. This saved me several hours of extra work.

Thanks so much for this video. I just finished this on my 1999 5.3L Silverado. The check engine light was on and the code was P0343. I had the intake manifold gaskets replaced about two months ago and was dreading the idea that it would have to be removed again. So glad I was able to replace the camshaft position sensor without removing anything but the plastic engine cover. I had trouble getting my arm/hand behind the engine in the right position to remove the electrical connector with the sensor in place, but I was able to remove the bolt, pry out the sensor and then remove the electrical connector once the sensor was out of the hole.
Now my truck is starting easily on the first try and the check engine light hasn't come on again. Thanks again!

This video is made for a perfect world where the sensor just ,well …pops out ….as he said but in the real world the sensors Are cooked it to place and don’t just pop out….I tried doing it this way and it’s extremely difficult to get that sensor out because there’s really no room to work with when it’s stuck in place, what worked for me was taking the intake off And getting a good pair of Channel lock pliers and pulling that sucker out , it was not easy so take note this may not work for you but if it does you don’t have to take to takeoff and that’s the good news… Keep on rocking

9 inches of extension, short socket. Can feel the bolt with the left hand. Feed socket in from the right. Directly behind the the intake plenum. You can just see the top of the extension. Use a push button ratchet. Push the button, drop into the extension.

Great video. I've replaced the sensor on our 2001 Suburban once before and it's gone bad again. The first time, I removed the intake manifold and a bunch of other stuff. It was a real challenge. Looking forward to trying the no-look method. I may wait and try it on a moonless night.

Thank you so much for doing this video. Everything I had read and seen required the removal of the intake manifold to access the cam position sensor, then I found this. I used this method yesterday and it worked great. I would suggest getting a Borescope because the hardest part was trying to locate the sensor, harness plug, and bolt by touch and using a mirror. I've seen borescopes for less than $20 on Amazon that plug into your phone. With a scope, I could have done this in under 20-minutes.

Got it done. 02 Silverado 1500. I suggest watching 1A Auto's video at the part where it's exposed to precisely understand where the sensor is located and oriented. Once I did that it was pretty simple. Had to put one knee on the alternator and bear hug to reach it. Put a little oil on the o-ring. Started right up. No error codes.

The fuel rail sits higher , I had to take out the 4 8mm screws holding down both sides of the fuel rail and pop the injectors out to shove the whole thing over about two inches to be able to get my arm in far enough to pop the new one in . still a lot easier than taking off the whole intake .

The crankshaft sensor is above the starter. Sometimes a bastard to get out of the block. Disconnect battery, take starter bolts out and move it. Old gen3 motors until 2004-5 ish had a black crank sensor, newer gen4 LS has a grey sensor. Gen3 has 24x reluctor on the crank, gen4 has 48x reluctor on the crank.
