    I was in the generation of 50cc bikes.. FSIE, SS50 etc.. I had one at 16 to get to work and college as a Apprentice. Looking back it gave me a new social circle of mates, discovering the world camping etc.. Yes they are slow especially now with emissions controls. Our bikes were mainly 2 strokes and would have been a little more powerful than today..

      I met all my friends I have now because we all had 50cc bikes. That was in 1997 DT50's mt5 TS50 honda vision yamaha B-wizz. And Jog almost everyone got one as soon as they turned 16. Few stayed restricted long. More had a 65 kit than not even if they didn't know it.

      I was the same "50cc" aprilia sx for getting back and forth to work and college when I was a 16 year old apprentice. Mine though had a 70cc big bore kit, polini racing carb and fmf gold series fat pipe. If you tucked down and in the draft of the car infront it would do 65mph

    The suggestion that some sports bike riders might ‘forget’ to pull in the clutch when coming to a halt terrifies me.

  • @Rebel_Canuck
    @Rebel_Canuck 16 днів тому +16

    Great to hear the surgery went well. Wish you a speedy recovery.
    Having owned three different DCT bikes, the e-clutch is something that intrigued me when I first heard about it four years ago. Back then, it was called, clutch-by-wire.
    When does one use the hand lever with the e-clutch? Slow speed, technical manoeuvres.
    Yes, on a DCT we drag the rear brake for slow speed stability. But nothing compares to the control from feathering a hand-levered clutch. Also, in those, hopefully rare, ‘Oh Sh*t’ moments, being able to disengage the transmission from the engine is safer, and for me, much preferred than rolling off the throttle and applying more brake.
    These are the two situations I see the e-clutch being beneficial, and superior, to the DCT. Since I always rode my DCT’s in manual mode, shifting with the e-clutch’s pseudo ‘quickshifter’ is neither a step forward or back. Gaining clutch control when needed is a big win.
    Look forward to your review. Maybe you’ll discover another benefit of the e-clutch system.

      Using the rear brake to control low speed manoeuvring is the recommended solution because there is no risk of stalling. The bike responds immediately. 😀

    I think 50cc is too slow for the UK. Many towns and cities are 30mph with inner rings and arterial routes often being 40 or 50mph. There are some 20mph bits right in some centres but nobody sticks to these. However, in France where it's more of a blanket 30KPH 50cc bikes make perfect sense. See many French cities where people are blitzing around on them and it looks great fun. No doubt many of the young riders would buy a cheap Puegeot or Citoren if riding wasn't fun there and the cities would become clogged with traffic and have ecen less available parking.

      If I knew I could get around and stay within roads that are 20 or 30 I'd be fine with that but I'm not going on a 40 limit if I know I can only go 30 max. Also the road tax is £25 now that's almost as much money as mph it will do

    • @Klooney9mm
      @Klooney9mm 16 днів тому

      To add to this and take a similar topic. Some 50cc bikes have a 50kph limit and barely make the speed limits where I'm at in Australia 60kph. Makes them completely unappealing.
      I'd like them to jump any 50cc type scooter to safer speeds and maybe just allow upto 80cc as they generally cause cars etc to line up and change lanes to get past.

    Great informative thought provoking monthly round up . However what I have noticed is that you are very should I say fortunate to be able to ride and review a lot of very expensive motorcycles from the major manufacturers. How about reviewing more of the less expensive makes and models . Benelli , cfmoto , Voge ,Rieju , As we know that a lot of European and the Japanese manufacturers have a lot of there engines and even complete motorcycles built by the previously mentioned manufacturers . How about doing a mini tour on a machine that is 500 cc or less not all tours have to be done on 750cc + machines . Thanks for a truly great professional programme that I do look forward too every month .

    from what i have seen you can use the E Clutch like a twist and go (almost), so pull away, stop accelerate you just have to shift gears yourself but you don't need to use the clutch when changing gear. bit of a gimmic but if you own 1 bike and commute i can see the appeal, chilled work riding then use the clutch on weekend blasts

    My nearest motorcycle showroom has become a CF Moto dealership. I was initially a bit sceptical, having not been at all impressed by Chinese bikes in the past, but I must say the range I saw was very impressive in terms of value, looks and quality (from what I could see in the showroom). It's also worth noting that CF Moto also effectively own The KTM and Husqvarna brands, which are sold through their showrooms, so we certainly shouldn't ignore them.

    I suspect that eonomics and legislation will eventually take other high end bikes off the roads unless buyers have very deep pockets.
    My dream bike in my youth was the 1000cc Eddie Lawson replica in the iconic Kwaka Green but could never afford to buy one, (Girlfriend and saving for a house) I rode a well loved Meriden TR65 Thunderbird in stead.

    Morning Andy,
    For a lot of people above all a cruiser has to be air cooled, has Harley has found out with the lower sales of its new liquid cooled Sportster range. A lot dealers saying the older air cooled ones are in more demand than the new ones. The continual ever increasing drive for higher BHP and performance by manufacturers will only lead to more restrictions by legislators and governments. It seems manufacturers are incapable of learning this from history. The search in the late 70’s, early 80’s for 100mph 250’s led to learners being restricted to 125’s and a max power and power to weight limit being imposed.
    I agree with you on the Swifty, for less than half the cost you can get a Keeway EZ mini, a small electric moped that you can ride on a car licence without l plates if you have moped entitlement that is faster and has greater range. The Swifty requires a CBT even if you have moped entitlement as you can only get insurance for it via Swifty and it’s one of their stipulations. Also being the only source of insurance, if and when they stop selling it ( and I think they won’t be for long at £3500) once they leave the market you’ll be left with a vehicle you cannot insure and so can’t use.
    The Mash 50 would be good if it could be bought unrestricted with a 40-50 mph top speed. I personally think the 28mph limit on mopeds is dangerous.

Personally I think they should have enough power to manage at least 45mph, which would be much safer for youngsters. Didn’t do us any harm in the 70s my little Honda ss50 would do 50mph.

    The CFMoto clc450 is the reason I haven't bought the eliminator, I'm downsizing my bike, I don't need an 800cc to do 25km a day, and I want something lighter, this clc has USD forks, radial mounted calipers and radial master cilinder, a belt not a chain, digital instrument (which are a little on the dim side if they're anything like my 800NK), Monosgock rear suspension, yes, yes yes. and to be honest it looks miles better the the Kawi, plus it's a 270° cracnk, that doesn't actually matter to me but you get a fuller sound from what I've heard

    50cc 🤔 I remember that was your start to independence to the outside roads at 16 with a engine no cbt required and you couldn’t go to a 125 till you were 17 but 50cc at one time could do 60 mph but the year I started riding new 50cc was restricted to 30mph so if the speed of this 50cc is 50mph the yes especially for cities but not dualcarrageways or motorways. The tiger is got a great bike and I understand your comments about the engine I think they should have left a tiger model with the smooth triple and maybe the T plane for the Rally versions but it’s great to hear they have sorted the stalling at low revs when at slow manoeuvres great content and yes CF Moto are a manufacturer to look out for

      A moped had to have pedals as it needed help to go up hill a 50cc motorcycle could do more than 30mph before they got restricted 🚫 by law I suppose it was like the restriction you get on A2 holder’s and all before the CBT maybe in those days that was why you had more young people on motorcycles plus you could ride a motorcycle up to 250cc on L plates then they changed it so if you own a 250cc you had to sell it or pass you motorcycle test within a year. I know this as I just bought my KL250 Kawasaki so I wasn’t selling it so sat my test and in those days you just went round the block 😂 the old days were fun but rules spoiled it and made it expensive

    I've got to wholeheartedly agree with you Re. the Triumph T-plane crank, I just don't get it.
    I too love a triple, but for a minuscule advantage off rood, they've destroyed the lovely character of their awesome triple engine. It's the same on the Tiger 1200, I took a mate's bike out for an extended spin, and while it's undoubtedly an amazing bike, it hasn't got the 'triple character' I expect in a triple engine. If I wanted a twin - I'd buy a twin. If I buy a triple, I want it to ride like a triple. I've said right fro the introduction of the T-plane crank that I think they've made a mistake with this one.
    Fingers crossed they'll listen to you and maybe even me and go back to the former crank configuration. Viva la Triple!
