As one of the few owners of MW 1 I am proud to see how far this series has gone
I love how the King Crab has sprung forth from it's exceedingly derpy looking roots to a such a badass design that it's MW5's poster mech. PGI may be guilty of a few things, but the redesigns of the mechs are freaking amazing.
And the K.Crab's open claws in MW5 are a muuuuch better version than the "pelican mouth" MWO has.
I'm usually not familiar with the crab, but the instant I saw that I knew it was the crab, and its gorgeous.
Let's not praise the redesigns universally. Some do not look good at all, the Centurion painful to look at

I often hear people complain about the redesigns but I can't think of any that I personally dislike. Some people just hate anything being different.

This has to be the first mod someone's going to make. Additionally I would love to see annoying bleeping for incoming missiles, and much, much more noise and warning for overheating.

@@seankellyfarmer It is not, you're correct. And it will not, if the mission sequence does not change. During your mech startup your X O talks to you... and the hangar noises of the leopard drop ship... and sfx from every angle. I don't think we will hear betty again soon.

@@codysheffield4469 There was an interview with Russ about this and all of my questions about the campaign were answered. It sounds very similar to MW:4 Mercs campaign, except with much less linearity, a lot more randomly generated missions, and a LOT more star systems. You'll start out with the bare minimum, and you'll have to manage your funds, being careful how you take out mechs to maximize your salvage, and you'll have a plethora of systems offering various degrees of pay, difficulty, and biomes to take contracts in. And if there's anything you don't like about the campaign, you'll be able to mod just about any aspect of the game with the Unreal Editor.
Altogether, it sounds exactly how I want it to be.

The demo has been tons of fun for me. Combat feels weighty and satisfying, AI lancemates surprisingly helpful (and occasionally obstruct my line of fire or shoot me in the back, just like human MWO lancemates!) I'm very excited to play this next Tuesday :)

When launch the beta of the game, it launches Steam VR/Oculus. If you've got a VR headset. Doesn't run in VR, and can't play the game without force shutting down VR launchers first. But hints that they've atleast been tinkering with it.

i play it in VR.I uploaded a custom profile for vorpx.Stereoscopic 3D is working with it (G3D and Z-NORMAL < more performance friendly) So the 3D effect is present and works as intended..
Now all we need is that PGI make the game compatible with opentrack or similar head-tracking software, so that we have FREE-LOOK enabled all the time and can move our heads
inside the cockpit while aiming and stomping around.
I am a bit puzzled on this one, because for MWO they had this allready available oO?

Phoenix point for example nearly had a massive fuck up as a result of one patch interfering with Epic's cloud save system.

@@pmarreck The issue isn't just the platform. The real issue is their methodology. The PC scene was never about exclusivity like this (aside from 1st-party titles, but that's ALWAYS been expected). Epic buying timed exclusive to every big name is NOT competition. Competition means you can get it from Target OR Walmart, and they have to compete against each other. If you can ONLY get it from one...it's monopolization. It's strong-arming your consumer base into coming to your store. You're not giving a choice or incentive to use your store over another
And arguing that 'Valve has made enough money over the years' is completely missing the point of commerce in the first place.

Maddog/vulture is in MechWarrior Online. It won't make it into MW5:Merc due to the timeline. How ever mods/future expansion could change that.
No clan Mechs at launch but if the game does well, PGI has all the clan mechs already modelled and a pipeline to get them into MW5 so a clan expansion is a sure thing if the game sells well.

It's not perfect and it looks dated, but I'm having fun. It's essentially a modern remake of the 1989 game which is neat. Repetitive though,
Hell Yeah, still not as Epic as the original MW5 Trailer (of the game that never came to be), but as a long time fan I already pre-ordered and am happy to finally get some new Mechwarrior after two decades.

But there are people who work with motion simulator software in the Unreal community that may make something happen with the modability of the game. Been enjoying the demo tons, both solo and in co-op mode.
I would love if they would release MW1-4 in a Win 10 friendly format. The Win98 games don't work, and WINE doesn't do well with them either.

Those are some nice looking mechs. Since 3015 is before the clan invasion, my beloved Rifleman IIc won't be available. Does anyone know of an inner sphere mech that does the same sort of thing? Big, simple, large laser arms for days.
Nothing with 4 large pulse in this timeframe. You might be able to modify an Awesome. 1 in each arm and 1 in each Side Torso. It would just be waaaaay too hot. IS Tech cannot compete with Clan Tech. Large Pulse Laser for example: Clan = 6 Tons - IS = 7 Tons. And no Double Heatsinks as they are Lostech. So it would totally overheat all the time. Even the Awesome can't handle 3 PPC's which do the same amount of Heat as Large Pulse Lasers.
How long before someone mods in the sound effects from MW2 into this game like they did with MWO?

If you're a Merc, why can't you bring an lrm tank with you? If you're a Mech pilot, does that mean you're no longer capable of driving an ordinary tank, instead of a walking tank that handles the exact same way?
In universe, it's mostly likely because controlling a mech that's linked in to your brain's balance centers while moving on two legs and firing enough artillery to make a battleship jealous requires a different kind of training to operating a tank. Controls are different, engagement strategies are different, your height is different, I can go on.
Reality wise, it's probably because people play for the mechs, and the game IS named Mechwarrior. The tanks are probably paper, so spending money to bring one wouldn't net you much gain, I don't think. If you want combined warfare, though, you can always looking MW: Living Legends. That's a fun combined-arms game, if a little dated graphically.
I would totally love to have that option. Having an AI buddy in a LRM 60 carrier sitting somewhere in the back... Hmm. Nice.

I don't care that I'd lose them in two volleys, I just want something to expand our approach to combat. Having a rear flank covered by arm tanks would give a chance to retreat and snipe. Even if they played it off like an airstrike mechanic, I'd appreciate an explanation as to why pirate mercenaries use tanks and Mecha together, but the player never does... I know there's not a good reason, other than Mecha are cool. I'd just like to bring it into a fuller world of imagination. It's a fun IP. The electronic games are more fun than Warhammer IMO.

China has been on a decades long PR campaign to trick people into thinking their government is ok, that it's mellowed out from turning political prisoners into preserved human displays. Realize that the Chinese government has their fingers in virtually every Chinese presence in any industry or field. You would never just walk into your rival's business and spill all your secrets. China is all about stealing IP and information from everywhere. Stolen research, stolen business secrets, stolen military specs, etc. China doesn't fucking care. They'll print as many lenovo computers as it takes until some schmuck transfers schematics for an F-35, or puts all their research for some CRISPR treatment on it. China's in for the long game. If they get caught, they apologize, and rely on people who think, "surely that won't happen again." If you have anything important business/government/research wise on your personal device, that's a double reason to not touch the Epic launcher with a 30 foot pole. Well this is embarrassing. I read that as raytracing. Just got off a 12 hour shift and got drunk before bed. RT is post release. No news on VR but it should be quickly modded in if PGI doesn't. VR is a priority for me as well but I'm honestly not concerned because it's in high demand and UE supports it easily.

The Overlord Dropship will, at max, be an Enemy. You will only have the Leopard, because you only have a Lance max afaik.

Okay so I have a couple questions, I’ve played Battletech but never heard of this, is this a sequel or was Battletech an off shoot, someone give me the rundown please, cause this looks AWESOME.
The first Mechwarrior game was released 1989 with Mechwarrior 4 released in 2000. 20 years and a whole generation of little to no mainstream attention later, Mechwarrior 5 is a standalone story independent of previous entries in the series. Battletech was a spin off in a sense that it aimed, and greatly succeeded, to recreate the tabletop experience in a video game medium.
The universe as a whole has been explored extensively across multiple novels, tabletop games, video games and even an animated series in the mid-90s. So spin off or not, they all take place in the same universe, though factions, affiliations and their conflicts vary depending on the timeline that spans roughly 3 centuries of space feudalism

Battletech is the original IP that MechWarrior, MechAssault, MechCommander, etc, stem from. It was originally a table-top mini wargame and still exists as one.
Someone in the company read a boatload of Battletech lore and put it in MechWarrior 5: As you play MW5 and the calendar progresses (3015-3050), you can read lore in the news and see the Inner Sphere map change according to canon events.
The catch is that the updates stop time in 3050, with ominous news that hints at the Clan invasion.

I will only buy MW5 when it releases as DVD. I really hope they do because I have been dreaming about an MW5 so badly for more than 5 years.
Well, then you unfortunately may end up burning your own DVD and getting into papercraft to make the box. The likelihood of a boxed copy is extremely low since PGI is both the developer and publisher, and the terms for the Epic exclusivity may not even allow for it.
I prefer to wait for the 24 disc cd Rom box set

@@konekjukel3340 back in the late 90's/early 2k's, before dvd's were commonly used for games, they were still cramming them on cd's. A dvd hold around 8Gb, a cd holds around 700mb. So large games would often come in either huge box sets of 12+ discs or 1 dvd depending on which version you bought.

Man.... Have they made the Timberwolf from MechWarrior 2 an 3 in any other Mech Assault or MechWarrior game since? And if not, I wonder why TF not! Personally I like the "chicken-walkers" better than "man-walker" mechs. And on top of each shoulder were huge rocket pods of LRM's! Best designed and best looking Mech, pretty quick too.
God- I actually grew up on Mechassault on the Xbox. Fell utterly in love with that, and found out there was a whole world to the game. I found a mod that adds the Timberwolf in- now I just want a couger (puma) or maybe a belial (though I know that one is generally hated, haha)
See mechwarrior 4 and online for more clan related mechs, Mechwarrior 5 is set 40 years before the Clans Invade so your not likely to see them outside of mods that port the model from online.
@@amsgamingandmusic first one I ever played was MechWarrior 2 and that was from like 1995 I believe, I played it on PC.
