- Misty Copeland - the American Ballet Theatre’s first African-American principal ballerina in its 75-year history - remembers pushing her body to the edge as she trained for a career-defining performance as principal dancer for American Ballet Theatre. The famed ballerina remembers how her opening night performance at The Met brought in an atypical audience and several ovations, but then reality set in the next morning that the immense training had taken a toll - she later learned the pain she overcame was from six fractures in her tibia.
Plus, we switch gears slightly as Misty shares that she leans into Drake’s music to get hyped up before stepping on stage for a classical performance like Swan Lake.

She has a new mole. I absolutely love and respect this young woman.♥️
THANK YOU
So awful Firebird injured her. I'm glad the ballet meant alot to blacks but the costume is very, very awful and ridiculous and I can just tell that the choreography was jarring and not good for the body at all. That makes me feel badly. I wish she had gotten a better version or a true version of Firebird or a better ballet and I wish not so much was at stake or that Misty felt that way so that she couldn't properly take care of her body. It's very hard to hear. It's so so wrong. Something needs to be done about that. Someone in authority should have come to her and said, "Misty, get physically well. You can perform the ballet as many times as you want, once you heal your body." But nonetheless, Misty made a big impact in this world as a classical ballet dancer and she is a wonderful person, and universally admired and one million percent likeable and worthy of all the admiration. She is a good, humble person who takes action to help others.
🙏🙏🙏❤❤
My name is Freda Shadlow the oldest daughter of Ressie Copeland Gunther. I am now 85 years old.😂
She wouldn't have had six bone fractures if she had proper technique. She is poorly trained and just now in her later years she is trying to be what others were decades ago and got passed over for HER.
Well I'm so glad we've heard from Dr. Google here with their expertise. BTW, no I don't give a shit if you danced or taught dance or know about dance. You don't know as much as the people working with Misty. She'd dance you right off the stage. Sit down.
She is amazing and you know she was trained well… be nice
