JOHANNESBURG (AP) -- Clint Dempsey sobbed as the Americans walked up to get their second-place medals, unable to hide the pain and the disappointment any longer.
The euphoria of knocking off Spain last week dissolved Sunday in the Confederations Cup final when Brazil unleashed its "Beautiful Game."
After dominating the five-time World Cup champions in the first half, the Americans were powerless as Brazil scored three goals in the final 45 minutes to rally for a 3-2 win. - Спорт

Don't think it would. I dig the FIFA Confederations Cup but most people didn't even know it existed; Mexico won it in 1999 and they're still a second-tier team with all due respect.

I remember the every exact moment, location, and emotion watching this game live. Even though we loss I am proud and have nothing but respect for our national team. Was worth every year that streamed down my face that day.

the first 2-0 lead against Brazil... was a nice game, but when I saw it, I said to everybody: Brazil gonna win this... And won.
Damn watching this for the first time years later. Referenced on the Landon Donovan interview with CBS. I can't believe we actually led Brazil 2-0 going into half. Kaka goal should have been given but the game definitely took a turn for the worse after that. The outcome was unjust for how much heart the boys put into this match. I just hope the USA team of 2023 can have this much heart and have pride for the stars and stripes like this side had. We WILL get a world cup in our life time 💯

The sub-20 US team is good, I think it's just a matter of time to US team have the same level of maturity as the others teams, though I rate Donovan in my top 20 best players of this decade. I'm brazilian and I felt very sorry about US team in this match, they didn't deserved it. Brazil just won too many cups, sharing is caring... :)

@Buccriiggg I agree....the ref's calls are what keeps the game moving along at a good pace. You've got to accept collateral damage at times. Kind of like prison/laws....sometimes an innocent man is wronged. BUT most of the time....the system works:) Besides...what I like about world football is...that if a ref realizes that he made a mistake...he usually is lenient on the next call. Helps balance things...or at least makes an attempt.

They completely lost all adrenaline in the second half, I got worried because at halftime everyone was hugging each other like they were guaranteed to win, here in Latino America we call Brazil the team of surprises. USA went into a defensive shell the entire second half, the last thing you do against Brazil. They should've kept the pressure

I agree, US needs to improve in controling the match when they have a leading score, the problem is that US tried to attack and giving the ball away too much on the second half, they need to learn like the European and South American team how to stop the momentum of the other team like making silly fouls in the middle of the field to neutralize them..that is what others do when they are winning and we didn't we let Brazil play their game and we know what happen when they play their game.
I remember this great game, this was the last good Brazilian team. The United States choke, I honestly thought they were going to win

@cap81slk as a bayern avid fan and real bundesliga-freak i know that donovan is good only for MLS! he was transfered to leverkusen back in (if Im not mistaken) 2004 and in FCB in 2009.. he did absolutely nothing..cause he simply couldnt fit in the european level..and as an avid brazil fan i do agree that USA are a good team and they really were almost as good as selecao in that match..
