I pray that they release all of Pat Metheny's early ECM titles!
That would be awesome!
Very exciting news!! Thanks Michael 🤩
I hope that they will chose Pallas as their pressing plant for these series. Speakers Corner is using Pallas with great success and fantastic sounding records
Early ECM jazz albums were among of my favorite records
So true Nicole!
There is definitely a lot of potential here for great reissues. I hope they stick to the harder to find, rarer (and weirder) stuff. thanks Michael!
Keith Jarrett all analog a dream comes true 😊
The new LP from Angelo arrived yesterday, sounds really great, totally silent, no bad noise and that without even cleaning it. Very Well done from start to finish
I NEED A MASSIVE EBERHERD WEBER BOX SET
ECM recordings were done very well and the music was all over the place which is always welcomed. Continuing the jazz journey in style! Bravo
ECM has been putting out reference demo quality vinyl lps of stunning artists in the last 10 years.
They had some very contemporary artists that are pushing the envelope. Their cds sound wonderful as well.
You can find original ECM analog lps from the 70s and 80s easily in records stores (at least in my area - even easier in Europe).
I have many of the early titles from ECM, and they are beautifully recorded and all analog! Beautiful jacket and poly line sleeves! My favorite, of course is Bright Size Life Pat Methenys freshman effort! Jaco Pastorius was his bass player and the album is a testament to how amazing they were going to be!❤
Fantastic news! any ECM albums before 1250 were all AAA! Really looking forward for these reissues!
Great! Thanks for the heads up, Michael.
Thank you for keeping us informed.
I'll have to check these out. The catalog sounds intriguing. Michael, thanks for always, always, always being about the music.
this is great news! will be so curious to hear these. thanks for sharing, sir.
Love the ECM sound. This is great news! Thanks for sharing this with us! Have a great day sir!
Amazing news, Michael. I was soooo sure they will start with Kenny Wheeler’s Gnu High. What an album! Thx for keeping us updated.
I was waiting for this moment many years 😍
I’ve always loved the ECM label! Happy to see them digging into the gems that have gone unrecognized! Great of you to share this information! Thanks Michael!
Kenny Wheeler’s Gnu High is great. People should also look out for “Old and New Dreams” - that’s the Ornette Coleman quartet with Dewey Redman place of Ornette.
I have forgotten about this label...I bought some John Adams & Steve Reich (Classical Minimalists) ECM vinyl Recordings back in the mid-late 1980s. I remember that the quality of these recordings were excellent
Vanessa - Michael Naura
Conference of the Birds - Dave Holland
Extensions - Dave Holland
Jack DeJohnette’s Special Edition
And everything Keith Jarrett
We also need someone to do the same with the Blacksaint/Soul Note catalogue🙏
ECM is one of my fav labels, because I know their engineering, sound quality, recording quality is top tier. Their musician artists are exemplary, some also avant-garde, developed, unique and experimental, and fearless: they aren't just 'straight ahead'. Though I dearly love mainstream, I love taking dedicated time to listen to ECM, because I learn things and I grow. I deeply appreciate that you acknowledge their artistic aesthetic from cover art to typography-those are also SO distinctive and unique in the music industry. It's all for a purpose, and that purpose is NOT to tweak a format and look and style that everyone does. I am excited!!
Great news with ECM reissues in AAA! Always been a fan of ECM..
I'm with you on this - I'd love to get all of these, doing so at the moment for the other series you mentioned, but I don't have unlimited funds. ECM and OJC following the all-analogue path... great news!
Sounds interesting I will definitely check them out !
Evgueni Galperine was a great recommendation, Michael. Optimal in Munich still have new-old-stock cassette tapes of ECM.
Amazing news. Been a fan of ECM for many years. I hope they manage to give more warmth to their recordings which on CD usually sounded to me very crisp but lacking warmth. And finally crossing my fingers that their prices will be accessible. Waiting for genius artists like Ketil Bjornstad and Keith Jarrett.
Yes, this is fantastic, I love ECM 🙂
Hi Michael - I have been anxiously waiting for your review of ERC's pressing of Workin'. Did you purchase this one? Thanks
We will see the sleeves' quality. They should choose a better-quality pressing plant. Optimal will not guarantee audiophile quality of pressing. I will only buy these records if the quality is good enough. In my opinion, in Europe, only Pallas can meet similar quality as RTI or QRP.
"Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert" please!
As an owner of almost the entire original vinyl titles from the ‘70s onwards,I wonder if you will be doing any ECM comparison videos?!
Fantastic and informative work Michael. I am very appreciative of the work you do for us.
This is a great news Michael. I hope they would do Steve Tibbetts - A Man About A Horse, one of the greatest sounding albums that hasn’t been available on vinyl. It would be great to hear good mastering of Anouar Brahem’s oud, since not that many audiophile labels pay enough attention to such instrument and music. Thanks for the video Michael!
Steve Tibbetts all the way! I’ve been continuously banging on ECM’s door to release his digital only output on vinyl particularly the one you mentioned and The Fall of Us All preferably on luxurious double vinyl sets. Please let God’s light shine on Manfred’s grizzly mutt 🐶
great!!!
All record labels should only produce AAA records.
At first reading this I thought, "Don't be ridiculous."
For older records that were recorded in analog I'm with you; reissue it from the original analog masters or don't reissue it at all. And then I realised I hate the fact that modern records are being pressed on vinyl (which is just taking a digital master and throwing away information) as a cash grab and that's stupid too. So... Yes I guess you're right. And stopping releases of new shit on vinyl would go some way towards taming the craze and bringing prices back down to reasonable levels.
This is something I honestly never expected.
but still something you love i guess :-)
@@Michael45RPM Sure enough.
Yeah, this is great news. I've been sourcing a lot of ECM 2nd hand locally and they're typically VG+ or NM aside from the occasional '70s release on Polydor (often those have been well played.) Week before last I scored Gary Peacock 'Tales of Another' NM and last week the recent release from Avishai Cohen 'Naked Truth'. I'd very much like to see the Jan Garabek re-issues - those are a little difficult to source.
Haha that is what I said as a reaction to your last ecm video.
ECM jewels.
Greedily dominated by instinkt.
That throws covetous glances at it.
♥️Heike
WOW!
Michael,
My retired wife is going to have to back to work so I can afford all of these!!

Great news, but you can find OG issues of so many titles for far less than a modern AAA pressing. Sounds like they are releasing less obvious/less found-in-the-wild LPs which is awesome.
It would be interesting to compare with some reissue titles from 2019 which were cut from high res, such as the Mal Waldron trio record that I showcased on my lastest gear review, this one was the very first ECM release
A welcome addition would also be the "JAPO label" to be reissued, fingers crossed!😄
Saudades is special
Hopefully ECM will re-release some of the more rare items from their back catalog - e.g. Kenny Wheeler 'The Widow at The Window'; Jack DeJohnette 'Pictures'; Mick Goodrick: 'In Pas(s)ing'; Double Image 'Dawn'; Barre Phillips 'Three Day Moon'; Michael Naura 'Vanessa'; Steve Eliovson 'Dawn Dance'; Dave Holland 'Emerald Tears'; Charles Lloyd 'Fish Out of Water'; Bennie Maupin 'The Jewel in The Lotus'; John Clarke 'Faces'... and better known titles like: Codona 'Codona'; Azimuth (any 70s title); Eberhard Weber (any title, but especially 'Fluid Rustle' and 'The Colours of Chloe'); Pat Metheny 'Bright Size Life' and 'Watercolours'; Terje Rypdal (any title, but my personal favorite is 'Descendre'); Ralph Towner (any 70s title, especially 'Solstice: Sound and Shadows' and 'Batik'); Egberto Gismonti (any 70s title); John Abercrombie 'Timeless', 'Characters'... Too many to mention. It should be noted that ECM titles on CD sound fantastic as well, and did from the start when first released in the format in the mid-'80s. In addition to well over 100 titles on OG vinyl (the best were pressed in Germany and by Warners in the US after '78 or so) I have several hundred on CD. No complaints...
I second `Timeless` but also the 'The Jewel in The Lotus'
yes, that will be cool to check on the ECM LP´s coming out ..... also i would be SO SO SO interested about the PRESSING, the vinyl quality ...... cause from some of my first press german 70´s ECM i have strange not too good sounding things. specially i hear it, if piano is out front. i always thought it is the pressing and vinyl quality. it can not be the mix. as that is top. it can not be the mastering i guess. so please compare some records with first press german ECM. ...... hi sends andreas, jazz pianist from berlin
I love it! ♥️
I will buy it if they improve vinyl quality I purchased few records from them and they were defective with small bumps all over
Pressing by Optimal? Well, I remain unconvinced, but I'm hoping to read positive feedback from members of the vinyl community when these start rolling out.
Gary Burton's New Quartet is such an amazing release actually. (I mean , it has Gary in it so.. )
I have it on CD and to be honest it does also sound pretty bad & dead. I can only listen to it on my "mobile headphones" (some lower end Campfires) where for some reason it really shines. My ~6k EUR digital equipment, tube amp and higher end Triangle tower speakers can't seem to manage to do it justice
So there's a genuine hope with this new series that a better master and pressing will revive this nice gem of an album
Will ECM actually be able to outperform the previous pressing with this AAA series ? I hope so
Still waiting for the Benny Maupin!
anouar brahem and jan garbarek 90's albuns ?if so count me in
i guess so Filipe
This is fantastic! But, What was only recorded digital, no way make it full analogue.
Do you like soundtracks/scores?
€ 100,00 + ?
i dont think so Peter
€39.99 for Gnu High on their website
BLUE NOTE, PRESTIGE, CONTEMPORARY RECORDS (Concorde), VERVE, ECM, DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON, es tut sich was... aber was ist mit "SONY - COLUMBIA - RCA VICTOR" Jazz, da kommt nichts ins rollen? traurig! Warum traut sich SONY nicht? Schade!!!
Analogue is overrated
