- In this video, I explain your options for getting around Boston, starting with your arrival at Logan airport. I explain what Charlie cards are and how to use them. I also share my recommendations for purchasing passes for public transportation when visiting a large city.
Great video, but the Silver line explanation is incorrect. The bus you took were the shuttle buses operated by MassPort that loops around the different terminals, rental cars and the MBTA blue line Airport station.
The silver line is a bus operated by the MBTA and it is also free to ride at the airport. While the bus also does loop around the terminals, if you take it terminal E, it will start heading back into Boston. Its final terminus is South station which is a red line station.
If anyone accidentally takes the silver line, just note that all tranfers between lines are free as long as you don't leave the station.

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) operates the Port of Boston, which includes a container shipping facility in South Boston, and Logan International Airport, in East Boston.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) operates bus, subway, short-distance rail, and water ferry passenger services throughout the city and region.
Amtrak operates passenger rail service to and from major Northeastern cities, and a major bus terminal at South Station is served by varied intercity bus companies.
The city is bisected by major highways I-90 and I-93, the intersection of which has undergone a major renovation, nicknamed the Big Dig.

Take the silver bus at the airport to get to the blue line on the T. Then take the blue line to the hotel maybe it also goes to government station and then get on the green line which is a trolley. You can buy tickets at the station with cash the employees wear red. Everyone needs a ticket or Charlie card rfid reader may need card or ticket to get out thay have there or seven day passes 7 day passes 23.00 dollar gives unlimited rides

Yes, much of Boston is very walkable! Yes, we took the T to Cambridge and visited Harvard just a month ago. The red line takes you there. I've never been to Salem, so I'm afraid I can't help with that. Thanks for watching!
This answer is late but yes you can get to Salem by the Commuter rail... not the bus-train ticket but I think you can get a ticket with the Commuter rail added

It would depend on your situation, but an unlimited pass is usually going to be the best value.
If you want to take the commuter rail as well, you'll want it on a ticket. Basically the commuter rail 1A 7 day pass is on a ticket and lets you travel in zone 1A
And if it was somewhere nice, you could probably have a great view of the stars.
Are the stops on MBTA buses automatic?
I actually don't know. Some may be, but I think others you need to pull the thing to indicate to the driver that you want to stop. The subways and trolleys do stop at all stops.
hope i'm not too late, but for most stops you need to let the driver know that you're getting off by pressing one of the stop buttons or any of the yellow strips on the walls of the bus. an automated voice will announce each upcoming stop, so you can press the button then. the only time that you don't need to signal your stop that i can think of is if you're getting off at the bus's last stop
