Was on a 5 day section hike on the ECT with my 1P when this went up for sale, luckily I had good cell service and was able to order it! Can't wait to try it, thanks Dan!
@@durstongear Will that be the original 2P or only the pro, which is way out of my price range.LOL The scalpers are still charging ridiculous prices for it on Amazon.
@@rumblechick73 We have more of the 1P and 2P coming this fall at regular prices. Then the Pro is more expensive and will be on pre-sale this fall for spring delivery.
@@durstongear I just signed up on your site to be notified! Financial timing was just wrong when you first released the 2P on Drop and I was stuck standing out in the rainy left field. LOL

Has anyone heard of mini bears eating the salt flavored trekking pole cork grips? I don't know how common this issue is. I plan to pitch my new X-mid with the handles up off the ground unless I know that it is safe to have the grips at ground level. I'm planning to do sections of the PTC.
That happens but it's pretty rare. Quite a few tent companies make tents that pitch handles down (e.g. TarpTent). In regular mode, you can pitch handles up, although it's ideal to secure them to the peak with Tarptent's adapter kit if it's stormy.
Like seeing a new set of rims released for a Ferrari...looks great and maybe one day I will be able to get one, lol. ;-) Looking forward to the X-Mid Pro 2P as my Duplex gets tired, any updates when it will be released? Hoping for a price around $450, one can dream.
We're planning a Sept pre-sale for the X-Mid Pro and spring delivery. We're trying to have a good price but the price of DCF recently went up a lot, which has a big effect. Zpacks has announced they are going to raise the Duplex price (from $649 to ???). We'll see them announced the new price soon once they run out of the current DCF supply. I think we will have a smaller markup than them and be priced lower, but we can't do $450 as that is likely lower than our cost. @@durstongear Dang, I had no idea. Should have bought some DCF instead of BTC. ;-) DCF has been available for quite a while now and I wonder why the price hasn't dropped due to scale of production....The current increase is probably linked to logistics and trade hickups and temorary - I hope. Thanks for your reply. I am on the list already, thanks!
@@wio2189 Yeah quite a few companies posted about the increase (Zpacks, Adotec, RSBTR etc). It's surprising becuase it's been on sale for a long time at about the same price. The makers of DCF said it was due to rising costs during covid, although I wonder if they simply have more demand than they can supply so they decided to raise it.
@@durstongear Wouldn't be surprised if Covid was a convenient excuse. However I feel like we are reaching a price level where most thru hikers will decide to be better off carrying a little more weight and staying in a hostel for an additional 8 nights. Or eating a MH lasagna each night for half the trail. CV hasn't improved the thru hiking budgets. Once thru hikers as trend setters (in a way) start moving away from DCF it will probably become less hip and desirable. Good times ahead for BA (who made a DCF tent to 'prove' their other tents are strong), MLD, Borah and you. But also 3F and Aricxi. My guess at least.
Supply and demand are jacking DCF prices. There is also an exclusive patent on DCF and until that patent expires the manufacturer is going to charge as much as they can per square yard. They need to keep that money train rolling in as long as they can. DCF is currently like $25 per square yard in .51oz variety at Ripstopbytheroll.com. The Xmid 2 Pro manufacturing cost being over $400 is definately believable with those kind of material costs.
@@durstongear Oh wow! That's awesome - I wasn't expecting you to say there were going to be many changes at all. Are you able to tell us what any of those changes are? Will any of them effect the space inside the inner tent? (Mainly talking about the width). Thanks again!
@@JohnnieDoe183 We're not going to be releasing details on it until closer to when it's ready, but yes it is wider inside (same fly size but wider inner).
It works for that tent. Whether it is needed is debateable. It is nice to have if you use this mode often, but you can rig up something similar with a few knots.
It can be done but isn't super easy. If you might have rain I would do the "further variation" mode shown in our pitch video instead. That rolls back the fly instead of omitting it.
Did it go to your spam or promotions folder? That does happen. We'll have a few more Stargazers in late July once we get the backorders shipped, and we're trying to get a batch of groundsheets this fall.
I am working on it. We are focusing on production of complete tents right now, but it is the plan to offer the different pieces. Around late '23 we should have the inners available separately.
Hi Dan! With this, should rain come up unexpectedly (often, in Colorado hehe), could you drape the fly over this as setup here and just stake out ? Or would it really need a re-pitch? Probably obvious but I'm not visualizing it well.
It's a bit tricky but doable. You would toss the fly over top, stake out the 4 corners of the fly, and then detach the poles from the inner peaks, let them drop, and put them into the fly peaks. Then clip the inner to the fly.
Ha....we were laughing about that sentence. I wanted to take it out, but I slurred the end of the previous sentence into that one so it was both or nothing.
