    Nice Justin! I love that this is your tent of choice while backpacking with your girlfriend. Dan is 6'0", and he actually sleeps on the less optimal side (with more mesh in his face), but down as far as he can, while still having room at his head for gear. At 5'7", I sleep on the nicer mesh side most of the way to the top, with a bit of gear at my head, and a 20lbs dog at my feet.
    Great review! I laughed at all the Dan appearances. :)

    I love my Xmid 2P. Perfect amount of room for me, my dog, and all our gear. I sort of agree with one of your negative points, I do wish the corner guy lines were a little longer. It's never been an issue for me, but I can see where it could be in certain situations. If you're after one, there's a new batch coming Jan 10th!!

    3:40 Thank you for this comment on double wall tents. I've seen so many "experienced" hikers claiming that condensation reduction is a benefit of double wall tents. It isn't! The same amount of condensation will occur, but the mesh will catch some of the water droplets during heavy rain. Love my x-mid and camping season is upon us!

    Love your videos Justin. Really appreciate how much in depth detailed info you offer. Luckily I was able to secure one yesterday. It was pretty crazy, I thought the website was going to crash. I'm not sure how many were available, but I do know they sold out in less than 5 minutes. Definitely worth the hype, Dan put a lot of thought into this tent. In one video I watched someone staked out the large door into "porch mode" using a medium sized stick. Wondering if you have done that yet? I like what you mentioned about the mesh door, not hanging in the mud, that is a good observation. That combined with all the other amazing features included like the elevated mesh pockets and quick pitch, give this tent amazing value. Now the wait for my xmid 2p begins. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

    I LOVE this tent... we weekend-warriored about 120 miles last year in that puppy. The only thing I don't like is we can't move it once it's pitched (like a freestanding tent that you can just remove stakes and move it as one piece)... otherwise this tent is well worth the money!!

    I have am X-Mid 1p and I'm hoping to get a 2p when the new stock is released. I just adopted a dog and she's rather leggy, I don't think we'll both fit in the 1p comfortably!
    I've had my issues with pitching the 1p, ( I didn't have issues with the stakes tho that you mentioned) even after a 2 week trip I still haven't mastered it, but it's a brilliant tent and I'm stickin with it! I will also need to get a new outer stuff sack, mine has a few abrasions from grabby trees and ragged rocks on that trip, but a dyneema from NUL should do the trick nicely 😊

    Today’s release was sold out in less than 5 minutes. I couldn’t get trough the purchase process fast enough even if I was on the start line at 10am. This been said, at almost $500 CAD for the 1P with all fees included, it cannot be considered as a cheap option anymore.

    • @GearPriority
      @GearPriority  2 роки тому

      Hopefully that comes down after distribution comes from Canada.

    • @tarafrey-durston2606
      @tarafrey-durston2606 2 роки тому +1

      The 1P is $240 USD ($300 CAD) and then shipping to Canada is about $25. Canada does have sales tax (5-13%) and Canada has a sporadically enforced tariff on tents of 18%, so you can get to a little over $400 CAD if you're hit with all of that. We think fewer people will be hit the 18% tariff this time because they shipped via another method that Canada Post seems to both with less. So the total cost should be about $350 - $420 CAD.
      It's not 'cheap' but it still is a really good value for what is a high end tent. For comparison, the MSR Hubba 1 comes from the same factory and arguably lower quality (e.g. no waterproof zippers) and yet it's $480 at MEC which is about $550 after sales tax.

      We will have sold inner versions of the 1P and 2P. I think we can have the first run around July, but it is just a smaller batch so it'll be fall before we have a lot of the solid inners.

    This looks identical to the Sierra Designs High Route.

      Some similar concepts, but they are quite different tents side by side.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear 2 роки тому +3

      There are visual simularities but the X-Mid has several key differences in the geometry. Specifically, it uses a wider fly so the inner can be rotated onto a diagonal. Importantly, that creates vestibules inside the rectangle base, whereas the High Route hardly has vestibules. That also allows the poles to be moved inward from the edges, so you get a simpler pitch (no mandatory guylines) and the side walls have better slope for improved wind performance. So it solves the 3 main downsides of the High Route (lack of vestibules, mandatory guylines, vulnerability to wind gusts on the sides).

      6'1" but my 76" pad fits inside with room to spare. I would check out the dan durston website and look at the dimensions. there are also blog posts that can answer your question. you can 100% get into the 2p if you lay diagonally.

    I really don’t understand why you would get this over a lanshan 2p pro for half the price…

    • @mrcheevus
      @mrcheevus 2 роки тому +1

      The answer is nylon. For an entry level tent or in dry conditions the lanshan might get by, but seriously, this thing sheds water, doesn't stretch when wet, and when I get up in the morning I just shake it off and go! No water weight to carry.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear 2 роки тому +2

      The Lanshan 2P Pro is a singlewall tent, so it's quite different. Some of the main advantages to the X-Mid are much higher build quality, lighter (when comparing to the doublewall), no-sag polyester fly fabric, much simpler pitch, quite a bit more spacious.

    $300 us for a tent with no poles is kinda a lot. That’s like $400 Canadian for some sewn fabric, but if the material is really that long lasting and durable, I guess.
