Camped on her as a boyscout many times as a kid and recently was back to help chip paint and paint the ship. Love this ship and proud to have her in my state. I cant wait until we get a version of the Alabama skinned like the Massachusetts to use in game.
Glad to hear that she got a new coat of paint. when i visited in 2017 i was appalled at the appearance of the ship. The teak was rotting, the paint was peeling and it needed a complete refurb. It saddened me greatly to see the old girl in such a state. Glad she got a good sprucing up.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time on this ship. My dad was the photographer that did the postcards and advertising for Battleship Cove, so I got to go all sorts of off-limits places with him to get photos. An awesome ship.
When she came to Fall River, "I" was there, with my Dad, a boy of 11 in 1965 . . . when she arrived, she COULDN'T fit "Under" the bridge, so they waited for the tide to go "Out", but she STILL wouldn't fit . . . so they ended up cutting one of her radar masts off, an reattached it later . . . through the years I visited her "Countless" times, due to having many friends who actually WORKED on her. I "Know" the ship, VERY WELL !. . . been in a "Lot" of her unopened spaces.
I slept on the ship many times when I was a kid. I remember being in one of the turrets. All the wires were cut. We were pressing buttons and flipping switches. For a second all the panels lit up. Some capacitor or something that had been keeping electricity for 50 years finally released it. I was there last weekend and couldn't find it. They had opened a bunch of spaces since the 90s but closed others. The engine room looked different as well. I remembered being on a catwalk. But the room they have open now puts you right next to the engine.

One of my favorite memories is camping there as a young scout with my father and grandfather, a WW2 and Korean War navy vet that served on the USS Iowa. He told stories that had everyone captivated. Long live big mamie!
Growing up in Boston, I had the pleasure of touring her before. Carriers may be the kings of the sea now, but when I stood in the shadow of 'Big Mamie' and her nine 16-inch rifles, it was a visceral feeling of power and intimidation that only the old battlewagons could give off. Really hope she is put into the game as a premium at some point, maybe alongside the Jean Bart.
Watching videos of modern battleships everything is computerized. These are much more interesting. Crawling up into the guns nothing is made for comfort. It's like being inside your cars engine.
@@kyleagronick9627 modern battleships?, last battleship launched was in 44, last in service was the Iowa's in the 90's and they're very analog, the most modern among them is likely the New Jersey, which is a museum ship and has a very active youtube channel. The analog mechanical firing computers on them was so good, they never upgraded them to anything digital, last refit was in the 80's I think and at that point it would have been a downgrade to go to a digital computer, there was likely more computerized equipment with the CWIS and the Missile launch tubes and other modern equipment that were installed, but they kept it surprisingly analog, there's video of either the Missouri or the Wisconsin I don't recall which firing it's 16" shells in Iraq during desert storm, and its done the same as it was back in ww2.
It is my first time to play this game, and I didn’t realize they have these videos. I’ve learnt so much more about warships by watching these videos than taking history classes.
One thing not mentioned in this documentary is the fact that not a single sailor who served aboard her was killed in combat. I learned this from a docent during a guided tour. Battleship Cove is a great place to visit. There is not only the battleship but also a destroyer, a submarine and a PT boat.
I have been lucky enough to actually be on the uss Massachusetts, I have even slept on it thanks to a trip from my Boy Scout troop, it was quite amazing to see such a grand ship, filled with history, right below my feet and to be standing on the ship named for my state was quite patriotic, love you big mamey, I hope to visit again soon
NRH111 that is actually a room dedicated to all us servicemen from the state of Massachusetts who gave their lives during the Second World War. I’ve been on that ship before, and found the name of one of my ancestors.
So enjoyed the documentary on the USS Massachusetts. My dad was on the ship during WWII and growing up we heard many stories of its activities during the war. So inspiring to see exactly what happened and what he went through. Before his death , my brother along with his little son, took my father back to visit the ship. Three generations visiting history. Thank you for this look back in history. Well done.
i visited the Massachussets when i was 8 years old in 1973. family vacation from michigan to maine and i remember how wonderful it was. my dad was on a destroyer escort during korea and he explained a lot of things to me. i love remember that day. i want to go back...
I’ve had the privilege of knowing this ship since I was a little kid. My grandfather brought my dad here when he was a child. I just visited her today and it was absolutely wonderful to see that the boy scouts were having an overnight visit on her. It was true magic to see hear the scouts say “WOW” in response to witnessing this beast in the flesh. This beauty kicked some serious ass and will continue to. What a exquisite Battleship. Please Wargaming, for us console players, here’s a tier 7 everyone would buy. After all, hasn’t anyone been curious why the Jean Bart wasn’t so successful?
I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Mass back in 2010 when I was still in high school with my parents! Great experience at Battleship Cove. I'd highly recommend it!
Man do i love Big Mamie i had the pleasure of running about her docks as a child and using the coin rollers to flatten pennies with her likeness blissfully unaware of her storied past i always wondered why my dad smiled at her so, he served solid 10 years in the navy in the sixties aboard various submarines as a sonar man so i could only imagine he could hear her props in his earmuffs again. He always showed me about her gun deck no matter how much he protested that i see the USS Nautilus (i believe) i always was far more enamored with the colossal 15in guns of which looked like they could shatter the earth to my child like mind. when i was there the few times he took me i saw a few men whom would show up and look extremely somber and withdrawn walking her decks, i always asked my dad why they were so sad and he replied only with "if they talk to you boy I want you to thank him for his service and nothing else" looking back i see the bb-59 on their hats and know they must have lost many a friend aboard. Its crazy looking back at her all these years later learning more about her thank you guys very much.
People from the state of Massachusetts are very prideful...and sincere. I should know, being a Massachusetts Man myself :D Warmest greetings from Boston!
Aww hell yeah! My girl! I've been playing on the Massachusetts since I could walk. But I hadn't gone in many years, then I moved to GA, and the resulting stress and loneliness stripped away a large part of my me-ness. I forgot that that was something I did, and thought my passion for warships started because I started playing Kantai Collection. It got me back out there seeking them out again, but I'm much happier to report that my interest was never that shallow. When I came home after 2 years I found a ship encyclopedia from my first visit to BB-59, and realized that I hadn't been there in 8 years. I've always found WWII ships really pretty from an artistic perspective. That ship gave me so many summer memories, but I never paid her much attention. She was always just there. So the last time I visited, I had to give her my thanks for being such an influence in my life. For you she's a ship, for me she's more like an old friend that I missed. Sorry, this one and North Carolina are really special to me. So I tend to get gushy and sentimental about them.
Hoshimaru57 No need to apologize. Those battle wagons really touch the soul. Two shipmates from my A-School got orders to the Mighty Mo. in 1990. Lucky bastards.
The grand old girl is the perfect combination of beauty and power. I’ve been to Battleship Cove many times. Big Mamie is always an impressive sight to behold.
Great documentary, especially with the CGI battle scene was top notch as well! It’s great that her and her sister Alabama were made into museum ships that still exist today!
Went there when I was 16 years old and loved exploring the Massachusetts in Fall River. Also really loved the American and East German destroyers that are docked next to it.
I remember touring the Massachusetts when I was a teenager a couple of decades ago. One of the most memorable experiences in my life. I think she'll be a premium ship soon.
I've stood on the deck of the USS Massachesetts (BB59) along with the other two ships in Fall River, the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, JR. (DD850) & the USS Lionfish (SS298) when I was on vacation with my parents during the late '70's... this visit is part of what convinced me to join the USN out of High School a few years later. It's great to see this fine lady warrior get some love.
I've been there, it's a very well preserved ship, plus there are several other naval vessels. If you plan to visit the ship, don't forget to visit the Lizzy Borden house too. It's really cool.
This is probably my favorite naval legends so far! Love those battle animations! I was blown away by them in the Yamato video, but these new ones are even better!
If you get lucky you can also catch some of the local staff who enjoy talking up their charges ... I had one really interesting afternoon after we completed a ceremony on the Mass running around with one of the guys working the ship as he enjoyed talking shop with active duty guys who came aboard and did a more interesting tour and tales than the public usually gets.
I've been there several times as a kid and that ship is HUGE! We would be on that one ship alone for around 3 hours, and there's so much other cool stuff there; too much to even start! Also right up the street is the maritime museum with the 28 foot titanic used in the 1953 20th century fox film. Oh and FYI when I went there the bridge was painted light green and rusted all over.
BTW, 7DEC41 my father was an outside machinist at Fore River Ship Yard. An outside machinist works on the ship itself. My father was building components in the engine rooms. He was especially involved with the distillation units. These produced all the fresh water on board. After the commissioning he later enlisted in the Navy and go a direct enlistment with no boot camp because the Navy needed his knowledge of the distillation unit. So he went straight onboard a raw inexperienced recruit and into battle. Many thanks to the "greatest generation".
I live in Connecticut but passed over the bridge behind the ship on several occasions on my way to the cape, I'll have to actually stop at some point and get a better look.
Great video. I live an hour or so from the ship, been on her couple times and I think they would love to have this video to show as part of the exhibit.
Thank you WG for such outstanding historical videos! You guys MUST do more of these to help preserve history of these great ships. My father was also in the battle of Leyte Gulf on board the USS Hornet CV-12 with VF-11 Sundowners as a fighter pilot (Commander John W Ramsey Us Navy 1941 thru 1963). Its great to know these crews of these ships worked together to achieve victory.
Should do a video on the USS California, WWI dreadnought type Battleship that saw extensive combat in WWII after being simi-sunk during the attack on Pearl harbor. Dispite having always been always use as a flagship and arguably being the most powerful US battleship (after the refit) it is one naval legend that never gets the credit it deserves.
My grandpa (Carl Edwin France) served on this ship from mid 1942 to 1945. He was a machinist's mate first class. I got to go see her summer 2021 and I just cried when I saw her, partly because he died in 1994 and just the sheer size of her. While I was there I got to spend a night on her, and it was the best night of my life. There were 5 accidents aboard during her service: 1 During a hot day a sailor passed out below deck due to lack of oxygen and ended up dying. 2 Another guy came to help but he also passed out and then died. 3-4 two sailors were thrown overboard and weren't recovered. 5 My grandpa's friend was decapitated from a wire that snapped. His brains were on the deck in front of him. I just couldn't imagine that. But to all of those who have served and/or are serving: Thank you for your service, And God Bless America.

Thinking about the French side, what a confusing and demoralizing time they had to live through. Vichy France allied with their conquerors and fought against their natural allies. I doubt those guys wanted to shoot at American ships but they had orders. And I hate to say it but a gunnery duel between a maneuverable ship and one unable to move and with only one functioning battery isn't what I'd call a fair fight.
true must have been a weird feeling - but as mentioned in the video the french didnt really have that much respect for the british anymore after GB left with BEF and most importantly the fact how GB bombed the shit out of the remaining fleet in maroco.
Not fair fight indeed. But the US and Britain wanted to avoid a fight, the fire from the French shores scrambled the USN fleet. What happened next is history.
Had i been, the French leader at the time I would have given French commanders in the Magiont line permission to hold out as long as they could up to their discretion would have prepared defenses to defend Paris and begun preperations to evacuate to north Africa to continue the fight there no armistice with the Germans hopefully will boost French morale and encourage the French military as a whole to continue the fight even when metropalitan France had been overrun
The JEAN BART would have been sunk outright if she was FULLY OPERATIONAL and underway .U.S GUNNERY ,FIRE CONTROL ,RADAR,ARMOR and SEAMAN SHIP was immeasurably SUPPERIOR to the JEAN BART...fact ..from an IRISH MAN
My father fought on the Mass. in the Pacific. His battle station was in the elevator compartment passing up powder bags to the top middle 16 in. gun turret. During the kamakazi raids the big 16 in. guns were not in action. My father told me that one night there were 26 Japanese kamakazi raids, he said that he rationalized that the whole ship would explode should a bomb or plane penetrate his compartment so he didn't worry and was calm during the raids. He told me that during one raid he fell asleep, the powder magazine was the one place that was air conditioned so he was very comfortable and relaxed. My dad turned 93 this past February of 2019. He remains my hero and I am very proud of his service on the Massachusetts.
matthew prentiss as a retired Marine with 8 years of combat between Iraq and Afghanistan.... I agree with you fully..... But the CNO and SECNAV think differently since it would cost a lot to maintain and equip with personnel...!! Fuck that.....get all battleships back into service..!!
@@MountaintravelerEddie unfortunately the iowa class needed a full overhaul to remain in service which would have been build new battleship money. Too much would need to be done, and dont forget the literal tons of asbestos everywhere in the ship. Then to pile on, they were still using ww2 stockpiles for the main guns. Which passed it's best by date 50 years ago. So $$ to re develop all that.
@@MountaintravelerEddie bad idea, those 16” guns are useless compared to modern day weapons like anti ship missiles. If the battleships were retrofitted to have modern tech, why even bother? Just build a new ship designed for the modern systems.
They FAILED to mention a "Very Important Detail" . . . from her BATTLE with the French Battleship, they found out something was "Wrong" with the 16 inch shells . . . of the 5 hits that exploded, another 6 DIDN'T . . . if you examine the pictures of the French ship, you can see where the shells that "didn't" explode, actually HIT the ships armored skin, ripping it open . . . what they discovered was, the "Threading" of the detenator on the base of the shell, were "Too Shallow", which was the reason they failed to explode, actually causing them to FALL OUT of the shell on impact . . . an later shells corrected this problem . . . just a "Detail", but frankly I think an IMPORTANT ONE !
Wow, really enjoyed that. I had no idea the Americans fleet did that. So heroic and proud. Plus I didn’t know the Americans had so many battleships in WW2 like the Nevada. That’s was so good I might have to watch it again thank you for sharing.
Pretty sure they don't want to show anything relating to Nazi Germany in order to remain PC... While history is important, they are Video Game company first and probably don't want a Marketing/PR nightmare who claim the history is "Anti-Semitic". There are a few Historical videos out there on those ships, though the computer animation would be pretty sweet if they did it...
Nonsense. They will do the videos on the Kriegsmarine ships. What PR nightmare? How can a hunk of steel be antisemitic? They managed to do soviet ships without promoting bolshevism and german tanks without gasing anyone. They just take their time in making the videos.
Sir Moke I don't know, maybe a bunch of Eastern European people (I suspect Polish, because history) will raise an elbow if German ship is covered, as with Japanese ship. ( Although they already covered Yamato, so who know?)
Mammoth Mk3 Im polish and i dont have anything aganst german ships and would love to see german pocked pocked battleship graf spee he got intersting history too
French battleship tries to bow tank 16" 45 cal. French battleship forgets bow tanking doesn't work in reality. French battleship sinks to the bottom of her berth.
The funny thing is, if Jean Bart was completed, she would have been detonated. She took multiple hits on several magazine throughout the ship, but because she didn't get all of her weapon yet, those magazine are empty. Therefore, the ship didn't became a huge firework.
@Dr Galactose Detonating the 6" magazine would not have destroyed the ship. Also, if the ship were completed, she would have actually been moving in a battle, and a much harder target to hit.
I am a 10 year U.S. Navy Veteran and i served on the USS.John Paul Jones and The USS. Ranger and the USS Kitty Hawk and My Great uncle went down on the USS Arizona World of Warships was long overdue and yes they should make a lot more documentaries on War Ships i love my country and if i could i would go back and do my time all over again with out question and im am proud to have been part of this history.
Mamie ... Portuguese for mom or mommy and like a good mother she took care of her crew. 35 combat engagements during WW2 in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of combat, Big Mamie never lost a crew member to combat injuries. She took some beatings too and still has the scars to prove it. Amazing ship.
In the early 2000's I was lucky is being aboard Big Mammie, and as a Canadian walking through the many passageways, I stumbled upon a vacant display case with the Canadian flag painted on it. This was the period when the museum ship was having work done on her, so part of the ship was covered by awnings.
I'm waiting for it too, but I guess since making a Naval Legend video from ship that still exist (or has a museum dedicated to it) is far more easier, I think that we still need to wait for a long time
My Father, Musician 2c served on USS Massachusetts also as a Gunner on a 40mm during GQ. I visited the ship in 1967 when I was stationed in Rhode Island Naval Base on a Destroyer. My ship DD842 was the sister ship to the USS Kennedy DD 850.
your great grandfather is a legend of the fore river shipyard. he marked rivet's he checked by writing kilroy was here. The ships were needed quickly so the rivets inside the ship that he had checked. were still marked with his drawing and phrase. it became legend of the men who served on it. Kilroy can still be seen at the USS Massachusetts, USS Salem, and USS Joseph P Kennedy. All 3 of these of these museum ships were built at this shipyard.
Having been to visit the Massachusetts, it's cool to see these ships being brought to new generations via this game. I've even seen some of the social media platforms for historic ships using game footage for their ships. It's a terrific way to hook younger generations into history. Kudos to the developers.
I recently heard from a VERY good history channel that "Bostonians of old would be ashamed of Boston today." Maybe they meant the city specifically; but I know, as a Boston boy, that the undercurrent of State Pride and a feeling of restlessness presides in Massachusetts. Nothing less would motivate the people of MA to preserve Big Mamie.
Hold on...calling me retarded because this ship would be Ideal at tier VII? come on now....the Scharnhorst is OP at tier VII and no one is complaining about it. So why not have a battleship with 406mm guns/16inchers at tier VII?
Gneisenau has 380mm gun, Scharnhorst 283mm, Nagato 410mm, Colorado 406mm...So Tell me where the 406mm gun of this battleship is OP? Colorado has the same gun. the only ship at this tier that has a bigger gun is the Nagato. I see this being a premium ship with a real good torpedo belt and of course 100AA rating and good concealment. so it wont be OP. Stick to playing World of tanks, kid.
The USS Massachusetts lost no men in combat which is astonishing to me seeing how much combat it underwent. I highly suggest checking out Battleship Cove and donating to the museum. They have done an extraordinary job at keeping up the various ships there but they are low on cash. I've slept on the ship many times as a scout and I can say each time it has been amazing
I mean you could add lots to that list, Kaga, Shoukaku, Hiryu, Zuikaku, (maybe they should do a mega episode on the entire kido butai) any of the Kongo Class, Graf Spee, etc.

Watching videos of modern battleships everything is computerized. These are much more interesting. Crawling up into the guns nothing is made for comfort. It's like being inside your cars engine.
After seeing this 4 years later, yes, she is a premium now.
There is not only the battleship but also a destroyer, a submarine and a PT boat.
thumbs up for the new animations
Dear Wargaming. Can we have a CG animation movie or series of naval battles please.
I have been lucky enough to actually be on the uss Massachusetts, I have even slept on it thanks to a trip from my Boy Scout troop, it was quite amazing to see such a grand ship, filled with history, right below my feet and to be standing on the ship named for my state was quite patriotic, love you big mamey, I hope to visit again soon
so glad to see so many comments about over nights that was one of my greatest childhood memories as a scout with my now passed away father stay safe
One of my favorite memories as a Boy Scout
You neglected to mention that she never lost a crewman! Otherwise, great vid!
she has a memorial onboard to people whom were killed on pearl harbor i believe unless im mistaken?
I think it was the Alabama that did not lose a single crew member
So was the USS New Jersey (BB-62) during World War II...
NRH111 that is actually a room dedicated to all us servicemen from the state of Massachusetts who gave their lives during the Second World War. I’ve been on that ship before, and found the name of one of my ancestors.
Massachusetts didn't lose any crew member.
Well done.
And she's docked only 30 minutes from me.
for me it's a few hours away but i have slept over on it with my cub scout troop
MechanisedChaos it's docked like 20 minutes from me I'm in wareham
Aarrgh!! I'm a bilge Rat.
Lucky. I'm near Worcester, still an amazing experience to visit her though. Hope she comes to the game.
I'm near the "Iowa" and "Lane Victory" saw them last month.
i visited the Massachussets when i was 8 years old in 1973. family vacation from michigan to maine and i remember how wonderful it was. my dad was on a destroyer escort during korea and he explained a lot of things to me. i love remember that day. i want to go back...
My grandfather served on this ship as a marine AA gunner.
Kyle O'Brien did he shoot down any of those 18 planes?
I used to play on those when I was a kid 😁
8:30 Historic Torpedobeats!
Was gonna say the same thing! ahahhahaha
Epic Nerd didn’t know yuro was a ww2 commander lol
Francisco Lallana damn he must be a 69 point captain
Great video. I'm even more proud to be from Massachusetts. I'll be visiting this amazing battleship soon.
Thank you very much for time and effort in animating historical battles. thumbs up!!
Its crazy looking back at her all these years later learning more about her thank you guys very much.
she has actually never lost a single crew member during her time in war!
Great documentary. I enjoyed watching it. So nice that they preserved the ship. Greetings from Poland!
People from the state of Massachusetts are very prideful...and sincere. I should know, being a Massachusetts Man myself :D
Warmest greetings from Boston!
No need to apologize, that’s an amazing story!
I have visited this ship twice. would like to go back someday and spend the whole day walking around it.
That was awesome!! Thank you!! Love the USS Massachusetts. Visit her nearly every year.
I grew up 10 minutes from this ship. As a kid I never knew her story, now I'm in awe. She was a war wagon!
These CG animations, the visuals, the audio, the fluidity of the particle effects, I fucking love it!
I've been there, it's a very well preserved ship, plus there are several other naval vessels. If you plan to visit the ship, don't forget to visit the Lizzy Borden house too. It's really cool.
This is probably my favorite naval legends so far! Love those battle animations! I was blown away by them in the Yamato video, but these new ones are even better!
this is more info than i got on the tour
did they give you a tour? I go to the USS Texas twice a year but it's always self guided
David Jones well its mostly self guided but there is also tours you can sign up for
If you get lucky you can also catch some of the local staff who enjoy talking up their charges ... I had one really interesting afternoon after we completed a ceremony on the Mass running around with one of the guys working the ship as he enjoyed talking shop with active duty guys who came aboard and did a more interesting tour and tales than the public usually gets.
sadly USS Texas are beyond repair, salute to ship that's more than 100 years old.
Brian Lock They're coming up with a solution to dry dock it
Love how they say “small town of Fall River” yet it’s one of the biggest cities in the State
Andre Guerra I was thinking the same thing
Ik there’s like 80k people there 😂
I've been there several times as a kid and that ship is HUGE!
This is an excellent presentation. I especially like the CGI of the actual tactical details of the confrontation. Kudos.
This is an excellent video. ....great job....your group should be extremely proud of your work. A salute to you from a Cold War US Marine
Rahh Devil
I remember seeing this ship up close and person. It means a lot to some of my relatives.
I toured most of this ship a few years, was pretty damn cool. Amazing piece of engineering.
I live in Connecticut but passed over the bridge behind the ship on several occasions on my way to the cape, I'll have to actually stop at some point and get a better look.
Outstanding work on the animations for combat! Its great when we can see these battles play out instead of having to imagine it ourselves.
PLEASE PUT HER IN THE GAME !!!!!
I VISIT HER ALL TIME TIME!! I PLAY THE ALABAMA, BUT WOULD LOVE MY BATTLESHIP NEAR ME!!
PLEASE PUT HER IN THE GAME!!!
J Tetra she is in the game, but you gotta pay $55 for her
Waited this long since these series started, thanks WG for bringing my home state pride into light.
I love these naval legends videos, keep them coming Warships!!
Wow these new animations are badass. It's like watching a good war film. And the sound effects are epic.
Excellent video, you guys truly do history well.
Born and raised in Massachusetts, talk about an icon that makes us proud!

20 x 5 inch 38 caliber guns
60 x bofors 15x4 inch guns
35 x Orellikon cannons
Wow you did alot of research huh 😒😒😒😒
Lmao
She has a great battle history!!!! The first and last shoots of WW2 16'" gunfire came from her batteries....what a magnificent Battleship!!!
Who said war is fair? The ship could of stopped engines and only used one battery to make it fair. Only in video games, not in real life.
The JEAN BART would have been sunk outright if she was FULLY OPERATIONAL and underway .U.S GUNNERY ,FIRE CONTROL ,RADAR,ARMOR and SEAMAN SHIP was immeasurably SUPPERIOR to the JEAN BART...fact ..from an IRISH MAN
Amazing CGI and such an amazing ship! Hail the South Dakota class BB's!
this episode today is wonderfull with reconstruction history with animated
more please
Why do I get the feeling this ship would be more useful today then the Zumwalt class ships...
matthew prentiss as a retired Marine with 8 years of combat between Iraq and Afghanistan....
I agree with you fully.....
But the CNO and SECNAV think differently since it would cost a lot to maintain and equip with personnel...!! Fuck that.....get all battleships back into service..!!
I think their main excuse would be the budget
Anyone else love watching these just for the beautiful CG work they do
the cinematics and animation ia really great!!!! waiting for wargaming the movie
I've been there several times...it's amazing in person...makes you think about how important it was back then.
They FAILED to mention a "Very Important Detail" . . . from her BATTLE with the French Battleship, they found out something was "Wrong" with the 16 inch shells . . . of the 5 hits that exploded, another 6 DIDN'T . . . if you examine the pictures of the French ship, you can see where the shells that "didn't" explode, actually HIT the ships armored skin, ripping it open . . . what they discovered was, the "Threading" of the detenator on the base of the shell, were "Too Shallow", which was the reason they failed to explode, actually causing them to FALL OUT of the shell on impact . . . an later shells corrected this problem . . . just a "Detail", but frankly I think an IMPORTANT ONE !
my issue I have is why were they fighting the French cause I could have sworn they were allies
@@MyBahamas242 The "Free French", had NOT yet been formed !
@@MyBahamas242 it was the Vichy French. Basically just the French but not cool
@@fileoffish1403 Until THAT BATTLE, "Vichy", was still on the GERMAN SIDE !.
These programs never talk enough about the secondary battery. Those 5" guns were also quite powerful in battle.
Some of the finest military porn anywhere. I need the music for this, it’s so dynamic!
@Big Bill O'Reilly Yes What is the Music they used?
@Big Bill O'Reilly Wtf?
The soundtrack reminds me of "Hail Hydra!"
Wow, really enjoyed that. I had no idea the Americans fleet did that. So heroic and proud. Plus I didn’t know the Americans had so many battleships in WW2 like the Nevada. That’s was so good I might have to watch it again thank you for sharing.
what about German naval legends?? Scharnhirst, Bismarck and Tirpitz
Why would showing historic german ships be a PR nightmare?
Mammoth Mk3 Im polish and i dont have anything aganst german ships and would love to see german pocked pocked battleship graf spee he got intersting history too
Jesus christ! Wargaming, you are the BEST history channel. Absolutely phenomenal video!
French battleship tries to bow tank 16" 45 cal. French battleship forgets bow tanking doesn't work in reality. French battleship sinks to the bottom of her berth.
Brofisticus Jean Bart wasn't sunk tho.. The repair and construction was later finished after the war.
What do you call it when the bottom of your boat touches the earth instead of the water? polyticks.com/bbma/jeanbart.htm
The real lesson to take is that you should really finish building your Battleships before using them in duels.
I was there last month. love this museum.
Such a beautiful ship
This company teaches so much ....and it’s a gaming company 😐.
I LOVE IT
Way off on the 40mm mounts, she carried 18 Quads mounts by 1945, for 72 barrels !!
She carried less when she was first commissioned.
I've actually slept in the captain quarters when I was in Boy Scouts.
Rct same but not in captain quarters
You know what that's meaning, the BB 59 might come in the game Soon📣
Marco P I wish that went for the USS Alabama video and USS New Jersey one
Timber_Wulf the USS Alabama was added to the game. I bought her already.
usarmy160 so did I but what I'm saying now is that look how long we waited for an Alabama Premium
i heard the US will get another BB line, South Dakota might be one of them
Rafi Saadat Yup that is correct, when nobody knows but eventually it will be added.
In the early 2000's I was lucky is being aboard Big Mammie, and as a Canadian walking through the many passageways, I stumbled upon a vacant display case with the Canadian flag painted on it.
This was the period when the museum ship was having work done on her, so part of the ship was covered by awnings.
Naval Legend: Bismarck?
TheYobokenxe Yes!!!! And Tirpitz or other German Ships
I'm waiting for it too, but I guess since making a Naval Legend video from ship that still exist (or has a museum dedicated to it) is far more easier, I think that we still need to wait for a long time
TheYobokenxe YES
Tom-A062 Yeah You're right
So? Yamato didn't do that much in the war either but they did a video on her.
My great grandfather worked hard to build that ship! His name was James J Kilroy!
Pyro1456 Gaming. That’s so amazing, He’s an amazing person for helping to build this awesome ship.
Hey! "Kilroy was here", with a face peering over a wall, painted on bulkhead, that is part of what I remember about visiting BB-59! In 1970.
your great grandfather is a legend of the fore river shipyard. he marked rivet's he checked by writing kilroy was here.

I love this ship. I have a model of this ship and I wish I could buy it in game and I'd play it more than any other ship.
I recently heard from a VERY good history channel that "Bostonians of old would be ashamed of Boston today."
Maybe they meant the city specifically; but I know, as a Boston boy, that the undercurrent of State Pride and a feeling of restlessness presides in Massachusetts. Nothing less would motivate the people of MA to preserve Big Mamie.
Looks like this could be a Tier VII Premium Battleship that can go toe to toe with the Scharnhorst.
Alabama, her sis, is at tier 8, sooo
Scharnhorst isn't op either... it has to get close, and DDs can just torp it since it takes forever to turn
Nagato or Bismarck or Akagi
Thats an impossible choice, they all have their charms ^^
They are deserve to have a title Naval Legends
I mean you could add lots to that list, Kaga, Shoukaku, Hiryu, Zuikaku, (maybe they should do a mega episode on the entire kido butai) any of the Kongo Class, Graf Spee, etc.
what about shinano
dimitris vakas Shinano sunk when Steering Training what a shame
Father-in-law was a plank owner on the USS Indiana, one of the 4 South Dakota class BBs. Stayed on board until November 1944.
