Thanks for the Updates Sam. I've been an early adopter owner of a 2018 Ioniq that I bought new, and being a technology beta tester for many years I was aware and prepared for early tech pains. As such I've been more than satisfied, probably more so than those without the tech background and so different expectation levels. BTW: I have run it out 3 times, twice I got a Gater with a generator on the back to get me to a charger. Still no regrets as I simply pushed too far. Generally I run at ~13Kw/100Km so quite good especially for a 6 year old vehicle. Now that a lot of vehicles are getting to the 5+ year age, so are the batteries. I had expected that the technology would move exactly as it has and now range and safety have significantly have improved, but like a lot of others are now seeing that we will be left behind by the manufacturers as the batteries are not easily or cheaply replaceable, which is disappointing, as otherwise the vehicle itself is great. I certainly like the NIO model where a quick swap could fix this whole issue and I had assumed that all the vendors would follow this route at some time. A replacement battery right now is more than the vehicle cost(literally), and so also will be impacting insurance as a little dint in the battery module is now a complete write off for the car. I really would have thought that taking care of the early adopters that were willing to help and prove the technology out would be better looked after, but it seems we will be abandoned, and left to fork out for brand new as my ageing lithium's become more and more apt to failure including dendrites and simple cell failure. Will just wait for the nice new 10K Chinese car to be available. I'd really like to see a episode on the upcoming problems for those long time owners that have done the EV thing, and when abandoned may themselves abandon the vendors. Having worked in the Technology Standards for many years it seems strange to me that every EV vendor must make a unique battery when standardisation could make car manufacturers car manufacturers focusing on the vehicles themselves and not battery science experts they are trying to become. I never knew GM or Ford or Nissan .... to be Oil field and/or petroleum product experts, except in its use. Why has the EV industry gone down this rabbit hole ?
Hyundai EV batteries have a minimum life expectancy of 300,000 to 330,000 miles and more. As such, they'll far outlast the life of the vehicle itself. So don't believe all of the disinformation out there!
I'm on the fence on a 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL. I think I'm going to wait for the 2025. I hope I don't end up regretting waiting with the incentives. I'm not blown away with it's looks, but I can learn to like nearly anything for the right price.
Hyundai already has OTA software updates for the Ioniq 6 and EV9 so it will happen for the new Ioniq 5. They've always had OTA for just the infotainment but the I6 and EV9 have OTA for the drive firmware as well.

I think the upgrades are good. I'm getting an impreasion the updated ioniq 5 has smoother lines. I like that less. I think the frist gen ioniq 5 impressed me a lot with its bolder lines, much more esthetically pleasing. Not sure if the observations are true though. I think most are happy with the rear wiper, although I notice many rear wipers are vwry small which leavea the surface area of the windows you can actually see through small too. I think in general the wiper needs a technological upgrade in general, even at Tesla. Would be nice to see a wiper where we also don't need to use wiper fluid any more. Wiper fluid is also expensive and a waste. The second most complained issue I believe is the tegular failure of the 12V battery. It is a pity there is no news on that. More Hyundai models also have 12V battery issues still. A bigger spoiler to me likely means the tear window visibility will be less and you will be more dependent on the rear camera. Munro did a teardown where we saw the middle console used an astronomical amount of parts to assemble. Would be great to see a new teardown and if the ioniq 5 has less parts. Tesla range is vastly exaggerated. I have an Ioniq 5 and it is great on road trips - my charging stops typically take 15-20 minutes. I can get from LA to SF in 6.5 hours (my fastest time was 6.25 hours).
In Canada, if your Ioniq 5 battery gets damaged by a road hazard, the replacement cost for the battery is $60,000 causing insurance companies to write off the car for even minor damage. m.ua-cam.com/video/EEXieo06ta8/v-deo.html
Too many trash ICE cars on the market, too many trash EV cars on the market, we don't need any trash cars of any kind. Let Ford & friends stop EV production. Fewer trash EVs that way.

Tesla really should roll those features out to all their cars
@@martinb8013 I don't know if it's true, but I heard it's Ellon Musk himself decided to not implement V2L in all his car saying people will not use it. Only Cybertruck have it. But yes, I love this function for all power outage I have in my region, very useful and I don't need to bring generator and noise outside.
They need to reduce the cost of battery replacement. In Canada, to replace a battery is $62,000.00 labour in, tax in. It’s the same cost as purchasing a new car. That’s ridiculous. I cancelled my purchase.
Yes, get the price in line or protect the battery better.
Most of us already know that they are disposable vehicles. Imagine what it’s worth after 8 years of depreciation and a new battery needed. 🧐🪦
@@melissasmess27738 years from now who knows what battery will be in use. Lithium ion use is fading as they move to LiFePo and now sodium ion is starting , what other flavors will happen. We use electricity to run our lights not kerosene anymore.
I learned my lesson about Hyundai and Kias just from riding with my Uber and Lyft drivers! New ones are great but 2 or older year ones fall apart and sound like crap inside! No thanks!!
@@melissasmess2773ALL vehicles are disposable.
They’re not investments.
10 year warranty and lower expenses?
I’ll take it
The last 5 seconds said it all. When’s the Tesla Model Y Juniper update coming (that everyone is waiting for). Elon needs to get his act together and release the Juniper ASAP. And not push it out to some unknown release date.
Great car, great updates, just too $$
Hello Sam!
How about the icuu? Do they solve the icuu failures?
That is why i give up buying this car. Icuu is a problem for the whole platform. Ioniq5 and 6 and kia ev6.
I own it, personally I never got the ICCU trouble, but I done the recall they done for trouble. ua-cam.com/video/Altp7Ns73sc/v-deo.html Some got this trouble after the recall. Question, way more less? Will it be another recall? Time will tell. This said, since it's under warranty and now they have parts in stock, than now normally not a long time fix with what I heard. Personally I don't fear about it, but I'm curious to know if most is fixed for the long run. I bet they will fix it since they still keep the same equipment for those new models.
Still no fog lights! 🙄😖😡🤬
its a Ioniq 5 2025 not 2024 :)
Doesn't sell in Europe at all.....
Bullsh*t, it’s a great seller in Europe, there was a waitlist list of 6 months on the original release in 2021 and has been a steady seller in Europe since then

The range is up approx 30km from 458 to 485km not even 10%.
Ioniq5 is a good car, but the Y is still my benchmark.
I'd like to see the odd front tooth gap and butt crack removed, I don't understand why they're there, looks unecessary.
New batteries, same disappointment.
New batteries, big changes... but still not worth the hype
Musk is blowing up Tesla and twitter with his political tweets. He doesn't understand boycotts. The best product doesn't always win. My wife ordered a Hyundai ioniq 5 because of Elon ! If Musk bails out Trump , it is game over for Tesla and Twitter. What a bafoon !😂

High-un-Day. Maybe. I don’t know either. Don’t worry about it. :-)
현대 Hyeon (hyun) dae(day). Two syllables
Hyundai ran ads in north america WAY back with a catchy jingle "Hyundai rhymes with Sunday."
now the battery alone costs 100k
This could be my next car in late 2024. Since I would never support the emotionally unstable bully who leads another company, Tesla will never ever be an option. Hyundai is my best option unless the local dealership keeps adding mark-ups to the sticker price.
I think you are confusing energy density and size
Energy density is the amount of energy per volume. so if what he saying is correct, the battery isn’t physically larger but it has more kilowatt hours
Sam confused? Situation normal.
@chrisnewman7281 and petrol is the highest 😊
IF, and I don't know, but IF the battery pack is the same mass as the old one but has a higher capacity then density has gone up. If the pack itself is just larger then it's just another Viking f*ckup.
If the battery has more kWh you would colloquially call it “bigger” don’t be petty
Bah
Nah, model 3 will still be my choice over this inefficient car and I despise Elon.
It would surprise me a lot if it cost much less at any other make
This guy says the same thing 20 different ways to pad his videos, idk how you people watch this.
It was an ugly car! It is an ugly car! And it seems to remain an ugly car for the foreseeable future!
Too many trash ICE cars on the market, too many trash EV cars on the market, we don't need any trash cars of any kind. Let Ford & friends stop EV production. Fewer trash EVs that way.
Boring car brand. Buy the Polestar instead! ✔️
What a waste of resources! Just another attempt to keep up with the EV trend.
Sorry they didn’t change the lights, I hate those stupid pixel lights, they just ruin the look of the car and make it look cheap which it isn’t.
That’s literally the theme of the Ioniq 5, a pixel motif and retro styling elements with modern lounging features. Why would they shift mid-generation?
Nothing wrong with the pixel lights they are very popular
Just seems like a desperate attempt to stay relevant.
Hyundai is not a premium brand although it's pricing reflects otherwise, the proof is in it's resale value, non-existent.
Can't they get it right the first time?
New batteries, same disappointment.
