It was announced pretty much as soon as Sponge on the Run came out, so we already knew it existed before it was leaked.

I disliked it because of how bad the human characters are, how shallow SpongeBob was and how much wastes potential Sandy and especially her family was
I mean, when even 10-12 year old fanfics did much better job writing Sandy and her family than a high budget movie you gotta feel nobody really cared to put an effort into it.

From spongebob tickling feet, to smelling literal SHIT, to the horribly unsettling animation that makes heropants looks like chowder, to the BORING villains.

To be fair, Mickey Mouse at least starred in some masterpieces past his 25th birthday. Can’t exactly say the same about SpongeBob based on this movie.

I've always thought that a Sandy movie would have a backstory of her beginning with showing us the start of her life in Texas - how she became the squirrel she is
And at the last part where she becomes a marine biologist, the movie would end to her meeting SpongeBob

I’ll give credit where credit is due, they did explain how Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward were breathing air as they apparently altered their genes to make them breath air and be indestructible so kids wouldn’t kill them.

Then again they were able to do that before all of this during time they made fun of land creatures which sandy dared them to make the trip to surface and they were able to breathe air.
Also krabs is a crab he can breath air and water too so him dying from lack of water isn't true Although he can easily dry out because his species is a crimson red crab.
They dont need to make a explanation for mr karbs but others yes even if it poorly but we got to remind ourselves the show never consistent
A UA-cam critic who reviewed this film said that making marine biologists the villain of the film is an insult to Stephen Hillenburg since he is a marine biologist. Not sure if I would say that myself but it's such an interesting point
Right? Like a greedy company would’ve made more sense if the villain’s main goal was to sell toys/genetically-altered pet clones. But how she’ll know about the residents of Bikini Bottom in the first place is anyone’s guess.

The movie should've been a prequel I personally feel, like HOW Sandy ended up at the bottom of the ocean and why she wanted to study marine biology.

Yeah. Honestly with sponge in the run. With the whole kamp koral stuff it just feel like "well i see where we going now of the shiw and movies".
But while their are a few scenes thst felt ehh, not too shabby.
Sponge Out of Water is severely underrated and, honestly I think it's even better than the first movie primarily by the fact all the main cast got to shine even if SpongeBob and Plankton had the main focus.

7:14 fun fact, in the film's Hebrew dub, sandy had two actresses: one for speaking and one for singing. Sandy's Hebrew speaking voice in the film was provided by naama uzen (Sandy's main Hebrew voice actress ever since the beginning of the series who also likely sang some of her songs in the series in episodes like the Texas and rodeo songs) while her Hebrew singing voice in the film was done by talya Barkey (who was this and SpongeBob on the run's dubbing director and also voiced karen, gary and the film's villainess su nami).

@@amayac2602 Yeah I know, and it may seem like they're just making it for the sake of money (which I think they are and don't give two shits about what people think), but the movie may end up being good. Don't judge a toy by its box. After all, this is 2024 still, and the movie hasn't even kind of finished development yet, so we'll have to wait and see. Although, I really do think they should stop after the 5th movie and if they wanna do more content, do TV shows and shorts and other things besides movies. As for this movie, it could have been salvaged in many ways during it's development cycle, but as it stands, this is the movie we got. I never saw it, but I'm taking people's word for it (which generally discouraged me from watching it in the first place), and, I'm still wondering if MrEnter's gonna make an Animated Atrocity on it.
@@williambragg6171 the iron giant was an epic kids movie as it didn’t treat the audience as beneath itself or treat them as inferior. They tackled morality, broken households, stepdad stepping up, a monster of a gov official, and the concept of life and death and how we can deal with that inevitable fate. And choosing who you are vs being what others tell you that you are. All this in a “kids” film that made many grown adults cry. It’s compelling and above all else, a great film and a work of art that has purpose and meaning. Not some mindless cash grabbing lowest common denominator of current trends. A lot of modern kids films are being dumbed down and are getting more and more cookie cutter in their ever more basic plots.
Shame: Sandy finally gets her big break, her origin is finally answered ... and they F@#$ it up.
This was the movie for the 25 ANNIVERSARY OF ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR CARTOONS IN THE WORLD?? This movie made me feel two things: Uncomfortable and cringed out 😔
I thought the movie was really obnoxious and at times a little creepy. Not just with the nightmare fuel CGI, but seeing SpongeBob tickle people's feet underwater and sniff a pile of crap, made me wonder if this film had ulterior motives. It reminded me of the ugly side of Nickelodeon. Whereas most good Nickelodeon movies and specials will be packed with weird and hilarious imagery, bad Nickelodeon movies will be designed to pander to the youngest demographic while simultaneously getting away with a lot of creepy imagery.
Netflix is a marketing black hole, like the Epic Games Store. Never even heard that this movie existed until now.
Animation UA-cam talked about this a ton already. But yeah, that tracks with Netflix.
The only thing I could've call "marketing" about Sandy Cheeks Movie is UA-camrs talking that an ENTIRE movie leaked.

The current era of Spongebob media just feels like the writers don't know what people actually like about Spongebob at all anymore. They just see it as a kid show that has to be loud and busy at all times, with poop jokes, shouting, random faces, and they blended that with the worst element of Nickelodeon. Their live action cartoon movies. This movie felt like a literal fusion of the worst aspects of Modern Spongebob and the worst of their Fairly Odd Parents live action TV-movies.
Well, if the show gets renewed for a 15th season (which it probably is going to be), that MAY OR MAY not be a second redemption arc for the show (like a modern day Season 9 almost).

I'm a native Texan. Sandy is a stereotype, but she's a stereotype that Texans love. There are only a couple of nitpicks, like the way she pronounced the word "pecan". She said "Pee-kawn" when real Texans say "Puh-kawn". And she always uses the word "Y'all", even when addressing a singular person, but those are the only gripes. We fell in love with Sandy, from the get go. Her character was awesome, and we always wanted to root for her. But they did her dirty. I wanted to see her in a movie that deserves her. But the age of the franchise is showing. Paramount/Nickelodeon is putting out terrible spinoffs, with bare bones budgets, and no quality control. I know SpongeBob has a lot of throw away gags, but there IS cannon lore, to this show. You can't change concrete elements, to launch your horiible, "SpongeBob Babies" spinoff. The first episode established how SpongeBob and Sandy met. SpongeBob came out of it's dark ages, only to get better, but then launch a bunch of repugnant spinoffs.
This is not only the WORST SpobeBob movie, but ALSO one of the worst movies you could find on Netflix, AND one of the worst things to FEATURE SpongeBob. As great as the voice actors are doing, that is completely BURIED under the mountain of horrid writing, a lack of plot, weak animation, characters that contribute LESS than they do in a normal SpongeBob episode, and the worst COMEDY from the franchise yet.
As much as we love SpongeBob, I would not recommend this to ANYBODY. In fact, all the OTHER SpongeBob movies can give you so much more than this. I'd even go as far as to say that you get more entertainment out of a normal 11-minute or even 22-minute episode than this whole movie.
I give this movie a 1.5/5
Let hope Plankton’s Movie can still redeem Itself and the franchisee.
I was one of thr few to see the leaked movie when ithappend last month.
Honestly, 3rd best movie to me.
All i will say is story was interesting and kept me watchin, villian was great, and for netflix release next year, not bad of 3d.
But thats just my opinion, and even then it was just a finished still need worked on copy of the movie

I have not seen Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie yet, and I was not inspired to for several reasons; the backlash the film received, and the inappropriate-looking way Sandy was holding SpongeBob in the poster. When I decided to see movies on Netflix, I chose to see Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (2023) and The Little Rascals (1994), and I also plan to see Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) on that platform. Also, the earlier SpongeBob movies are better, with many saying the first one was the best.

Krabs, Squidward and Patrick were placed in a machine that made them able to survive out of the water. That is why they were outside Bikini Bottom in the lab.

The main reason why I didn't like this movie is because of the villain, especially the uncanny head effect! I agree Sandy deserves a better movie, but I really enjoyed the scene with the rattlesnakes!

That's because Paw Patrol's excuse is that their budget is specifically for tv episodes, while the budget in their movies are nesseary for a movie. They put in lots of detail on the fur and hair of the characters

We should have known this movie was terrible when Nickelodeon decided to put it on Netflix instead of actual movie theaters. Also, we all can say that the animation studio, Sinking Ship, TOTALLY lived up to their name. 😂
I honestly agree with the CGI it looks off on some characters honestly they should've used the animation company that animated the PAW Patrol movies because I like PAW Patrol I grew up with it but when I first went into the movie I expected it to be another kids movie but I was wrong the animation CGI looks great the action and adventure the paw patrol movies had were something the show didn't do and there was even a deleted scene from the movie called Chase's nightmare where no joke it shows Chase dying but i honestly think they could've done what the paw patrol movies did and make fun of the merch they have which is what they seemed to have tried with this SpongeBob movie but failed badly

Talking to one of my friends who taught at the grade school level during the mid-2000s, a lot of girls watched Spongebob and thought the experimental stuff Sandy did looked fun, so it kind of led to a bump in girls' interest in STEM. When the show began, you didn't really have a positive female role model who was a scientist in cartoons.
This movie was a HOT MESS, I just hope the Plankton movie coming next year is better.
None of the live action actors are up and coming Nickelodeon actors, they've all been in big budget shows for years, the girl was great in the One Piece live action show, the guy has played comic relief characters in the Series of Unfortunate Events show and Stranger Things, and Wanda Sykes is a legendary comedian.
Their weird performances are 100% due to direction, their skills have already been proven multiple times.
This movie is some clear-cut proof that Nickelodeon has become so drunk on *_SpongeBob_* that they've completely run out of ideas for the show.
Here are a few things that would have made the movie better.
- Give the audience a break from the craziness and have calm scenes. (E.g. Spongebob and Sandy have a nice conversation, "hinting at romance")
- Fix plot holes
- Make a Roger Rabbit plot twist where the villain is actually a sea creature from Bikini Bottom. (Making her motives darker)
- Give Sandy more development on her backstory.
- Remove stupid scenes like horsepoo and foot tickling scene.
These are just my thoughts,but let me know for any other suggestions.
I think beside from having a more serious tone and getting rid of garbage humor it would've been great to see Sandy's dilemma whether she should return home or stay in Bikini Bottom.
Like, we could've gotten her tough relationship with family, SpongeBob's difficult interactions with her parents and later on herself and it could even touch upon challenging their friendship.
And yeah, even though SpongeBob and Sandy's relationship was scrapped and SpongeBob isn't allowed to fall I love it would've been a nice addition to have some sort of "romantic" awkward moments between these two. It wouldn't have been as hype as Truth or Square wedding scene, but considering people still ship SpongeBob and Sandy every now and then they definitely would make Paramount some extra cash.
That and maybe SpongeBob gets a side plot of standing up for himself. Maybe at the start he’s being walked all over by everyone in bikini bottom because he’s too nice and for it to come full circle when he stands up for Sandy against her family and maybe the sea creature from bikini bottom in question was actually mr krabs because he wanted to make more money and SpongeBob calls him out and quits his job. Then maybe Mr krabs redeems himself by saving everyone and maybe him and SpongeBob make up
i wish the movie focused on sandy's backstory and how she met spongebob like in season 1
Yeah i started diving into the whole "Kids Movies Are Fine Being Dumb and Stupid", then I watched Legends of Metru Nui again, and began identifying with Vakama's lack of self worth and doubting himself based on expectations.
Remember, this was a movie from Bionicle, a toy series with a movie length advertisement for kids.
At the very least, I expected there to be a scene showing the origins of Sandy Cheeks, and how and why she decided to move to Bikini Bottom, we might also have the chance to see the chimpanzees from Chimps Ahoy. And then we witness her struggles as a land critter adapting to her new underwater home, along with the Bikini Bottomites learning to accept Sandy. But nope, even I was disappointed in that regard, along with the usual reasons why the Sandy Cheeks movie is a major disappointing mess.
For me I'm just frustrated with the whole live action CGI hybrid I think it would be nice for them to go back to like just an animated SpongeBob film that would be nice that's not CG
I love the original SpongeBob movie, but i wanted to walk out of the second (but couldnt because of my kids), and i NEVER walk out of a movie i have paid for, so i dosnt see the third movie. It should’ve been about Sandy growing up with her family, what inspired her in marine life, and at the ending is when she goes to Bikini Bottom for the first time gets attacked by that clam, and meets her little yellow sponge

I couldn't even watch the second half. Only good thing was that there was a picture of an arrow looper roller coaster in the movie, and they filmed at a real water park.
I at least liked Sandy's family. I found the story ironic because of the state of the franchise.
I will also add that Galveston is actually more of a beach town than a tourist trap.
I personally enjoyed the film, as well as my mother and grandma, but I couldn't help but feel at least some of the people behind the scenes had a condescending view of kids.
Looks like getting a studio named Sinking Ship Entertainment became a self fulfilling prophecy for the movie. 😏
My personal problem with the movie was how they portrayed Texas especially Galveston the movie felt like that Sandy and SpongeBob were in Arizona with all the deserts and cactuses everywhere . As someone who actually lives in Texas, It didn’t feel like they were actually in texas yet alone, Galveston I’ve been to Galveston too many times to count and it’s like beachy city area it felt like the movie was made by people who have never been to Texas let alone Galveston mostly because of the stereotypical portray of Texas
That’s true. Honestly I think they studied the wrong state for creating Texas in the film. I’m from Arizona myself and clearly if they had said that they were in Phoenix, Arizona or anywhere else in Arizona instead of Texas in the film it would have been perfect.
Honestly, I feel like if Nickelodeon removed SpongeBob entirely from being rescued from Sandy, the movie would be completely the same, spongebobs kinda just there to remind kids “this is a SpongeBob movie kids, better not forget” and also to be a comedian or a clown, except he’s horrid at being one
I've watched the movie (this summer) and... it's not that much horrible as lots would say (mid at best), but rather it needs far more improvement before it could be released to the public. So, for me at least, I'm fine of what they put here for the most part, but I'd always go back to the old ones, especially the original 2004 film and Sponge Out of Water. To me, there is only one SpongeBob Movie and that’s the 2004 movie. It still holds up 20 years later with its great story and humor. The others have their moments but they are just whatever.
Sinking ship Entertainment sounds like something straight out of the Spongebob show. But boy did it ever live up to its name, it was like Nickelodeon knew that it was bad and put it on Netflex and told them to bury it.
If that's the case for the latter, I wouldn't blame them.
I was hoping you were going to make a video about this movie. I felt confused while watching it and struggled a lot with the desire to just stop it. There's a TV channel called Duck TV which is aimed at babies and if you watch more than 1 minutes of it as an adult, you feel like your brain slowly gets into a coma. Well, I could say the same about most parts of this movie, especially in the end when the Robo-lady's head was weirdly dancing on the screen. After the credits started rolling in, I questioned myself what the hell have I just watched.
I'll still rewatch this movie anyday before I ever watch "Sponge on the Run" again.

I am not going to lie. This movie does some things correctly, like Sandy family's being a cirus act (even though it's very cliche at this point) and it tries to best to lean into what sandy knows best : Science! If this movie was part of the main canon, l wouldn't mind. If Nickelodeon REALLY wants to do this again, give Sandy or any other characters we don't know much about, give them a origin movie!

I hate the attitude that "the necessary colours and sounds" are good enough for young children. These are future adults, don't feed them slop.
